I know that the BC lava can be very frustrating especially if you're just getting started on these tracks, but quite frankly, being skilled in BC3 or either one of the 2 other BC's has very little to do with good jump timing.
Eventually, you get to a point where the jumping rythm and your driving become one, and from that point onwards, you can jump the BC3 bumping bars with the right timing about 95% of the time; Missing it will usually be caused by intense 4th or 5th lap stress, or your brother getting in-between the tv screen and you. For now, and until you get much lower in the 1'30's, I wouldn't bother too much about jumping any lava gap that you consider to be too risky. Or maybe you can start doing it on the 1st lap only, with the thwomps being out of the way, or anything you feel comfortable with, pretty much. I remember not even attempting to jump the 2 first bars (those being just before the 2nd corner) before I got into 1'30's (which may compare to 1'32's-1'33's in PAL), so it is clear that a good cornering matters as much, if not more at the end, and that's one of the things that makes the beauty of this course, in my opinion. (you always seem to find more way towards the inner side of the U-turns, hence your lap times progressively getting faster and faster, as if the course had no limits)
That being said, I find BC2 to be a more challenging course than BC3 is to finish 5 very good laps on. However, that may very well be caused by the fact that I cut inside the 2nd block.
