First of all, two quotes from Lacey that I've been meaning to mention (IRC stuff...)
Quote:[19:58] <mjf314> well right now all i care about is u doing well in the rest of the tourney, for example if u beat liem 24-9, that means i'm about as popular as liem
[19:58] <shadow_> lol
[19:58] <mjf314> so that would be pretty cool
[19:58] <shadow_> If I beat him 24-9 I _will_ go to london in a dress and juggle in front of teh queen
Not quite 24-9, granted, but I think he should still be bound to it.
Quote:[19:21] <shadow__> If I make it anywhere near the finals I'll eat my hat
[19:21] <shadow__> I'd like to get to round 4
[19:21] <shadow__> then it's anyones game
[19:21] <JWhalls> if you make it anywhere near the finals, I'll buy you an extra hat
He's nearing it, and I don't know exactly how
near we were talking about, but I stand by that, I guess. If he eats his hat (and we'd need some evidence), I will buy him a new hat.
Okay, now to the vote sharing.
Michael Jongerius vs. Louis-Philippe Sabbagh
Voted for Louis. I must say, before the match, I really figured this for an even closer match than it was, even giving the edge to Louis. I'm not entirely sure what happened here, but I'd venture to guess that the DD votes went almost exclusively to Jongerius. Even in SMK and MK64, where Louis has had successful careers, Jong is generally higher ranked, and has more video evidence, which I think causes a massive sway if people don't know either person well.
I guess I'm not sure what to make of the results of this match. On the one hand, I've heard a number of people online claim to have talked to Michael a decent amount, and nobody seems to have anything particularly bad to say. Still, I'm left with the feeling that the people who know the two voted for their favorite, and then Jong cleaned up all the other voters. I suppose I can't complain even if that is the case, as I'm every bit as guilty of voting for people I don't know well, but I'm still disappointed at losing one of my contest favorites, even if almost everyone predicted it. I suppose this little snippet from IRC should've been all the foreshadowing I needed too...
Quote:[18:47] <jonathansteel> Louis767 = nicholas st louise?
[18:47] <Louis767> no
[18:47] <Nicholas> eh?
I guess I should also mention that Jong did IM me yesterday, initiating what appears to be our first direct IM, though we've been in the same chat room on a couple occasions. All ten or so lines of the chat were pleasant, but not quite enough to make me reconsider my vote.
Anyway, not much else that I think is necessary to add...sorry Louis.

Ben Miller vs. Finn Berger
No idea what is wrong with me and my sleep schedule, but forgot to vote here. I had seen the image multiple times, and perhaps I was distracted by Santa Clause, and maybe failed to realize that there was a match at all. Either way, it seems my vote for Ben would've done next to nothing. Yes, that's right. I said Ben.
Despite how nice (and apparently jolly) Finn may be, I know him solely from his MB posts. While he may be one of the best posters around (and Ben doesn't post much at all), I spent months talking to Ben on and off on AIM a while back, and I consider him a closer friend. Plus, Ben sent me my PAL MK64, making him one of the few karters to have mailed me something, and from Australia nonetheless. That makes him a-ok in my book.
This match just seems to be another one of the new school vs. old school matches (Ben being the old school here, amazingly

), and that almost always will work out for the new school player around here, I'm guessing. At least, in this type of scenario, where the old schooler isn't around much.
The margin of victory was still a tad surprising. I would've figured Ben had amassed more than 6 good friends over the years, or maybe have gotten some PAL sympathy votes for his 1.2024 works, but perhaps the Santa charm was too overwhelming. I must say that I was hoping for a Gandalf picture, though. Then we could ask Ben to color his hair red, and we could call him the Balrog, and then...oh god...I'm such a nerd.
Well, so much for the streak. 0/2 (or 0/1, depending on what you count). Where were you people when I needed you most? Actually, this was second and third most, I think. I probably need you most for today's match.
