Ok, first of all I'm not a real huge fan of the band, but they have a few really good songs that I like.  They're ok.  That being said:

Now then, I think I can sum up my thought is three letters.  WTF?  Who in the crap and why thought Evanescence could possibly be anything that resembled anything at all like a Christian band?  Oh and not until one of the members cussed in a interview did they realize it?  It was cussing?  It wasn't the song about suicide?  Or the complete lack of Christian lyrics?  Or maybe the goth/emo image they portray to a degree?  It wasn't that the name of their album was "Fallen" and the dark cover-art or the mass popularity among the goth/emo crowd?

Wow.  I... I just don't see it man.  The only song they have that I could understand someone thinking was a Christian song if they didn't know anything about the band would be Bring Me To Life.  But that's only if you ignore the last minute of the song when the lyrics make it obvious they're not talking about God, but her ex-boyfriend, or at least that's the impressino I got.

And this controversy went as far as... a band member leaving because he was pulling them into too much of a Christian direction?  Ok, maybe this is a bad comparison, but am I to next expect My Chemical Romance's lead singer to get kicked out his band for writing too many Christian songs?

edit3: Dang.  That site has ALOT of stuff I didn't know, kinda changed the way I look at the band in a way.  I still think it's a stretch to call them a Christian band, and a really really big stretch at that, but if you only heard bring me to life and read that interview on there, then yeah, you'd swear they were a Christian band.

I am laughing at it.  XD  After finding this I called up my friend who is like the biggest freakin Evanescence fan in the world.  He agrees, very stupid and funny.

Alot of bands that would be christian bands purposely try to distance themselves from being labeled as such because people lump being a christian band in with sucking.  Which has some truth, the majority of christian bands sing cliche praise songs to distorted power chords and never do anything different at all.  But I don't think this is any less common in secular music...

I never said christians are stupid, I am a christian myself.  I said christian bands, meaning contemporary christian music.  Like stellar kart and kutless... and others.  Man I got an entire freakin kutless cd and I can't stand it.  That is by far the most unoriginal band I have ever heard.  I like Casting Crowns though, they pretty much do their own thing, sounds good, and the lyrics are original.  Mark Hall's a lyrical genius.  did i spell genius right?  I always spell that wrong...

*shrug* I guess on the surface you might could mistake tourniquet, but, dang man, she SCREAMS at the end of the song "I WANT TO DIE!"  Isn't it obvious?  I can't stand it when people just listen to music to hear noise and don't even really pay attention to what the crap it is they're listening to.

umm, squishy... "crap" is whatever each man defines it as. There is no universal good or bad thing.

I really like to listen to Evanescence. Amy Lee has a awesome voice. I like they way the music just fits with her great vocals.

I do think that them being releated to a christian band is crazy. They are more gothic.

The song "Tourniquet" I guess can be understood to mean different things. I myself do not see it as a suicide song. What if you were given only so long to live and the finally days had reached and lying in a bed in great pain thinking about what all had happened in your life. Kowing that you once went to church but had fallen from grace. Just wondering is your belief strong enough to be remember? I know that at the start of the song she says "I tried to kill my pain" but this can be taken has many different things. Think about it.      But you know all in all it is just music!

Anyway, not to start a huge debate here nor will i say anything else about this. i know that everyone has different views and that is COOL. That is what makes us who we are.

I think that many of the songs can be positive.

I am a bit strange but you know...so is everyone in there own way!

I think that's a cool interpretation.  I do believe a good song, like a good poem and a good book, means something different to everyone.  Perhaps it could be intended as suicide on the surface but as a parrallel to a deeper meaning.  She's obviously not suicidal, and yet she sang that song with such passion.

I had to go back to page 26 I think to find this damn topic. It is so funny that so many topics there were that seemed like they were just yesterday.

Anyway, I went to Sam Goody about 2 weeks ago and was looking for the new Evanescence CD which they did not have because I still am not sure if it is out yet  

So i bought one that was dated 2004 and man to my surprise it had live songs but also included a DVD with live concert and music video's. I never new that she played the piano.

It is a awsome DVD with not only the vid's and live footage but has alot of behind the scene action. Freaking kick Ass IMO.
