Emulators

Hi!

Could somebody tell me something about the differences between SMK on emulators like ZNES and on the original SNES?
Does it e.g. tend to run faster or slower than on the SNES?
What are the reasons that personal records can't be entered in the lists it they are achieved on an emulator?

THX fo' ya' answers!  Smiley8)

Hi,

The speeds of the between emulator and snes are the same providing you dont have some different version of an smk rom that has been programmed differently.

The main reason why we dont allow emulator times to be entered to the site is because karters can easily use saved states to cheat by continously saving and putting together a full consistent 5-lap race, or even saving after each turn for a fastlap.

We only use emulators for testing purposes.

sami, what about zmv's?  they don't record if you load a state.  couldn't someone record their trials with their times at the end of each race instead of recording replays using save states with the record time at the beginning?  does game genie allow you to slow down the clock?  i'm thinking of starting an emulator record site (mainly for online play in 150cc) with zmv's required to verify times.

If emulator times were accepted then there would be no way to prove that someone isn't cheating.  The person could have played the game in slow motion, or he could have hacked Zsnes to add in a re-recording feature.  The only way you could know for sure he wasn't cheating would be if you do netplay with him so you can see the race as he's racing, but even then the person might find some way to cheat.  The only way to keep things fair is to make everyone play on a real SNES.

who's hacking zsnes to add in a recording feature?  the new WIP will support recording, though.  i could get around this new version by searching for a bug in the old version in the video, but videos don't seem to record everything on screen or in between screens.  it's not that easy to take a corner in slow motion as it is to dodge a hammer brother's throw in slow motion (anyone ever drive a record at a slower rate on the emu to see if it was possible?)  the real snes reduces the chance of cheaters, but not entirely.  if anyone has checked out the new WIP for znses at www.zsnes.com or can provide something reasonable, say something.  another problem we have to fear is the criminal masterminds for any strict anti-cheater system.
