I have to say I was quite shocked when I first read about the legendary 16 star being cheated. Myles videos were among the first speedruns I ever saw and if I remember correctly, it was one of the SC videos that made me find this site.

But you at least admitted it, and that was the right thing to do. Of course the cheating can't be undone and I, like many others, have lost a lot of respect for you. But not all of it. I don't believe you cheated in MK64. Not just because it would take a lot more effort to do for something like time trial, where there are no easy transition screens to splice, but also because of all that I read about you as a person and your history with this game.

I don't think you should feel obliged to remove all your times from this site. You cheated once, but that was in a different game and was hardly comparable to time trial. And don't forget: One cheated run can't change the effect that your videos had on speedrunning!

Well well, what do we have here.

I love when cheaters get caught  Smiley.

But what is happening here...this topic is complete BS. Myles cheated, wants to make a dramatic exit and everyone are begging him to stay....how we people work, it is amazing.

1. Myles got caught (he confessed nothing).
2. Evidence is there, all he can do is CONFIRM.
3. Life story + wannabe dramatic exit.
4. People saying at least he confessed (no he didn't, HE WAS CAUGHT), bagging him to stay.
5. Delaying to explain the situation.

This has all the elements of BS story.

I also want to believe this was a 1 time thing, that all his MK times are legit and it will not happen again. I can not deny Myles had a positive influence on many others me including. I can not deny he developed many WR strats on MK64 which is an amazing achievement, but this topic makes me believe there is something more.

Take 1 hour of your life and tell the complete truth (cover when, why, how, how many etc.). This is the way to do it and show some respect to the community. Then let people decide how they feel about it.

Giving pieces, then waiting to see what will happen, then a few more pieces, then waiting for people to react...this is a BS way.

I know Myles is a lovable character and everyone wants to believe it was a 1 time thing, but the fact is he cheated.

If this is a 1 time thing, tell what happened, get it out and (i believe) you will get a 2nd chance.

I want to believe Myles also but like I said before when he suddenly said that he should just be removed it seemed sketchy.  I think a lot of/all of his MK64 stuff is legit but it sounds like there is more that he is hiding and I think we deserve answers about it.  I would like to see him prove himself in person and not hide from this if he is legit.

I always believed its better to be honest than to lie. Yes people still get mad sometimes but better to admit something than to hide it and have someone find out. You also have to take into account Marius. He worked hard on these Mario records back in day so he probably was pretty down when Myles beat his record.

Not really. If it wasn't Myles it would have been someone else. Marius would've been sad eventually, right? I just looked it up and it seems that the record was by Jacob Cannon anyway, not Marius, so Marius was already being vigorously challenged. The current records seems to be mid 15s, a couple of minutes faster. Grinding for seconds on long speedruns is a losing contest in many games, SM64 perhaps being one of them, because there's a hundred teenagers with free time trying, and more and more streams/VODs/Youtubes teaching exactly what needs to be done. Back in the day there were few contenders, but it would be impressive for any of the old guard to get a record today.

I think it's a little odd that SDA hasn't updated in so long. The current records across N64, VirtualConsole and Emulator are all mid-15 to 16. I don't think I've watched them (or if I have, I've forgotten) but that seems like a substantial difference. Is the timing different and in reality they're close, or are they really two minutes faster and SDA simply hasn't got new submissions in a long while?

SDA is essentially all GDQ at this point.  (with good reason)  They really could use a massive site cleaning/overhaul as they've got best times for games from like 2004 in the 64 stuff.  none of that held up unless NOBODY cared.  I'd go with overhaul, it's that outdated but they probably don't care or it wouldn't have gotten to this point.  Nearly every game has their own communities and nobody really does single segment or w/e runs anymore.  It's RTA for online runs, and whatever the clock said for old games even tho it's off b/c **** that .

As a member of the old guard (who couldn't get any records back then either), there's too many talented kids with more time on their hands.  (twitch has brought quite a bunch into the-elite for instance) More talent + more knowledge = lol olds, like every competitive industry ever.

As far as I know, Jacob Cannon only held the 70 star record, not the 16 star record.

Actually the difference is bigger.  Myles' time would be 18:30 by current timing rules, so it's almost 3 minutes slower.  See this page for the leaderboard (Myles hasn't been removed yet).

It was a better confession than we got from Jorge (who still hasn't confessed even after being caught), but yeah, I agree that people are giving him too much credit.  The Hab trio confessed completely on their own without being caught, and I think that was part of the reason why they were given a 2nd chance.

The Hab trio confessed to cheating, and they actually did cheat, so there's nothing absurd about that (although it is uncommon).  I guess the only absurd thing is that they cheated in the first place.

I meant that people are giving Myles too much credit (because as Zoran said, by the time Myles said that he cheated, he didn't really have a choice).

Pretty much everyone on the 150cc speedrun competition believes him and accepts his "WRs" despite knowing his past, saying "it was a different game."

I thought he was done with SM64 forever, but apparently he's back and he's going for the WR.

It's because 16 Star is an obsoleted category. It's not any%, not 100% and not even any% with a clear restriction (70 star is simply "any% without skipping star doors"). They kept Myles run because it was popular, just like the category itself, which is still played a lot because of nostalgia and accessibility.

I don't think that's the reason why the SDA page hasn't been updated.  I think it's just because none of the SM64 runners care enough about SDA to submit their runs to SDA.

I guess the restriction is that you're not allowed to use BLJ to glitch through the 30-star door?  Yeah, it's kind of a weird restriction, but I wouldn't call it an obsolete category because a significant number of people still play it.

I like 16 Star too, but if you look at it objectively, it's arbitrary. I think there actually was a discussion about this on SDA some time ago, and if I remember correctly, it looked like a new run would not get published. Personally, I'd ignore all that and allow the category on the site anyway, but that's up to SDA to decide  Wink

In that context, it means "blowing out" (beat opponents convincingly).

Submitting the spliced 16 star run to SDA was the most epicly stupid action I've ever committed. I only pointed out that I don't know what alcohol tastes like, never smoked, never had sex, etc. to show how horrible and out of character this was. I had never done anything of this evil magnitude before and I never will again.

I did upload 63 consecutive single star WRs from May 2007 to May 2008 for Super Mario 64, as mentioned. They were all legit, not that I expect anyone to believe that. There were reasons that I lost confidence in the integrity of Super Mario 64 competition and ultimately gave up on it, but there's something else I really need to say first.

Once again, I'm going to make this as short and simple as I can. On February 16th 2007, I said this:

"Retiring from Mario Kart 64 is foolish, I've learned how that solves nothing. I will continue to play. My times should be removed from the kart site, but I'm sure they won't since I never cheated and that is the only basis for removal of times."

It was part of my post at the bottom of page 3 in this topic:

http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1170552958/50

Immediately after that post, I deleted my forum account and became Ex Member Myles. I don't know whether it was a dream, vision, or something that actually happened, but God did light up the sky and speak to me. Then, I became as large as the universe and hovered in blackness, seeing all of the stars. This took place in the AM hours of January 23rd 2003. Seems more like a dream/vision, doesn't it? That's fine. I'm willing to concede that after all these years.

Immediately after deleting my forum account, I looked myself in the mirror and said:

"These people do not have enough respect for you. Leave this place, become legendary, and cheat. Cheat in such a way that you become more and more legendary off of the false video. Then, return to this place and maybe someday you can realize your goal of having your times removed."

I did have the common sense to wait three months before beginning this wicked journey. I focused on college and finished the Spring 2007 semester in early May. I took a few days to pray and meditate, and finally decided it would be best to carry out the master plan. The youtube channel was created May 7th 2007. The first video was uploaded May 19th 2007. All of the competitive website videos (63 star WRs, Koopa/Slide WRs, etc.) were real, but finally the 16 star vid on May 11th 2008 was not. Then, I created the shadowofmyles account I am using now and returned to this forum days later. Just about everything has gone according to plan.

That was the only time God spoke to me, but since then I've had countless dreams/visions of myself flying through the sky and dominating the Earth like a super hero. I've even had a few dreams of myself flying out of the atmosphere into darkness. Beginning last year, I started to have dreams with evil creatures following me up into the sky. Just one week before caivs discovered the splices, I had a dream where I took flight over a field. A creature ascended toward me from the nearby forest. As the creature approached, I looked at it and said:

"Ah, the antelope of death. It's because I cheated in Super Mario 64. This will need to be addressed soon."

That brings us to the present time. I do have to admit, I wasn't expecting to get caught. I thought I would be making a confession soon. I guess you could say this was something that didn't go according to plan. I first learned of the allegations January 17th, studdered around with excuses, and said I needed to discuss this publicly. Last weekend, I still didn't have the words right. I finally have it all figured out now, so let's bring this to an end.

How many people believe all that stuff I just said, anyway? Probably no one. Ok, so I'm "crazy" and I cheated. Let's start removing the times, like, now. I graduated from college because I had to. I may go back and get a PhD because I might feel that I have to. I am working at the best company in my city because I have to work and it's the best way to do that. I'm single and have no kids, but I visit with my family. Sure, I love them, but you also feel a sense of obligation there. Otherwise, I am going to share these extreme experiences of mine and find out who believes and who doesn't. If I only have one friend out of 7 billion plus people, that's fine because I have heaven later on.

Cheating was still stupid and a sin at that. I was wrong to do it. In no way do I condone my action and I do not encourage anyone else to do the same. I felt bad joining this place October 4th 1998, but I did it anyway. I was suicidal the whole time I climbed the charts during the next few months. I could've been Martin McMullan. On May 31st 1999, I became a Christian and it saved me. I always wished I could've became a Christian first because I never would've had any desire to join this place.

I think enough damage has been done. I wish you all the best. I hope several players better than myself join this place and love competing. I'll play these games again, I might even upload videos again, but I will never compete with anyone else again. These are great games, but I wish I never would've competed in the first place. The decision is yours whether or not to remove the times. I hope that you do, but I'm not really in a situation to make requests.

God bless you all. I'm sorry for all of my deception. It won't happen again.
