MC1 non ticking: my opinion on strat
11/18/05 at 03:15:36

I'm playing MC1 (more of the same Roll Eyes ) for the next non ticking chart.

I've played it for about 20 hours and my opinion is that the best strat (based on my driving style) is to use the shroom on the final turn (at the left of the finish line).
The big sand area should be traversed using an offroad MT and dont deserves a shroom.
When the charts will be out i'll provide a video (but i think the shroomspot it's clear enough).

Hi,

Interesting, i did get down to 48 seconds something but shrooming across big sand area, not the final turn. I didnt use any MTs, just hopping around..

My shroomspot solves the problem that the last turn is very long even if you stay very close to the sand and you cut the last part (after the finish line) with one MT.

About the off road MTs they are very useful here: in my PR (for now is secret Roll Eyes ) i used 2 off road MTs per lap (like in my first lap of the ticking race), except the last lap (non shroomer) in which i've used 4 off road MTs.
That is one MT every 2.5 seconds (average of the last lap)... sometihng like MKDD Tongue

Anyway dont expect a great time from me, the 5 laps are very hard to do properly and i've just missed the run of my life Undecided

A low 48 seconds without MTs is very fast.
The MT across the sand area saves about .25 per lap, i think

Do you mean what are my best splits?
Splits are a bit biased, because the shroomspot is just before the finish line (what you loose in the previous lap, you'll save in the next one and viceversa)...
My opinion is that 46"9x is possible.

But maybe the usual strat (adding some off road MT in the nonshroomers laps) is faster:  i'm slow, using the shroom in the sand area but i remember that some other people had very fast times.

Sub 47 means your strat including boosting will be quicker than the current strat sami is using. Can't wait for the vid.

I'm waiting on Alex to sort out some code and this weekend i'm going to be doing alot work on splits etc for standards.

Come online more TG, I'm like almost done. Only little things left (which may involve you/Mark to some extent). And then you're ready to roll.

Sorry Alex, i've had a mamouth time at work recently - can you list the info you need from me?

As far as i'm aware I need to:
1) Draw up the standards (which can wait?)
2) Do the intro speil for submitting times
3) Clarify what will be and not be allowed under the racing terms. (easy)

Anything else?

Do you not like the old Banner? I thought it wasn't that bad to be honestSmiley

I can get some help on the updating/inputting times. Thats sorted.

Just need to teach me how to do that quickly Smiley and then also how to update the mainpage but I'll look into that greymatter business when things calm down at work!

I found old times at MC1 without ticking. Smiley

I did 0'48"35 with some MTs. With my combined best I can down until 0'47"4x... Tongue

I didn't work without MTs but I think I can down until 0'48"4x, if you see my combined best :

L1 10"63 (not worked)
L2 10"28 (not worked at all)
L3 9"20
L4 9"20
L5 9"20

i think i'm underestimating the power of the MT because of the small screen!

Luca, that would be helpful.

I think I need to update the intro/submission spiel on the yahoo groups and be strict about it.

Alex.. can we keep the old banner for now?

(might get a xmas contest banner up and running in a few weeks)

I take it we're not using the automation from yahoo groups? and that we'll just manually add them using the pages I was looking at the other day - which looked very easy too use!! Smiley

you have a yahoogroup parser (the .html) and a database portal (the .php). you can try using the parser... paste a bunch of yahoogroup submissions in (select "expanded view" so you can see many at a time, and Ctrl+C the visible text for all the messages). I've not too clear on the nuances of people's track identifications so my preliminary extraction may be dodgy and miss things.

The updaters job is to enter the player's name and make sure that everything on the left (submission) correctly matches stuff on the right (extraction). If not, change the stuff on the right accordingly (or delete the time cell to ignore that particular entry). The colours should help determine if the correct time or track was identified on the left.

When you've gone through all submissions and overseen their correct extraction, generate a dump of formatted text with the calculate button. Paste all that text in the database portal "add times".
