I'm a real big fan of time trials... From break the targets in super smash bro's melee, to speed runs in the older mario games.

I've done a lot of time trials in mario kart 64, and the new mario kart for gamecube, but I've never really tried any SMK time trials until here recently when I bought a copy of SMK at a neighbors yardsale.

Anyways, I know there are rankings for the top players, but is there a place where I can find rankings for intermediate and beginner players as well?

It'd be nice to be able to compare times to players at my level, so i can know which courses to work on, and maybe even meet some folks.

I do have video making abilities, so if I really do get into this, and I become good, I can make videos.

I'll be lookin' forward to learning more about techniques and the game in general as time goes by.

Thanks...

yes there is.. all the rankings are combined for smk just as in every mk game ranking.

go to the players site, the link is on the main page of any of the sites or forum.

the lower ranks are where your starting and for a game like smk i the driving is pretty straight forward in terms of strategy, just get your turns tighter and tighter..

Hello sasabe,

Yes, the main page of the site is at http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/

Here the rankings are split into PAL and NTSC which im sure you are familiar with. The players' lists contain members of the site who are Champions around the world down to beginners. Basically anyone no matter what their skill level is welcome to join the site.

All you need to do is to drive a course time and fastlap for every track in Time Trial mode on SMK (Mario Circuit 1 through to Rainbow Road), and e-mail all of your times along with the character used (Bowser or D.K.Jr best here), your first name and last name and the country you live in to supermariokart@yahoogroups.com

You can then be entered to the site on the next update and start improving your records from there. News updates are done each week and you can read about your progress and that of other karters.

We look forward to seeing all of your SMK Time Trial Records!

Best Regards,

Ahh, thanks for the welcomes(and the information), I should be sending in my scores by the end of this week, maybe sooner, maybe later.

I've been focusing on the first cup so far, but I guess I'd better get started on the other cups if I wan't to be in the rankings.

-Just a quick question-
What character should I use for these time trials anyway? I've been using toad because I like his turning, but I don't have it set in my mind that he's the best. I'm open to change when I find out which character is better.

Hello sasabe,

Yes, Toad is generally easier to control when starting out in the game, but the faster top speeds are done by Bowser or D.K.Jr, so you might want to start using one of them and making records with them.

Dont forget the details to send when you send your times to supermariokart@yahoogroups.com

First name, Last name, Character used, all course and fastlap times, country you live in. Thats all!

We look forward to seeing your records soon!
