Does anyone actualy know the difference between the two game modes? I see on the 64 site there's a very percise conversion factor. Where did that come from?

This has seemed like a forbidden topic, but I am really curious 'bout a couple things. It seems like the only differences are in 50hz the clock and the kart move 20 percnet slower (and the mt's aswell). But the top speed on 50hz is 100km = 62. 2mph. While the top speed on 60hz is 70mph. This is only 12.5 percent faster though, but maybe the the real speed in 60hz is a bit faster to compensate for the increased reaction time in 50hz???

If any body knows, or knows how to find out. That would be kewl Smiley

Here's something interested that kind of got me thinking: In the top 100 right now there are 28 ppl playing 50 hz (including mixed ofcourse), that's 28 percent....obviously. And in the top 20 there are 12 ppl playing 50hz, that's 60 percent (more than double) Shocked Undecided

Mario Kart 64:
NTSC runs about 1.2 times faster than NTSC
Apparently it's harder to MT uber-fast in PAL
Clocks both run in real time, so because the PAL game runs slower but the clocks runs normal, the times look slower.
Odometer useless.

MKDD:
60Hz runs about 1.2 times faster than 50 Hz
50Hz clock is also slowed down with the game, so no conversion is necessary.
Odometer is again useless. European version says 100kmh, US/Aus version says 70mph.. but that's just a number, it's not factored in correctly to begin with, since 70mph is way bigger than 100kph.

FYI, my game is 50Hz but my odometer is also in miles, so I go 70mph on MTs. I don't think the number actually make any difference, it's just a decoration to show pretend that the game has awesome and accurate physics (but we all know that sometimes you bounce really weird when you MT as you drop on the ground).

Some of those "top 20" people playing 50Hz might be doing it so that they can tape since they've been asked for a proof call, and taping in 60Hz doesn't work particularly well. So those players could well end up accustomed to 50Hz and start to use it exclusively, rather than go back and forth.

I was racing one of tanneys video's last week (laptop next to me) & i was shocked to see that he was nearly 1/2 a lap ahead of me!!  Then i realised that it was just because we were in different formats Roll Eyes.  Felt abit better after that moment of worry!

Was pretty much guessing the speedometer didn't mean anything.
