Barriers to remember
02/21/04 at 07:19:34

I finally broke the 1.23 LC-barrier. I spent the entire day trying. I know its a crappy time, but I bought the game a week ago and havent spent all the time playing. Whats interesting (and frustarting Grin) is the small steps of improvement that lead to the ultimate victory.
Before:
1.23.002
1.23.008
1.23.011
1.23.037
1.23.102

Now I am down to 1.22.459, breaking 1.22 this night Wink
Whats your most memorable barrier?

Btw do any of you know where to find track maps?

regards
your humble apprentice

Thats my next barrier Paul T  Grin I've yet to do a lap with two good tight turns and shroom. My fastest lap is 9.3xx i think, so i should improve my 7 lap time by quite a way when i eventually nail it!

I think mine was also sub 9 on BP. I remember when I first got 9"009 in about 5 minutes and I said to myself that I can get a sub 9. And BANG!!! In about 5-10 minutes I hit a 8"971. It's still my only sub 9 time coz I haven't tried it since. Heck!! I haven't played any track in a month or so Embarrassed stuck with MK64 at the moment.

It doesnt matter what characters you use but you should be using the barrel train on every track except on DKM you should use toads Kart and also maybe on WS, thats quite a good time you have got on BC with using the Toad Kart, you should be able to achieve a time under 2:30:000 with the Barrel Train.

Yes 2:22 is possible because a few people have already achieved this time, there are videos available of this, you just need to ask around the message board and people will send them to you, try and speak to a helpful bloke named Paul Tanney, he has some good vids. As for using the shrooms, as far as I know you are doing the correct thing on BC. On BP you should use the shrooms around the corners whilst holding a MT (Mini Turbo). This is quite difficult getting used to but again there are video's available, I currently have a best lap of 08.998 on this level. Its best to do 2 SSMTs on the straights. Have you sent in all your times to the site yet?

My last goal I finished was the 2'30 barrier on Bowser's Castle, well, I hate the track, can't seem to get a good race, my record of 2'28'0 is a race with a last lap 1 shroomer 51 sec!!! So I can definitely go sub 2'25, but I am not realy in the mood for the track right now

Yes it takes a while getting used to the BT, but stick with it. As for submitting times, you just need to go to the home page (www.mariokart64.com/mkdd) and there is a link saying "submit times" at the top left, just click here and it will tell you how to do it through yahoo groups, or you could just email your times to mkdd@yahoogroups.com. Smiley

For LC I only have 1:20:6 so Im not the best person to ask but there are 3 different shroom spots (cutting across the grass into the chain chomp lane, cutting across the sand past the chain chomp and shrooming around the last corner) most people either do the 1st or 3rd method but im not sure which is fastest. try them out to see which one heps you most. I cut across the grass, I think Alex Penev does this too (He is currently number 1 on the site).

I dont think he does shroom there, bcoz i remeber him saying when he saw the japs vid,he said"they shroom in the wrong place"so i dont think he shrooms there do you.He shrooms the last corner.

Tom,
Thanks for the offer, very kind of you. However, I bought this magazine which had track maps in it.

Btw I did beat 1.22 on LC. I landed a 1.22.000 on the way. This kartering business sure is tough.

Rikard

Just take good sharp corners with 3 MT's in the first big corner, this big corner is one of the main time winning points, along with the straight path to the finish line, the turn where you shroom must be sharp too

The last turn in LC is pretty much the accepted best place to use a mushroom, I'm quite sure.

I know all of you shroom in the last corner, but I still have a problem with the fact that the WR time was done with the shroom before the chomp cut. I'm assuming they save the same amount of time right now, because I still can't say how much time each really saves. Sad

When did anyone say the world record uses that route?

Cesar has 1.17.0 and I think he takes the last turn with a mushroom.  The world record is supposedly 1.16.9 or so, right?  The best video I've seen is 1.17.9 where nobuo uses them over the grass, but that's a whole second difference...
