I probably spend the least amount of time on this mk game in the series.

The only time I spend doing TT's for this game is in class.  I got my professor lecturing about stuff I already know so it is time to play some mksc, so I sit in the back.  Grin

Hopefully we can get some more people to join and start competing more as the community grows.

i'm having a bit of a nightmare adjusting to the 150CC speed of the TT on the SNES tracks. Grrr.. mariocircuits are tough at these speeds.

^^^

I have spend little time with Super Mario Kart on the SNES, my main exposure to those tracks is on MKSC.

So how different do the tracks feel and look on MKSC as opposed to SMK?  Just curious about the differences, and whether it's worth it at some point to pick up a SNES console to play MK.

well TT on snes smk is 100cc, the TT on MKSC in general feels more like 150cc. Meaning that your driving the SNES tracks very fast which is tricky, the hairpins weren't really meant for 150cc speed.

It just means you have to adapt, the trick i've just learnt is to press R on a straight when i know i'm lined up coming to a TIGHT corner and then turn into it, instead of starting the slide on the turn. This cuts out the space you need to turn because you dont hop.

The other thing is its much easier to do new boost technique (NBT) on mksc so you should be making use of that more too.

I had noticed that there's some insane cornering necessary in the SNES tracks on MKSC, probably they feel insane because of the speed.

And, uhm, what's the new boosting technique?  Undecided

if you go to the smk part of the message board you can read a whole lot about nbt, but nbt on mksc is easier. Check any of Su or Hirano's vids and see how they magically boost across the grass and sand - thats pretty similar to NBT.

So is the NBT official allowed here in this site for MKSC?

MT'ing on the grass/sand/... is allowed.
Ticking against wall/tree/... is forbidden
Ticking means shrooming/taking a booster, releasing the accelerator and hit an object.
Since releasing accelerator is useful while you are shrooming (less slow down in  grass/sand/... ), you have to avoid any contact with any object while you shroom (it happens often to me and i restart the race).

Ok, so the NMT is allowed, as long as there's no ticking involved.  Got it.  Thanks.

I'm just about ready to put in my first set of scores.  Nobody needs to worry, I'll be near the bottom of the list!

Hey Guys,

I went out and bought a Game boy advanced and the MKSC game yesterday. Have only played two hours on it but I had some questions.

The person who had the game before me had only completed some of the 50cc level. Looked like he had a rank of star on some tracks and a rank of A on one. I guess you want a star rank for all 50cc, 100cc and 150cc tracks?

I also noticed that the tracks that the previous owner had not ran at all will not save my TT times. Is this normal?

Also, I have read that most players use Bowser or DK on this site. This is who I use on SMK. But i noticed that his speed only has 1 star out from it. Some of the smaller players have 3 to 4 stars out from there speed. Do you have to complete more tracks and cups on regular play for Bowser to be faster?

Some of these quesitons may be dumb but i am very new to this game and could use any help that you can provide.

I have been wanting to take a break from SMK for some time now. And now that I have the MKSC I  should with in a few days submit a full set of times to the MKSC site and start playing alot.

Sorry for being such a Noob here Cheesy

Thanks,

Dave

3 stars is the best rating for a grand prix.  You just need gold cups to unlock retro courses.

You can only save up to 10 of your own ghosts for the nitro courses and you cant save any ghosts for the retro courses.  If you are having problems playing a track or saving data in general that is probably not normal.

Bowser and Toad are probably the best.  The amount of stars on the speed indicator is not a true reflection of how fast you can do the course with that character.  You can not make the karts faster by unlocking stuff.  Depending on the course and your ability, Bowser or Toad might be the best kart for you to use.  When at top speed, Toad does not go any faster than Bowser.  Bowser has quicker acceleration than Toad while Toad can turn tighter than Bowser.

Thanks!

That sucks about the not saving. It will save my track time but for some reason it will not save my fast lap. And it is only on certain tracks.  Sad  Could be the AA batteries in the system getting weak but I have no clue.

I have notcied that i am not able to sit and play the game for very long. My neck starts to hurt and sometimes will get sick feeling. Maybe I am just not used to playing on a hand held.

Does the game boy advance have anything that will allow you to play the system on your TV? Maybe like a cord that attaches to the game boy and then to the back of the TV? That would be cool!

Plus, i have to get into some great lighting to be able to see the screen. Can't play half the time for the screen is to dark.  Sad

Anyway, I hope to be able to send in some times soon.

I would definitely recommend picking up a GBA micro or GBA SP+

These new versions of the GBA have much better screenage-- bright enough to play in sunlight!  You'll probably find that neck strain is diminished simply by having better screens, because you don't have to hold the unit at a particular angle to play.

And yep, you can also buy a GBA Player than runs through your Gamecube... it runs about $50.  Personally I prefer playing on handhelds but this is a definite option if you prefer to play on a TV.

Thanks!

When I bought the game Zelda "four swords" for the game cube it came with a cord to plug into the game cube. Would this be the cord that I could use for the GBA? Or is it another cord I will have to buy?

The cord you bought for Zelda cannot be used to play the GBA game on the Cube.  You need a special console hardware called the GB Player that sits under your cube.  The Player has a slot for your GBA games, and allows you to play GBA games on the TV to which your Cube is hooked up.  The Player is $50.  Most folks use the Cube controller to play the GBA games.  It may be possible to use the cord you described to allow you to use your gameboy handheld to control the game, I'm not sure, I have never tried that.

Basically, you are looking at:

$50 to purchase the Gameboy Player (allows you to play games on the TV); or
$70 to purchase the GBA SP+ (with the new brighter screens); or
$90 to purchase the GBA micro (with beautiful screens, and a sexy small design)

IMO all of these are worth the price of entry.  Personally, I really like handhelds, and generally prefer to play GBA games on the handhelds.  Wink

Get gold trophy in the cups.

Then get 100 coins in the cups.

That unlocks the retros!

I only finished unlocking everything last week...  Cheesy

Glad to be helpful!

I'll look forward to seeing your times posted.  I'm hoping to post for the first time sometime this weekend.  My times will suck though Grin

So how well does MKSC play on the Gameboy Player?  Does the Cube controller work well for the game?

I think the GB player is awesome. I had to get used to the GC controller but being able to see the game on the TV is well worth it. I have been playing SMK for these last few months and really used to that controller but the GC controller is not bad.

Here is a video of what the game looks like through the TV. This is my TT time for BC1. Not great but still getting used to the game.

Wow, that does look really good.  Gets rid of all the viewing and brightness issues on the old GBAs   Grin

I need to think about picking one of the players up in the near future.

Had one more thought about the best way to play MKSC, I imported a DSlite from Japan recently, and must say that the game looks PHENOMENAL on it.  The screens on the DSlite are absolutely and completely amazing-- so bright, so crisp, it can be played in sunlit situations, even better than the GBMicro.  Can't be too long until the DSlite hits North American.

I think I'll be submitting my first round of time tomorrow.  Then I'll probably play through the tracks again, this time as Bowser.  I was using Yoshi the first time through because I feel more comfortable with his steering, but it's definitely faster to use Bowser, I am finding.
