I just found some more differences between the Japanese version and US version of Super Mario Kart.  Do you remember that code that allows you to access the Special Cup without having get gold cups on the first three cups of the 100cc Class?  Well, in the Japanese version, the game makes a sound when you do the code correctly and the Special Cup menu appears.  In the US version, you don't hear that sound.   What sound?  The sound that the Japanese version makes is the one that you hear when someone uses a ghost in 2P Match Race or Battle Mode.  What do you think?

Among other things, there's another difference at the ceremony after you finish a Race Cup.  Note the display of the text at the top.  There's also no Blue, Red, or Gray ribbons.
