Look on SDA and you will see that someone did a 120 star run on Mario 64. I thought this was amazing and it might interest people such as Alex Penev.

We all know about that video already.  Also, even though Penev's time is slower, it was done on the PAL version of the game which runs slower, so if you take that into account then Penev's time is actually a little faster.  If I remember correctly, I think Penev said the NTSC equivalent of his time by SDA's timing rules would be under 1:10.

Fried, he was talking about the new 120 star vid, not the 70 star vid. I downloaded it today but haven't watched it yet.

I did download it and I'm watching it right now Grin I once timed myself beating it as fast as possible using the 16 star glitch and I got 27min and something seconds......I can do better, but I just can't get the little mistakes down costing a couple minutes all together.

Oops, I misread the post, sorry about that.  Can someone watch the video and tell me how good it is so I'll know whether I should download it?

well I'm half way done(I took a break) and by the looks of it so far it's a pretty nice run.

1. He knows exactly which coin to get during his 100-coin star.
2. He does a few mistakes and it's kind of funny to watch.
3. I personally like his style of playing the game...
4. well, there isn't a number 4

If those are good enough reasons, you should download it and erase it when you're done if you are concerned about how much space it takes up.

Does the general playing quality look more or less skillful than the other 2 runs?

Much worse, but the 100 coin stars are cool.  I'd wait for a better one if I was you.

Yea the 16 and 70 runs were way impressive (the 120 is too) but the 120 is indeed quite sloppy.

We all knew that it was going to be bad in the first place. Just by judging the number of mistakes from the 16-star to 70-star, mistakes increased significantly. And obviously they increased a lot on the 120-star considering that it is almost 2 times as much stars(4 deaths!)
Has anyone even thought about trying to record a 120-star run? How about 70-star? 16?

I didn't like SM64 when it was first released. Many people said it was one of the best games ever made.

I got it with my DS and was determined to get into it, and I have no idea why I don't like it when EVERYONE else does.

I just can't put my finger on why I can't get into it, but I gotta respect anyone who can run it so quickly.

I tried out all the bugs of the 16 star run.....the long jump technique is simple...just press the stick back and hold Z while jumping all the time (long jump)

The only thing i was not able to manage is the one with the rabbit. I had so many tries, but it depends on luck in my eyes, because everytime when u try that there is another bug. Its confusing. Does anybody know an "easier" way to get that rabbit through the door? Someone made it?

It can be done in PAL, I remember Penev saying that he did a 16 star speed run.

Yeah..im sure it can be done, maybe theres a small trick. Like the position of the rabbit and/or small jumps between the doors. I cant find a pattern in the 16 stars video. It would be cool to talk to the person who made that run. Maybe he can help me to get it work.

The rabbit part is kind of easy in my opinion. It just takes practice, the vid helps a lot. Are you sometimes jumping through the door into the otherside?? If you are then try and push the jump button more easily...(I guess it is luck)
I think that I'm slightly worse at doing the long jump backwards thing. I can't understand how they can do it on just one try. I have only done it once on my first try, it usually takes me around 8-10 tries...

Sorry, i cant do that with the rabbit. I tried all versions out. There must be a small trick that is important to know.

Somebody knows it?

Merging with the door works in all versions (not DS, I presume). When you go through the door, hold backwards and jump. But you don't want to do a normal jump because you will hit the wall above the door and bounce back.. you want to do a tiny jump (tap A lightly).

Many of my attempts were ruined with the rabbit. Sometimes I make it first try, sometimes it still doesn't work for 5 minutes.

The stairs part is teh easy part even if the last stair can sometimes be really bad.

I had a pretty nice run screwed in those stairs because taking a bad angle makes you go through the stair and fall into wet dry world then you're done since exit course takes you back down and you have to redo the first stair or getting a star is long  :'(. i find that the first rabbit door is the real hard part that can screw the runs.
