Non-NBT questions, issues and site's announcements
02/20/04 at 16:32:36

Ok, this is a place where you can ask any question you have about the Non-NBT players' site; its rules, how it works, and also a place where you can share any thought or suggestion you have on the NBT/Non-NBT issue. I think it is better that way than using yahoogroups as a medium between the Non-NBT site and the players, as yahoogroups should be reserved mainly for PRs' submissions.

From now on, I will also announce it here when there are important changes or progress going on with the Non-NBT site, though the main text part should still appear on the Non-NBT site itself.

I'm not going to make that topic sticky for now. The SMK board isn't really active anyway, but as things go by, we can see how it goes and make it sticky if needed, so we can use this topic as a Non-NBT discussion reference.

Hey

dp2 the corner before the final corner, I boost and take a little bit of grass on the right side with me.
Is that NBT?

Well, in theory, if you cut through the corner itself, that would be NBT, but if you are done powersliding around the corner by when you release the boost, and that the grass cut is just on the right side of the straight way following the corner, then it would be Non-NBT.

In your case though, and considering what kind of corner that 2nd to last corner is in DP2, I strongly believe your time would be Non-NBT. You said it was the way Michael Jongerius did it, and I remember discussing about it a bit with Michael, and the way he was talking about it, I think it was rather clear this was no NBT material. You'd have to cut short your boost pretty early during the powerslide for it to cut a significant part of the corner so that it is considered NBT. The powerslide length needed in PAL to create a boost is so long I doubt you could do such a thing, unless it is really forced and on purpose.

Hey,

I got a little boost tonight, and finally started working on a Non-NBT WRs page. There is one for PAL, and one for NTSC. The concept is pretty basic for now, but any idea that could make the WRs list more interesting to look at would be cool. I was thinking about adding dates and 5-lap splits information, but I'm afraid there would be too many "?" or blanks, especially for the PAL version. Anyway, feel free to post them here if you have any feature's suggestion for the WRs pages.

Oh and before I forget, you will notice I listed the BC1 F-lap WR as 17"70 from Armin instead of Sami's 17"67, which was done with a boost to start the lap. I have been talking, as well as thinking about it lately, and I definitely think forbidding a F-lap boost there in PAL for Non-NBT driving is the best and most simple way to go. Quite a few PAL players told me that getting an advantageous boost to work out at BC1's last turn was just so tricky you could barely imagine it being possible, and I guess it is logical since it already goes pretty tight there even in NTSC.

So, unless there is fierce opposition, the definitive Non-NBT rule concerning F-lap boosts prohibition in PAL will include BC1 from now on, so in PAL, you cannot hold a boost anymore to start a F-lap in BC1. I will for sure re-announce this more "officially" when finally I get done with editing the rules' page fully, and from then I can send e-mails to a few players concerned to make sure we gather a lap done without F-lap boost from all of them. Normally, there shouldn't be too many inconveniences, other than having to re-contact a few PAL players, as well as doing a few changes to the higher PAL BC1 F-lap standards.

Anyway, back onto the WRs pages...  Smiley The details and links can be found on the Non-NBT site.
