Hi all!

Actually this track has a bad rep for being boring and stuff in multiplayer, but it's quite alright in Time Trials. Except from the fact it does a terrific job at torturing your hands by the end of lap 4 and 5. That's just us trying to squeeze in boosts everywhere while the track twists and turns though. Finished this 5-lap early in my second session, surprisingly quick PR. I had good splits for better, but something tells me a 1'31 will be very hard here indeed. As for the race, I missed the FB in lap 2, but drove my heart out the rest of the lap to keep fighting the ghost. Lap 4 had a little slowdown, but otherwise it was a good race. Shout-outs to 18"3x final lap with hands cramping up.  Tongue

PAL
MC4 NBT 1'32"39 (-0"36)

Splits:
L1 18"60
L2 18"43
L3 18"41
L4 18"58
L5 18"37

Vid: https://youtu.be/Q2oEk4HcQJU
Best opener is now 18"46 (which I believe is a new opener WR), best middle 18"22.

Cheers,
KVD

PAL NBT
KB1: 9"35 https://youtu.be/T7T8PvnznBs
VL1: 51"36 https://youtu.be/to6uTCJ06J4
DP3: 14"93 https://youtu.be/q4Gc_Y5T7sc

I started the week with a session on DP3 flap, as my old PR was a middle lap from my 5lap PR. My first finished clean lap gave me a direct cut to 14"93, and after looking at the chart I decided to leave it at that and revel in my cheap gains.

My next TT PR wasn't until earlier today, when I spent about an hour on KB1 flap with only two laps finished under 9"50: first a 9"47, and later a 9"35 that improved my old 9"42 (which was also a middle lap, although not from my 5lap PR). I'm mildly annoyed that I landed "01 behind Banjo, but I'd rather not force myself to play any more KB1 flap in the immediate future.

Despite the frustration of KB1 flap, I still felt like playing some TT, so I moved on to an even worse track: VL1. I had done a few fruitless short-ish sessions prior to today looking for the 5lap, but things finally went well enough that I managed to improve my 52"09 PR to 51"72 with a bad opener. Somehow I felt compelled to keep playing, and further improved my PR to 51"68, 51"62, and finally a satisfactory 51"36 that edges out Takashi by "02, hah!

Thanks,
Lafungo.

GV1: 1'10"36 / 13"87

The week was packed with all kinds of stuff so I was happy to play again tonight. I noticed on my way om that my GV1 record was low. So it was settled. GV1 was the course to play. I dare to say that the amount of people I surpassed with these new records, is less than the amount of blocks that fell into the abyss. Taking tight corners on this track is not the easiest thing but it did pay of. For now I am fairly happy with this score. Let's see if we can better our other scores as well soon.

Thank you Cheesy

MC4 mid-week progress report

Hello all,

Mid week progress report on my MC4 activity, since I have now hit WRs. First off I tied Chris' WR with a 1'32"35. Strangely that was only a 3/5 FB race (I don't really "count" other FBs than the one before 2nd corner, as that's the one that really makes or breaks a lap). I clutched the hell out of the last 2 corners in that race, after having missed the final FB.

Shortly after that I finished a more relaxed 1'32"25 race, with 5/5 FB. But not without having finished a 2nd 1'32"35 with a complete choke in final lap before (18"6x). That race could have gone low 1'32, maybe even 1'31. I think I'll target that at another time, too many targets requiring my "immediate" attention.

PAL
MC4 NBT 1'32"25* (-0"14)

Splits:
L1 18"62
L2 18"41
L3 18"45
L4 18"36
L5 18"41

Videos:
1'32"25: https://youtu.be/Wmaqvs_e9Pk
1'32"35: https://youtu.be/MS_ImJljZtg

Next target is the flap. Might be hard, we'll see.

Cheers,

KVD

^ If you take the right hairpin tight enough then you'll always miss the moles to the inside. Problem solved  Smiley

Had a close call in my 1'21"51 (NBT) run on PAL. Went wide, passed over the mole holes, but luckily there wasn't one out at the time. You can see this in the video during the third lap-- a few tenths are lost in that spot, and the rest of the race is spent going for broke since I really didn't have anything left to lose. (There is one other mole hole you can see me driving over in all the other laps, but I don't think any moles actually come out of that one-- at least I never saw any come out in that video)

Thanks again to Antistar & FFVIMan for giving me the opportunity to play PAL down here in Mississippi.

My new flap was achieved in lap one and it felt gr8 achieving as it was such a clean flap and I couldn't get close to scoring it again.

Thanks!

@Harvey Kartel, thanks 4 the advice about evading the molesSmiley I figured out the same solution too. Only problem 4 me is I don't have sufficient control over Bowser consistently speaking and frequently fail your advice even though it's good and makes sense. 4 me I need 2 brake 2 try to hug the corner tightly and NOT visit those moles, they're awful!!! Thanks again 4 the adviceSmiley

Even I (a top 50 player) can't get the DP3 hairpin consistent on NTSC or PAL, as is evident in my PAL 5lap video. There is so little room for error here because if you hit grass anywhere along your drifting arc it messes up your line and often causes you to oversteer. On PAL you can drift sharper, but on NTSC you can boost out of the hairpin sooner, so it kinda evens out.

And I also still fear the MC3 hairpin, especially on NTSC where I bombed it in the TT one-tries in Monroe. On PAL it's so much more manageable, though weaker NBTs (for me) do offset that advantage a bit. Still, I think I would average faster one-try times there on PAL (despite the speed difference), just because of the huge time loss if I bungle that hairpin.

You do not need to brake on either of these hairpins, nor anywhere else in SMK for that matter. Even when I was new to SMK time trialing I never braked, if I needed to slow down quickly I just briefly killed the gas (which I still do on the VLs, to maintain control).

@Harvey Kartel plus question 4 Sami Cetin at bottom of message.

Thanks 4 the advice about hairpins and not needing 2 brake.

Sometimes I stop accellerating myself instead of braking, sometimes only.

DIdn't know that killing gas maintained control sounds similar 2 A-Tech compared 2 only Mini-Turboing without A-Tech in MKDD!! Thanks 4 the adviceSmiley I am more comfortable braking than ceasing 2 accellerate at the moment but will see if I can change my habit or not in the future.

@Sami Cetin do u prefer I don't chat in the Time Submission page and ONLY use it 2 submit times? If it makes it easier 4 u 2 do times updating, I'll only use this page 2 submit PRs. If this is the case, sorry 2 have used these pages 4 chatting.

Been wanting to improve that particular flap for quite some time. I was always a bit irritated when I had the 5 lap WR, the flap sat just outside of the top ten.
Hopefully I can take it lower over the next week.

It's far too easy to forget what it's like to be a kid. But one secret to happiness is to be able to pick out links to our childhood in the mundanities of adult life. That's why I love Mario Kart. Whether I'm imagining wading through frosting in Sweet Sweet Canyon to take a bite of that giant donut, or picturing myself, shrunken down, making my way through Waluigi's pinball machine, there's something rejuvenating about the game that provides a nice reminiscence of the halcyon days gone by.

Looking to improve both of these a great deal. Splits on 5lap were: 11"85/11"63/11"67/11"59/12"47. It was a 5/5 PJ run with a choked wide PJ lap 5.

Later on in the session, I hit a pace of 11"78 - 11"50, crash. Then afterward, I hit a 11"88 - 11"45 - crash (lap was better paced than lap 2, very likely flap PR had I completed it).

Best opener (as of now) is 11"73, best middle 11"45.

I missed the final FB, so a 18"4x closer despite that is pretty darn good. It's the 3rd week in a row I improved this 5-lap. Last few sessions I was actually going for a new flap PR/WR, but as you can see I ended up improving the 5-lap 'by accident' instead. The flap is not bulging at all, eventhough there is quite some potential left. It's just an extremely hard one to get right. Hopefully next week!
