I disagree, because:

a) you've got 5000+ characters. A URL is gonna be less than 100. 3 or 4 URLs is still < 10% of your content. When do you write 5000 character posts? No, it saves a lot more characters to trim posts and only quote what's relevant.
b) I hate big signatures, on all forums. I don't want to give you the opportunity to make them even bigger. Notice how my signature is one sentence? It makes it possible to chase up some things I've written with Google, since it's a unique phrase. No pictures, links or spam.
c) ignoring [] stuff would probably require messing around with the forum software, and it's safer not to touch or modify it.

or if you just raise the sig limit to 2000 characters, I'm sure no one would use that much space for stuff other than code.
