For me, two reasons. First, the Time Trial records on my American cartridge (the one I used for PRs up until 2013) aren't my times anymore, since the 2019 ASC attendees challenged themselves to beat all 40 of my PRs that I had saved to that cartridge. I don't want to erase them, since one of them is by KVD, ranked #2 at the time, and still ranks #3. But I don't want to get their times mixed up with mine. Therefore, I now use a separate cartridge on which all of the records were driven by me. This happens to be a Japanese one, and I have a lot of fun playing on Japanese cartridges (speedruns of non-Kart games are often faster in Japanese since the text takes less time to display)
The other reason to use a Japanese cartridge is that when you watch my videos and see Japanese text, you know you are watching an NTSC video. Currently all of my PAL videos are black and white (since that's how PAL pictures display on US TV sets, if they can display at all), but having the text in Japanese makes viewers 100% certain that the time they're watching is NTSC, that way Sami will never accidentally put one of my NTSC PRs on the PAL charts (assuming he watches my videos).
P.S. Got one PR tonight:
GV1- 11"88
I'll take a video if I can improve it. I think another couple of hundredths can come off of this.
EDIT: 11"84
Made the top 40 with this and achieved a win on Crispy. Gonna take the video now but it will not be available until this afternoon (sorry, my SD adapter isn't here yet)
And I still haven't worked as hard to get this lap as I have to
unsuccessfully break the 12"3 barrier on PAL.
