CI1 lap barrier breached (7"92*)!  Cheesy
I just LOVE this strategy ScouB came up with (correct me if I'm wrong) a while ago...

That said, it's really a game of hit and miss when it comes to how strong your bounces are. In that sense it feels kinda comparable to MC2 LBs in TT in how it's very hard to predict how good they will be.

Have you tried to do it on CI1 NTSC in Time Trial just to see what happens? Best Lap +- 9"80? Obviously it'll go ranked for the T.T. Trick/Glitch/ShortCut category.
I remember seeing a video from a dude (I think he's Japanese) doing exactly the same strat but on MC2 NTSC in Time Trial and at the beginning of the first lap, here:

I remember it was not too bad, I guess the video is still on nicovideo.jp.

I never tried that @ CI1 in TT, same for MC2. I actually use that strat on MC2 to avoid red shells in MR and GP though.  Smiley Note, it rarely works.  Tongue

I tend not to bother with strategies that do not count towards the official rankings (CI1 SC, MC2 IB, etc.). With the exception of feather trick WRs in GP, as those are allowed for CDM and during Speedruns.

Why is it allowed and regarded as NBT on the GP site if it's not on the TT site? I feel there's some kind of paradox there.

GP site follows CDM rules more. Though I'm still a bit iffy on the feather line SCs being SC.

What is the difference between a "Trick" and a "Open" feather on RR?
I don't understand it on the GP Site  Roll Eyes

..I got a 1'11''95 with a feather finish today, which category is it?

Trick usually means using a feather at the start/finish line and having Lakitu pick you up and finish the lap for you. Open means to cut a huge portion of the track and have you cross the finish line on your own without the help of Lakitu.

Basically this TAS video exploits all of the tricks possible in SMK:

MC1- mushroom longboosts (OPEN)
DP1- lap skips by bumping into the wall (TRICK)
GV1- start/finish Lakitu lap skips (TRICK)
BC1- all of the feather shortcuts are considered OPEN besides the very last lap, that's considered TRICK
MC2- all of the mushroom longboosts are considered OPEN, but landing on the wall and skipping the laps are considered TRICKS

And so on. Essentially whenever you blatantly skip a lap, those are tricks. Cutting portions of tracks and crossing the finish line with skill will always be open.

I hope that makes it more clear for you!  Smiley

This is not entirely correct though. Those are indeed the rules for official tournaments such as SNESOT tournaments or CDM. However, as far as GP Records site is concerned, crossing the finishline with a feather while being in the air (and fall into lava/holes, after crossing the line) on tracks such as RR, BC, GV (and even KB) is considered as Tricks.
You need to land on the track first (or at least after the finishline) :

GV2 NTSC legit for GP records site:

GV2 PAL legit:

RR PAL legit :

RR NTSC legit :

GV3 NTSC legit :

GV3 PAL legit :

and so on ...

Ah, thanks Scoub for clearing that up! I suppose a more general rule is that "lap records and 5 lap records must always consist of your kart NEVER falling into lava or off the track in order to exploit finish line barriers."

Rainbow Road feather shortcuts, for example, need to always go from on-road to on-road in order for them to count towards your timesheet. I think that's pretty easy to understand.
