Yes, and it was near midnight at this point, not completely dark but dark enough. More rain, hail, sleet, thunder, and all sorts of natural hazards, and youl find out more what happens in Part 41. Excellent write up Barber!

The holiday that had everything!  PART FOURTY ONE!!!!

With Matt's glasses now another part of the vast mountain landscape, along with my torch, it seemed the easy thing to do at that moment in time would be to throw in the towel. Just to pack it all in and return to the comfort and warmth of the gaming domain. Matt, however was determined to soldier on. He insisted his vision would be good enough without the glasses in order for him to continue. All credit to him for that, but it must have made life pretty difficult. As we got higher and higher life was getting more and more tricky. It was getting a lot steeper and with the high volume of rainfall, the ground was slippery and hazardous. As Tom commented earlier, he had asked Drew if there was a path all the way to the top. You know like a route that we could easily follow. Drew informed us there was. I should really stop listening to Drew's claptrap sometimes... WinkHe also informed us as we got higher and higher that it would only take another 15 mins or so to reach the summit. Yeah right....try another 45 mins! Legs were weary, spirits were down. We had lost a torch and glasses, my trainers had been destroyed by the elements and fatigue was starting to creep in. Yet remarkably, spirits in the camp were still high. I was laughing and joking around with Tom about Eric. Once again the poor guy had to put up with an endless stream of corny aussie jokes and accent rip offs. He had no means of escaping from the vernal shitstorm we were providing either!  Grin I also pointed out that if there was one guy i could pick to be up that mountain with us at that precise moment it would be Eric. Rocks, knocks and sheer drops were nothing for the dingo warrior. He was leading the way without complaint. Almost acting as Drew's second in command. Any slight complaint from me and Eric would immediatly call me a pansy or something like that. Eric is a legend of epic proportions and his fan club continues to grow by the day......

We were really high up now and turning my head to look down for a second, i could not believe how much ground we had covered. It was an amazing view up there and despite being soaked through, the rain had calmed down and we were fairly well sheltered too. The grass, although wet was kind of covered in an almost frost like layer, which made it fairly easy to tred on. Drew was now picking up speed and starting to run up the mountain! He could see some light! We had nearly made it!  Cheesy Slowly, but surely i could see hope. I could see safety, i could see the top! One by one we all made our way to the final resting place. A place to revel in the magnitude of our fine achievements and a place for Drew to have a victory piss by a nearby tree!!  Shocked Grin I could not believe my eyes as the "mountain yak" decided to release his pent up aggression in the form of a piss shower. The poor tree i thought....i bet it did not see that coming anytime soon!  Grin I did a small victory dance myself to the Johnny cash tune and others celebrated in their own ways. I decided to yell "Drago" in a loud voice - something i have always vowed to do from a mountain ever since the glorious Rocky 4. Anything we shouted echoed around us.

We were in the middle of a big valley and loving every second. I think someone decided to ring either Ali or Arbinder at this point. We all shouted "Why you begging it" as loud as possible down the phone. They were baffled, almost as much as we were when a girl answered the phone!!  Huh At first i thought it was Marit, it soon became clear that Neil, Ali and Arbinder had found some female friends on their way back to the venue! We went mad!!! Typical. Eric in particular went crazy!!  Grin "They have found some Sheila's" he asked. When we replied yes, he wanted to get down that mountain as quick as possible! "We can't miss out on the ladies" he said. He made a very valid point. We were all gutted about missing out on potentially landing a couple of Norwegian hotties on our final night. Sad I think Drew then decided to send a funny message to Karel. Quite possibly to prove we actually just scaled the beast. Drew had us all line up and using our hands we spelt out Karel's name from the mountain top. The image was then sent to him via his phone! Awesome! Karel was quite impressed by this i think.....

After the jokes, the glory and the resting, it was time to move on. Worth pointing out at this point that Drew had spent lots of time reasurring us. At the start of the climb, during it and at the top. He assured us that climbing up was "the difficult part" and that going back down again would be a piece of cake. He also said that there was a nice path we could follow all the way back down from the top. He insisted that we could literally follow it and it would take us from top to bottom in a leasurly and easy fashion. Why did i ever take Drew's word for anything?!?  Roll Eyes Once again there was no path, it was two times as hard as climbing up and there were sheer drops everywhere!!  Shocked Shocked We came to realise this and the dangers ahead, within about five minutes of our descent. Seriously this was dangerous stuff. I was concerned and we needed to kip our wits about us. We paired up again with our usal tag team partner. Drew and Eric lead, Sami and Matt followed and myself and Tom were last to go down. Barber and the Gaff drew the short straw on this one for sure. We had to save each other on more than one occasion.....

Part 42 coming soon!!!!

The holiday that had everything!  PART FOURTY TWO!!!!

The route down was tricky, treacherous and covered with danger from every side. It was wet, slippy and extremely difficult to actually walk down. I spent nearly all the time almost sliding down. I had to use my hands and arse to actually keep myself from falling to a nasty death. On the plus side, we still had not fallen prey to any moose's or bears that were after a quick feeding frenzy. The rain had stopped which was one advantage i suppose. As i mentioned earlier, both myself and Tom were in a very dodgy position. Whilst Drew, Eric, Matt and Sami moved ahead, we were left a little bit behind fearing for our safety. You see, every branch, every piece of stone, rock or tree, or grass that was being used to aid our descent, by the time it reached me and Tom had already been virtually pulled out of the ground!!! In simple terms because four guys had already used it to grip and hold, it became loose and some pieces of wood etc were no longer safe to cling to. We did not know this at first however. I remember slipping quite badly, but fortunately managed to grab a near by rock instead of falling down. I think between me and Tom we must have slipped or lost our footing about twenty times on the way down. Seriously, we were quite lucky not to break a bone or two. It was fortunate that we were there for each other to break each others fall. I certainly didn't have this in mind when i signed up for Norway. I had visioned great gaming, great company and loads of hot woman. Not a sausage fest descending down a mountain to a possible grisly end.... Shocked Shocked

As we got further down it was quite nerve racking to see how many sheer drops there were. Quite simply, one mistake or slip and we would have been finished. Game over. No more SMK, no more Pro Evo, no more kebabs, no more ladies waiting below for Eric and no more Johnny cash...Speaking of the ladies Eric had seemed to go into another gear altogether. Clearly aroused by the potential opportunities that some ladies would present, he was having no trouble at all making short work of the climb down. Tom was finding it difficult for a number of reasons. The peril that we were in was obvious and our stamina was now fading rapidly. One or two times on the way down he actually got quite stressed for reasons that will remain between the two of us.... Lips Sealed After slipping and sliding our way down most of the mighty mountain at long last i could see an end to the great journey. From where we were i have to say the views, now were out of this world. We could see the football pitch, the games venue and lots of other great scenery. It was worth it just for that moment. The trees had cleared and it was awesome. Also worth mentioning at this point that it was around 2.00 in the morning now and had taken us around 3 hours top to bottom. A great achievement. We were not quite there yet though....After we had hurdled our last fence and reached the road at the bottom, i think everyone was giving themselves a major pat on the back. We had braved the elements and achieved something we will remember fondly for years to come. The Gaff was ecstatic at the triumph and had "a few words to say" to the group when we had returned to the venue.

The Gaff had requested a group huddle before we returned to the Marius mansion. It was hard on Arbinder and Ali who attempted to greet us and congratulate us outside. We had to ask them to kindly step aside for a second or two. It was a great moment and one that will live long in the memory. Six guys had worked as a team and done something great together. The Gaff's speech was imense and we all took it in turns to have our say. My main point was how remarkable for us all to have done the climb and returned with no injuries or problems. A few scratches and battle scars were all we had to show for our efforts. I thanked Drew for his leadership skills and my fellow "brothers" one by one. It was a highlight of the trip and we were delighted. We may have been soaked, clothes may have been destroyed, but it was all worth it in the end.

Now we returned to the venue to be greated by two local ladies. Both quite young, both quite friendly and one of the two possessed a collosal pair of hooters. Now these jugs, breasts, titties were truly something to behold and it was hard to not look at them. Seriously though the girls knew Marius i think, and had bumped into Neil, Ali and Arbinder on their way back. They were both very chatty and we shared stories and jokes of our amazing Norway experience. One guy who seemed a bit overwhelmed by it all was poor Neil. He stood about two yards away from the big chested lady and did not take his eyes of her assets for about half an hour. No lie. The poor guy seemed rather attracted.  Cheesy Huh After a fun time chatting, we said our goodbyes and it was time to sleep for the final time. As the main hall was now empty, we all had to sleep in either the bag room or the entrance way. I picked the bag room option. The room of the legendary Gaff and Eric. We were also joined by Sami and Arbinder if i recall. It was cramped, but yet fun and amusing. Until Arbinder launched a pot noodle aiming for Neil, who was sticking his head through the little hatch. It missed and hit me instead!!! Angry Man was i pissed. I had to sleep with a pillow and clothes stinking of Pot noodle powder!! Drew had plans to wind Neil up again..... Wink

The holiday that had everything!  PART FOURTY THREE!!!! It's all over.   Huh

Just before Neil, Matt and co settled down in the entrance way, Drew decided to hide Neil's leather jacket. I thought this was quite harsh and un callled for, but Drew was adamant that it had to be done. Whether he deserved it or not is up for debate. Meanwhile in the bag room, Eric proceeded to sleep in what looked to be the most uncomfortable way possible. Maybe he had taken tips from Drew. He used two chairs as his bed and squeezed in between them. With one chair facing almost in my face he proceeded to break wind in my direction. Most unpleasant, but being the cheeky chappy that he is, he can get away with most things...The bag room now seemed more like a lion's den than some comfortable sleeping quarters. The Gaff loved the comfort of a snore or two, Arbinder loved throwing things and Eric was just Eric. In the end i survived and we awoke to say our goodbyes...

It would be fair to say that we were not quite the pinnacle of physical fitness and health on that last morning. With tired muscles and a lot of built up fatigue, it was hard making the effort to pack and be fit once more. We all quickly scanned the parimeter for any bits we may have missed. Neil, on the other hand was getting more and more irate with regard to his missing leather jacket. Now where could it be?!? I managed to lose a PS2 pad in the packing process or maybe it was stolen? Harold may have it in his room as a trophy of his mental victory over me. Neil managed to locate his jacket after a frantic search. After all his panic and stress it only happened to be on the floor in the bag room! How strange.....Quite shocking that he didnt spot it earlier. Once the packing had been done, it was time. Time to go and face the real world again. Before everyone had stepped outside, i wanted to take one last look around the inside building. I stepped inside and slowly turned around the room in a sad, thinking mode. I could still see Florent and Pierre in the far corner battling on SMK, i could still see Vince and MJ strumming on Guitar Hero, i could still see Neil on the sofa and Lindsay teaching Tom sign language by the tables. I could see Steven eating a yoghurt and Karel practicing on Pro Evo. I also could hear Harold's voice and see Drew lying under the table. Eric drinking a beer and Sami "feeling no way" I could still see Marius running the show and battling it out on Third Strike. It was surreal and strange to see this once vibrant, lively and noisy room reduced to a big empty space. As i turned and closed the door, someone had been watching me closely the whole time. Just maybe you will all see the footage someday. You never know... Wink

With everybody else outside with suitcases in tow, i finally vacated the building. I had a big announcement to make as i left. "Ladies and Gentleman i give you the winner of Big Brother Norway 2007 John Barber" I had purposely left last so i could pretend i never got voted out! I found it funny at least, but i don't think anyone else did.... Grin In turn we thanked Marit, Marius and our good friend the driver. They had been very kind and looked after us so well. All their hard work was much appreciated, but just so they know again - Thanks a lot guy's we had an awesome time!!!! Smiley Cheesy We got into the various vehicles and were driven to the bus stop for our trip to the airport. Sadly Marius's car did not transform as i thought it might. I was banking on the Norwegian version of Optimus Prime to carry us safely to our final destination.  Tongue We boarded the bus and bid Norway a fond farewell. It was a pleasant drive and i enjoyed looking at the breathtaking scenery for one last time. So much had happened, so much fun had been had and now we were all shattered!!

Having boarded the flight direct back to England, Drew and Eric would then have a lot further to go. Eric would have to catch another flight all the way back to Australia that day! Drew was not scheduled to return to America until Sunday. He had no where to go and would have to find hostels. I said he could stay with me for three nights!  Roll Eyes Man were those nights crazy.....pics and vids to follow at some point. I nearly beat him once on battlemode too! Just once...After an entertaining flight, due mainly to Eric finding himself trapped behind an air hostess for about ten mins as she was serving food, and he loved it, we arrived back home. Eric, the legend who i won't forget in a hurry, after some airport troubles departed. He was one of the stars of the holiday. We parted, we got in a cab home, it was the end of one of the best holidays i have ever had.

For those even contemplating Holland next year, i say go for it! Norway' 07 was absolutely amazing and so much fun. The gaming, the people, the football, the go-karting, the bowling, the mountains, the way everyone got on well with everyone. Marius was great and made it all possible. If i had to pick the two main characters and legends of the trip i would have to say Eric and Harold. They were constant sources of entertainment, banter and all round fun. Florent and Drew would be close runner ups. Florent took things to a whole new gaming level in Norway and Karel, once again showed his true talents. My final words are saved for the Gaff. The legendary 10th wonder of the world. As he would say, will Holland 08 be good? "Bruv" It's a "No brainer"

der der der der der der der daaaaaaaa That ring of fire!  Cheesy

Amen bro!

Many thanks for the absolutely awesome write-ups John, you have managed to write a complete book (really capturing the atmosphere of each event that took place) during these past weeks!  Shocked
That the trip left so much stuff to write about is testimony to how awesome it really was, so I quote with you in agreement when you say:

yes bruv, smashed it, was a awesome write up which encapsulated the whole trip.

There are so many more things that happened while Barber wasn't around..

Few other things which were left out but i'll recap in a single line - feel free to elaborate if you were involved;
1) Multiple WR's being made on Micromachines, trust me when you saw how much patience was put into that it was astounding.
2) Neil getting into the communal showers and not knowing if it was acceptable to look at everyone elses willy.
3) Eric losing his passport on the way back into the UK and having to anxiously wait to see if he was going to become a refugee!
4) Erics momentous snoring which lasted continually through the night.
5) The pub

Great write up!  Captured the atmosphere of the mountain brilliantly... if "feeling no way" ever gets into a dictionary it should have a picture of us lot on top of that mountain!
For the record I'd taken my glasses off already as with the ridiculous rain I couldn't see a thing with them on anyway.  Luckily I could still see the ground ok for keeping my footing but well annoyed I couldn't get the best of the views towards the end!  Still well worth it though just for the experience of being there!
