lol, I thought I was just in time for the pre-CDM update, and I discover there's none this year. Isn't that the first time this happens?

Hi, there was definitely not going be an update today as I am away. So I put the note up at the top of the 6th August update in advance, unless you didn't catch that one? But no worries itl all be sorted next week  Cool

lol nope I performed a PR on Sunday 12 and sent it to Yahoogroups around 5 or 6 PM that day. Anyway the correct WR date will be put down on the WRs history site and that's all that matters to me. Wink

Can somebody explain what's the deal with Takashi Ogasawara joining PAL? Has there been a mistake, or has he really been playing PAL? Something's fishy to me since his NTSC timesheet is so weak by comparison. Has he been living in Europe as of late?

Another Player's Page mystery (to me) is that there are several names in the women's rankings that I don't recognize, but have been part of the SMK Player's Page for years. I don't remember Elsa Kruger, Lina Wieland, or Rachel Dietrich being active back when their timesheet says they were; checking archived news suggests that at least one of them might have asked to have her name and country changed, possibly to protect her identity. I'm pretty sure I know who Merve Cengiz is/was based on a check of archived news, but none of the others.

Congratulations to Maia Hasso for her recent climb in the women's rankings, by the way. I was wondering if she was ever going to follow in her big sister's footsteps! She's a teenager by now, I believe, or at least very close to it? She's already passed Tanja Brüser, one-time women's champion, and made it look very easy. At the rate she's going, I predict she'll start beating my PAL times within the next year or so, just like Leyla did. And yes, I can even see her joining her sister in the top 50, and threatening Sophie's spot in the Women AF, if not in 2019 then certainly in 2020. I'm proud of her progress and I'm sure her Uncle Sami is as well!  Cool

Hi Nicholas,

Takashi has been a long term friend of the community and was training PAL for one year as he has the console to play PAL, having come to several CDMs before in the past since 2013 and is due to attend in 2019. His GP level is also equally as strong and he has had a former speed run World Record on NTSC 150cc which is his favourite mode, recently beaten by Scoub. Takashi pretty much one tried most of his previous NTSC timeset as he had less interest to compete there. However with the upcoming NTSC American Championships, he may compete in future (not 2019 though).

Yes, a few old players wanted identities changed due to personal reasons, nothing to worry.

Thanks regarding Maia. Have a good Christmas!

Oh yes, I seem to remember, Takashi is that Japanese 150cc GP champion, isn't he? I've heard from Karel that his 150cc GP skills are amazing. PAL Time Trials must seem like a snail's pace to Takashi. Once he got used to the slower speed, I'd imagine that his GP skills would carry over very, very well to TT. I had mentioned in the GP thread that 150cc GP is much harder to drive in than TT, due to the faster speed and wider turning angles (I was barely able to complete Rainbow Road because yes, it's that hard to control Bowser/DK Jr. at that speed). Anyone who can master that, holds all the keys to SMK.

Would still love to see what Takashi can do on NTSC. I'd be happy to give up that #41 spot in NTSC Time Trials AF to a player who deserves it far, far more.  Smiley

I see Scoub has overtaken Karel as ntsc#1. How many times has Karel lost a #1 spot now? Can't seem to see a past champions page like all the other karts have, would be nice to have this.

Hi David. You are correct, I can't remember off the top of my head as there isn't one and this would be very useful. I'll discuss this with Alex as soon as he's free after I have got the data. Please allow a bit of time. Thanks.

I browsed the last pages of this thread because I was pretty sure a past champs page had been asked for a couple times in the last few years, and I didn't find anything before… this:

Antistar wrote on 06/12/16 at 04:45:31:
Hey, I thought we had a "past champs" page on the SMK site but it seems that we don't. Would it be possible? It'd be cool.

I thought that had been suggested more than once in the three last years. Huh

Anyway, thanks for taking care of it someday, that'd be a great addition. Smiley

No problem, I already e-mailed Alex yesterday, but as he's been busy please allow a little time as I asked a few questions first. I know it is not something we will use every day but it is useful to be there to check once in a while, particularly now as there has been a title change recently.

I don't need to be... I was on the version I always preferred  Smiley  Grin  Cool

Interestingly there were a few NTSC players that reached #2 even but didn't quite make #1. Oliver was one of them.

Anyway, looking forward to it too.

There are similar statistics for PAL, if I'm correct we had MJ and Seb in this situation (at least).

Just think, I could have been NTSC champion if I had started taking up SMK time trialling back in 1997-98 rather than 2007-08! We hadn't discovered boosts or NBT back then, but it couldn't have been that hard to beat Travis (who is currently ranked #114) even then. I mean, he couldn't even sub 11" on KB1, VL1, or VL2 flap...

That said, his times on other less NBT-friendly courses, like BC3, GV3, and RR, definitely aren't bad for a currently-not-top 100 player, though, and these may have actually been formidable records before we all really learned how to play good SMK.

(Hey, am I the only one who sees the first name "Travis" and immediately pictures a certain long-haired country music star?)

Thanks for spotting that Guillaume, I have sent it through to Alex.

Also the Joe Bernier country I noticed shortly after the page went up, I already let Alex know on that one yesterday. Both will be sorted in the week hopefully.
