Voted for Thomas, cause I know him as a very helpful and friendly guy, who has beenhelping the site along. He could be more interested in history, though Wink-.
Alex seems to be a great guy, too - it's just that I feel I know Thomas better.  Alex also does a great job on the MKDD site, and is one of the really central people to these sites.

Keeping up with the vote sharing. Matches are still pretty close, so that's a good thing to see. At least it keeps me interested in this whole contest. Here goes...

Paul Tanney vs Nathan Stinson
-My vote: ? ? ? ? ? ?
I will not reveal my vote yet since we are gonna have a rematch for this one. I'd like to add something to the whole rematch thing though. I'm not sure how they plan on doing this, but I think they should ban everyone who already voted in this match to vote again. Both player already received 15 votes. Asking those 30 people to re-vote would probably do no good, and there's a chance that not all of them will re-vote. So we might end up with one of the 2 getting lucky, and seeing most of his supporter voting that day. I'd rather see 5-6 new faces cast their vote, and add those to the total.

Alex Penev vs Thomas Grandjean
-My vote: Alex Penev
This one mainly came down to who I knew best. Both are great guys, but I just happen to talk with Penev alot more, and since I don't have a whole lot against him, he gets the vote.

I love it when people completely misread my statements.

Anyway, I voted Penev, like I have mentioned several times, going into the chat automatically gets my vote.

I'm not going to bother vote sharing for the Stinson/Tanney match yet. Not sure why this one got left in a tie when the matches from the previous rounds went on until we got something. Still, for whenever the rematch is, I would like to second Louis' suggestion of rolling over the votes for the people that already voted, and only making this between the people who didn't already have a say.

Alex Penev vs. Thomas Grandjean
Voted for Penev. Granted, Grandjean kind of blew off my request for PAL N64  Wink, but either way, I know Penev better. Nothing much else to add here that I haven't said in the last few rounds.

1/1 today. Sorry for keeping it so short, but trying to get this done as fast as possible as most of my free time is being directed toward GTA:San Andreas.

voted for Mark

he deserves that for all the work he's put in, and for being a personality

I guess it's possible not to like Mark
on the other hand it's quite possible to like him

discussing (matters of a non-karting kind) with Mark is impossible. that's the one thing that pops into my mind when I think of what to say about this guy. that's bad, because Mark has some authority here
yeah, that's it

still, I think i like Mark

I really have no reason not to vote for Laflamme - it's just that I voted for Mark

I didn't vote for all those tied match cause I couldn't be online so that's really bad to see I could have changed a lot to this whole thing  Sad

Last match I voted though was Penev vs Grandjean where I went for Thomas cause lately he helped me a lot with kart but also with non-kart issue. He do helped with the french MK64 elite. While Penev helped me a lot with Kart and other video games in the past so it was a hard vote and I think Penev deserved to win because he's in the top for N-sc SC and one of the greatest gamer out there I think but I still went with Thomas which I think I know better as a person then Penev.

I always had/have difficulties with the tough though thought and all those same thingy.

Anyway double disapointed since there won't be a rematch since I would have voted for Simon on that matchup but couldn't get online  Lips Sealed

Even if it would have been against my bracket but well what can I do

What's this? I can vote share again? It's like a blast of fresh air...but I sense a conspiracy...

Mark Jones vs. Simon Laflamme
Voted for Jones. I have to admit it, and not just because it's nearly public record. I was pushing for the Bart vote to count in this match. I suppose it could be chalked slightly up to personal interest, but I seem to be nosing my way into contest business on a semi-frequent basis now. The way I see it, the vote was within the time limit, and there was no implication that Tanney would not be back to make sure it got added, so I think the right thing was ultimately done. (Thanks for caving, Jon. Wink)

Anyway, I want to say a few things about Simon here really quickly, or not, if my previous vote shares are any indication of what is to come. In between this match and his previous match, I took the time to read the remaining part of his fake chat (I was roughly halfway through), and I must say that it is quite good. A bit of humor, as I've said, goes a long way with me, and a good joke project really tickles my fancy. Stuff like that is a surefire way to win me over.

Simon also seems a bit like myself in the writing department (aside from joke pages). Simply put, we're both pretty long-winded.  Smiley Still, I must say that even if I don't agree with the material, I do enjoy reading what Simon has to say, and judging from the little I've seen, I really wish he would vote share. Overall, and even though I don't chat with him often, I'd have to say that my opinion of Simon raised on a whole during this contest.

And those recent opinion boosts may have been enough to mustle a vote against most people, but Jones is in my upper echelon of online friends, and will promptly roll most comers. That seems to be precisely what happened here.

I think Jones gets a bit of an unfair rap with some people around here for his MB presentation. Granted, this may be your only contact with him, and while it isn't unfair to say that he may enjoy flexing his moderator/owner mustle on this board, or at least talking about flexing it, that really isn't a full representation of his character, and it doesn't help that some people seem to take his posts the wrong way. It may be the case with most of us, but I think Jones is much easier to chat with in instant messages.

Of course, this is all just me talking about a guy I get along with already. It's not entirely reasonable to expect that he'd chat the same way with me as he would with others. That said, it appears to me that Mark is a little more free with what he is willing to say/show around me, at least compared to what I see him say to others, so I guess I feel kind of privileged for that.

If you're lost on where I'm going here, don't feel alone...I'm screwing myself up. I guess what I'm getting at is that behind those hammers of hell, there's a great guy...who is hitting you with a hammer. And that's good enough for a vote.

Kinda bummed to see Simon out now, really, but we're getting to the nitty-gritty, and people that I'd be interested in seeing move on are going to get the boot on occasion, I guess. At least he lost to someone with a bit of honor, and not...you know...me.

1/1, but maybe only because I complained a lot about it.  Wink

I also should quit forgetting to vote.  I was actually going to vote for Jones, although Jones vs. Laflamme was a tight decision for me.  Coulda been 18-16, or the last vote ignored and still 17-16. *breaks wall with forehead*

Jong vs Louis

My vote: Louis

Well here it was pretty easy for me to vote. First I met Louis this summer. I chat with him sometimes and he's really helpful in a lot of situation. While MJ is well #1 at MK 64 and I never spoke with him really so I had to go with Louis.

Finn vs ben

My vote: Finn

I never spoke to Ben at all while Finn post a lot on the forum and sent me some e-mail a few times so that pretty much settled it. Since Finn post so great quality post everytime (or so  Wink) and Ben post like never...

First of all, two quotes from Lacey that I've been meaning to mention (IRC stuff...)

Quote:
[19:58] <mjf314> well right now all i care about is u doing well in the rest of the tourney, for example if u beat liem 24-9, that means i'm about as popular as liem
[19:58] <shadow_> lol
[19:58] <mjf314> so that would be pretty cool
[19:58] <shadow_> If I beat him 24-9 I _will_ go to london in a dress and juggle in front of teh queen

Not quite 24-9, granted, but I think he should still be bound to it.

Quote:
[19:21] <shadow__> If I make it anywhere near the finals I'll eat my hat
[19:21] <shadow__> I'd like to get to round 4
[19:21] <shadow__> then it's anyones game
[19:21] <JWhalls> if you make it anywhere near the finals, I'll buy you an extra hat

He's nearing it, and I don't know exactly how near we were talking about, but I stand by that, I guess. If he eats his hat (and we'd need some evidence), I will buy him a new hat.

Okay, now to the vote sharing.

Michael Jongerius vs. Louis-Philippe Sabbagh
Voted for Louis. I must say, before the match, I really figured this for an even closer match than it was, even giving the edge to Louis. I'm not entirely sure what happened here, but I'd venture to guess that the DD votes went almost exclusively to Jongerius. Even in SMK and MK64, where Louis has had successful careers, Jong is generally higher ranked, and has more video evidence, which I think causes a massive sway if people don't know either person well.

I guess I'm not sure what to make of the results of this match. On the one hand, I've heard a number of people online claim to have talked to Michael a decent amount, and nobody seems to have anything particularly bad to say. Still, I'm left with the feeling that the people who know the two voted for their favorite, and then Jong cleaned up all the other voters. I suppose I can't complain even if that is the case, as I'm every bit as guilty of voting for people I don't know well, but I'm still disappointed at losing one of my contest favorites, even if almost everyone predicted it. I suppose this little snippet from IRC should've been all the foreshadowing I needed too...

Quote:
[18:47] <jonathansteel> Louis767 = nicholas st louise?
[18:47] <Louis767> no
[18:47] <Nicholas> eh?

I guess I should also mention that Jong did IM me yesterday, initiating what appears to be our first direct IM, though we've been in the same chat room on a couple occasions. All ten or so lines of the chat were pleasant, but not quite enough to make me reconsider my vote.

Anyway, not much else that I think is necessary to add...sorry Louis. Undecided

Ben Miller vs. Finn Berger
No idea what is wrong with me and my sleep schedule, but forgot to vote here. I had seen the image multiple times, and perhaps I was distracted by Santa Clause, and maybe failed to realize that there was a match at all. Either way, it seems my vote for Ben would've done next to nothing. Yes, that's right. I said Ben.

Despite how nice (and apparently jolly) Finn may be, I know him solely from his MB posts. While he may be one of the best posters around (and Ben doesn't post much at all), I spent months talking to Ben on and off on AIM a while back, and I consider him a closer friend. Plus, Ben sent me my PAL MK64, making him one of the few karters to have mailed me something, and from Australia nonetheless. That makes him a-ok in my book.

This match just seems to be another one of the new school vs. old school matches (Ben being the old school here, amazingly  Wink), and that almost always will work out for the new school player around here, I'm guessing. At least, in this type of scenario, where the old schooler isn't around much.

The margin of victory was still a tad surprising. I would've figured Ben had amassed more than 6 good friends over the years, or maybe have gotten some PAL sympathy votes for his 1.2024 works, but perhaps the Santa charm was too overwhelming. I must say that I was hoping for a Gandalf picture, though. Then we could ask Ben to color his hair red, and we could call him the Balrog, and then...oh god...I'm such a nerd.

Well, so much for the streak. 0/2 (or 0/1, depending on what you count). Where were you people when I needed you most? Actually, this was second and third most, I think. I probably need you most for today's match.
