While talking about the block-breaking issue in TT on the French board, I noticed that this issue was covered in the rule section of the non-NBT site but not covered at all (neither for GVs nor for VLs) on the "Joining info" page of the Players' site. It might be useful to drop a few lines lines there, so that newcomers know about this rule when they join

Good question, the standards are as we know quite outdated, not just from the CI1 and pipe boost changes, but several tracks where we have noticably surpassed them by a fair amount. It appears that the skills of the players over the years far exceeded what we thought could be done. The same issue has happened on Mario Kart 64 (and maybe others but i haven't checked. The standards are a fun statistic as an extra targeting tool for players as they improve but that is the only problem. We did update them before years ago hoping that we picked realistic targets, but again the same has happened. It is understandable that we probably won't be able to improve the times at as sharp a rate in the next 5 - 10 years as we did the last except maybe for the pipe boost times etc in the short term, but at the same token we dont want to keep changing standards several times over. Il create a separate topic for this so we can brainstorm some ideas. I think it would be worth players who are involved actively in the other Mario Karts to seek advice from there too to get some ideas. We can leave things as they are or update them.

didn't know where else to post this, but i'm sorry for so many yahoo messages Sami, i thought i had erased some of them, i was editing messages, i think its because i didn't get rid of them for good, and i think that is why they ended up on yahoo still.
