Right.. where do i start.. whats the deal with RR?

Just seems weird how certain jumps are a bit freaky.. anyone got any thoughts on where the best time saver is?

I'm going for on the first lap you can jump most if not practically ALL of that last corner because the thwomps aren't there! Hence why my 5-lap splits are all so equal, first included.

Don't think I'll be much help here. I just kinda hang on as much as possible on this track. I've noticed that you can gain or lose a lot of time on the tight turn just before the road narrows before the split.
Current time - 1'33'41 - 18'51. Splits all over the place

The U-Turns are the most important corners to get right

(Corner 4 and 5)
I suggest you watch Pierre's vids, or Gerard Roodhorst's (Gerard's hairpins look sharper, eventho Pierre's times are faster)  ???

I am in the dark on RR as well btw. My pr is 17"44, but I doubt I will ever make GOD standard (17"39) there  Lips Sealed

cornercutting on the 2 u-turns is more important than having accurate driving.  you should be able to take one hop on the double turn to the blockheads and two hops on the longer U-turn.  your kart should be within a couple pixels of falling off when you make those hops.

That's what I thought too, but Pierre does 2 jumps on the first U turn you describe....and he must be doing something right since he holds the WR flap  Undecided Smiley

My instinct tells me 1 jump is faster too, but after I saw he did 2 jumps I am not sure whether it is faster with 1 jump.

1 or 2 jumps, I really don't know what's the best ! Sometimes I did one jump, sometimes 2... It depends of my position after previous right corner !

I was thinking about this the other day when people were talking about hopping not slowing you down.

I think if you hop straight like over the bouncers in gv1 and bc1 then you dont lose time, if your hopping sideways like on the wr strat for ci2 then i think it's gradually slower. Due to the nature of the tight hopping on RR is think one would be slower than two in the same way that holding down R when moving sideways is a fraction slower. My other proof of this is when doing the GV3 sc. Try driving it normally sliding before the jump using/holding R, otherwise drive from wide with a normal slide and it's just about quicker on the road (but obviously slower overall because you've not got the racing line).

I can only give one hint for the GV3 sc...I always make 2 little jumps with r before making the jump. If you want to see how, just check out my vid. I don't know if it is the fastest method, but it worked for me.... Grin

Hi,

I'm pretty sure hopping doesn't make you lose any speed.  I tend to vary the number of hops on the u-turns depending on my line and so on, my style of driving is pretty instinctive and reactive (can't understand how people do 5 laps the same on any course!).  But I've not noticed the number of hops affecting my speed, when I race against a ghost it's all down to racing line and how much of the corner I can cut.

If you want to meet up any time I can always give you a few hints, see where you lose speed compared with how I do it.  Maybe give you a few hints on other courses as well (RR is one of your best ones anyway isn't it?)

Matt.

Had a go on RR last night (yeah I'm out of retirement after that month off) and had one of those sessions where you look up and it's an hour later, think you'll just have a few more goes, look up again and it's another hour later.  RR is addictive!
Best effort was 1'28"47 with splits of 17"81, 17"57, 17"59, 17"63, 17"87, well annoyiong I screwed up the last lap or would have been a big PR!  Oh well.
I still can't see how to get down into the 17"3* laptimes though, I think I lose a lot of time on the second U turn but it's getting better.

18.00 - again my fastest first lap
