Some other guy beat Seth with 2:44 by finding a way to skip a step. That's the nature of these multi-step any% records: someone always finds a step to skip after you've shown them all the steps.

I do think it is a big deal. We are owed an explanation by Myles if he wants us to consider his kart accomplishments legitimate.

Though I think it may be a storm in a teacup, considering Myles never passed it off as single segment to begin with.

I think it's pretty clear that he wanted us to think it was single segment.  Everyone else was doing single segment, so he had no reason to think it was ok to do something different without making it clear.  He uploaded his run as a single video file without mentioning anything about segments.

Also, I just found this quote by Myles:

http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1211253110/50
Quote:
Well, I lost two runs on the last Bowser throw. Those were two of the most frustrating experiences of my gaming career. I sat the controller down gently to keep from breaking it and breathed slowly until I calmed down enough to turn the TV and N64 off and walk away with some sanity regained. Then I waited a good week or so both times before trying again. Needed some time for the pain to subside, of course.

That sounds very much like a single segment run, if you ask me.

Oh let me rephrase then, SDA never passed it off as single segmented (if I recall it was listed in the segmented category).

But yeah if Myles tried to pass it off as single segment, he really has some explaining to do. Though a similar technique could not have been used for any of his MK64 Time Trial records, as the in-game timer display would have to be manipulated as well.

I am very surprised that the Myles controversy is still being talked after the past few weeks or whenever it started being a big issue to the SDA.

Why is that surprising? It's pretty glaring that he has not replied at all yet. Until then it stays a relevant topic of conversation, considering his 'legendary' (I don't think I'm exaggerating here) status in this community.

Other people like Fenner and Jorge are banned from MK64 because of cheating in other games (not sure if they were proven to have cheated at MK64 too) even though they have fast videos of MK64 times which appear legit.  We appear less legitimate if we don't also question Myles after what has happened here.

I agree with KVD that Myles' silence on the subject so far has spoken volumes.  It reminds me of when politicians try not to respond to scandals that they are accused of being involved in.  Usually, that means that they are guilty and don't want us to know just how deep the level of their wrongdoing is.  I would like to believe that Myles is legit but his silence makes it seem like there may be a lot that we don't know about and it bothers me the more that time passes.  People need to be making a bigger deal of this and if nothing else is said in a week I'll probably start a thread in the MK64 forum.

His mk64 times are probably legit because i dont think what he did in mario 64 would work for mk64. Only way he could cheat was tasing. I believe this was prob just a one time thing though.

How are we to believe that this is just a one-time thing?  Does anyone ever cheat once and then stop cheating after that?   That's not how cheaters operate.  If the only way he could cheat was TASing how are we sure that he didn't TAS?  Or how do we know that Jorge's times aren't legit?

I'm sure a lot of people would want to believe that Myles hasn't cheated because of how much he has meant for the site.  However, we should not turn a blind eye towards this possibility.  It needs to be examined and really, Myles needs to say something.

I agree but myles is also important to the community in other ways. He discovered new shortcuts and strats. lets not jump gun and let him speak. The mods know how jorge cheated they had many discussions as far as i know.

He's had about 2 weeks, which is plenty of time. I agree that he should be able to speak his mind, but how much longer does he need?

If the guy who verified and uploaded the run to SDA knew it was segmented and didn't tell anyone, then that guy really has some explaining to do.

I think it's more likely that the guy assumed it was single-segment but just forgot to write "single-segent" on the SM64 page.

+ Jorge was 100% proven to have cheated for (at least) 2 years in MKW. He played both at the same time, there's no reason to believe he didn't cheat at both.

The point is, that the only thing he did was splice together two runs. The entire "run" would be around 15 minutes. If he would do that on MK64, wouldn't his RRd and WS times be higher ranked than 35th-50th place?

The point the people here are making is, if he was willing to cheat in SM64 by splicing together a run, who's to say he wasn't willing to cheat in MK64 (say, by TASing or lying about certain times, etc.)
