if you use a red, green, or banana (firing forward), you can go through the other kart (kart(s) in gp maybe? it's hard to test because you only get a 1/2 second of transparency time. therefore, it is best to use in battle against a star coming toward you. it can also work against an approaching green shell, and sometimes stationary banana peel and green shell * but the speed is important cause you only have 1/2 second to pass through. on offense, laying a banana and green shell is difficult to enable transparency because it seems the time from when you push A to when the item comes out is greater than firing an item, so you have that much less of a window, if any.)
stationary green shells and banana peels produce a "shield effect". any object within a maximum distance will be transparent from a specific side (still not sure which...head of peel, back of shell?...i was so excited with the trick i never bothered to test this aspect), so the offensive player cannot contact the object (peel, green, or other player) with his kart or green shell if he is going a minimum speed.
these glitches do not protect against red shells which is good. also, they are hard to perfect...maybe the equivalent of firing and hitting someone with a banana peel.
there is also the star glitch. if the star contacts any kart, red shell, green shell, or peel, it cannot hit anything for 1/2 second (it simply passes through). this is good as a last hope by laying your green if you are being chased closely by a star. i still prefer the fake technique when being chased. usually, i post an accompanying video, but i'm f-in tired, and you guys can try this out for yourself.
also, you can't use items on the creeks (starting position places) on the ghost valley courses which is similar to the dirt bumps and yellow jumps except you don't lose speed. (do you lose speed on the dirt bumps on choco islands?)
