CI1 (PAL) – 53"76 / 10"43 (both NBT)

No videos yet, as told on Discord the 5-lap was absolutely unexpected since it came around 10mns after starting a session, still while warming up and trying to set a good 54" ghost to fight – I guess I now need to record myself when I switch the SNES on lol. The flap has a proper video but I'm unhappy with the fact I won 0"04 and zero rank there (there are 41 and 42 just above me) so I'm gonna try to get 41 at least before I show something. Hopefully I'll beat the 5-lap too with a live video.

Been playing some non-NBT this week, while waiting to be not-lazy and modify this pad.

MC1: 11"98 Opener -- 11"70 flap (#3 - GOD nonNBT). Both had a bad last corner that maybe cost the WR.

RR nonNBT: 1'25"39 1'25"22 / 16"90

Going for USA record on both of these. I think I can do at least a 16"85 flap, and maybe a 1'24"8x 5lap.

CI2 - 12.18 I'll have the video up soon, and it was recorded live finally. Shocked The lap was going nowhere until the miraculous ending, still surprised honestly.  Somehow hopped the wall and rode right beside it without crashing, leaving us with one of the better endings, if not the best.

Thanks!

Right Side in Summer

Hi all,

It was simply too warm to play SMK the past days, but I still wanted to get some PRs in nonetheless. So after it cooled down a little in the evening (still like 30 C though) I decided to direct two fans at myself and gave it a shot. I'm very slowly warming (yeh...lol) to the right side strat on CI2, after initially liking it and then a bit later starting to hate the BS speedlosses. The 5-lap is a small PR improvement despite the fact that this is 5/5 right (and my old PR obviously was not). The final half of this new race was very safe though, especially the last corners of lap 4 and 5. I can't do the opener thing that ScouB does, it's a kind of magic to me as my openers are consistently 0"25 slower than his.
Also GAS told us 12"5x flap would be free, but I think he lied. Wasn't that easy. Lake exit was still a bit sub par in my new flap though.

Anyhow:

PAL
CI2 NBT 1'04"63 (-0"12) - 12"59 (-0"04)

Splits:
L1 13"31
L2 12"73
L3 12"84
L4 12"87
L5 12"88

Improved my oldest PR (from 2006!)

Hi all!

Got one more PR just before going to sleep last night. It was a way overdue one on BC2 5-lap, where my previous 1'41"27 PR was standing tall (or still) since 2006!
Another very small PR cut, but it gets me top 3, so we take those I guess.

PAL
BC2 1'41"15 (-0"12)

Splits:
L1 20"43
L2 20"26
L3 20"16
L4 20"04
L5 20"26

The opener is usually two tenths better or so. 2/4 middle laps the inside thwomp was down. Instead of going for the risky inside cut anyway, I went under the 2nd thwomp instead. Not the optimal choice, but I wasn't going for WR or anything yet.

Video: https://youtu.be/bKByPL3AM9A

Currently I'm at 36/40 podia on both PAL and NTSC (so 72/80 overall). Because a lot of those are by a tiny margin and performed recently I expect to have to replay some of them before I have completed all 80. Very likely to happen on CI2 with the new strat for example. The ones I'm missing on PAL now are MC2 5-lap, VL1 5-lap and KB2 double. Out of those only KB2 flap is 'easy'.

Cheers,
KVD

How long do you plan on using Peach for time trialing? You can only go so high in the ranks with Peach. I think you should try Bowser or at least Mario on some of the tracks, especially wide-open ones like MC1, GV1, or KB1. Unless you're specifically aiming to have the strongest Peach-only timeset in the SMK charts, it's time for you to give heavier drivers a try.

P.S. This page has my best Yoshi times (Yoshi handles identically to Peach), although this is for PAL I have included the standards for the times, perhaps this could give you an idea of what you could shoot for with Peach, but notice that I have no standards above Veteran with Yoshi (though I did not use NBT, but you may not be ready to learn NBT yet).

Hey, Harvey Kartel, thank you for your advice. I actually do not have any sort of goals at the moment. We can say I am just playing for fun at the moment. The first day I played this game I tried every character and Toad was very comfy to drive, Mario was faster and Bowser was a lot faster but hard to control. Peach was also hard to control but since it is my favorite character on MK64... I decided to try Peach to learn the tracks. But yeah, sadly in this game Peach is slower, I should just accept it and try faster characters. But I am not ready to accept it, maybe in the near future.

Two quick NTSC PRs just to have a fullset of 80 "single digit" ranked PRs again:

CI1 – 9"84 NBT

MC3 – 16"53 NBT

The MC3 one was my first completed lap with that strat in NTSC, lol.

It's far too easy to forget what it's like to be a kid. But one secret to happiness is to be able to pick out links to our childhood in the mundanities of adult life. That's why I love Mario Kart. Whether I'm imagining wading through frosting in Sweet Sweet Canyon to take a bite of that giant donut, or picturing myself, shrunken down, making my way through Waluigi's pinball machine, there's something rejuvenating about the game that provides a nice reminiscence of the halcyon days gone by.
