question/challenge

this question isn't too important regarding racing heh, but i've been curious about it for a while as I imagine other people have to eh?

when you start a TT race and screw up immediately after the race starts, what is the fastest time you're able to press start in order to retry? there seems to be a period of time right after the start of the race where pressing start doesn't do anything, right? does anyone know the exact time when pressing start begins to work? the lowest time i've got was 1"49, that i can remember. maybe a 1"47 one time, but i could be wrong. so how about you guys?  Cheesy

1"49 is the ultimate lowest you can press start at after screwing up a turbo start (or the very beginning of a race). I must have seen it hundreds of times.  Smiley I believe 0"83 is the lowest on a PAL console. (it was discussed on the french forum a few months ago, and I believe that 0"83 was widely agreed to be the lowest possible, though someone could quickly confirm that being the right time or not)

What's interesting is that those 1"49 and 0"83 pause gaps only stand for time trial mode. I know I've paused the race after 1"41 in match race once, and it could possibly be possible to go a few hundredths lower, but I haven't tried, really (hmm, gonna try now  Smiley) Anyone who wishes to try, it would be interesting to know what is the lowest PAL possible pause gap in match race mode.  Smiley

Ok, 1"41 is really the lowest I could get in Match Race. I don't think you can get lower.  As for GP, well, if you're playing 1-player, it is 1"49 like time trial, but if you're  playing 2-players, it is 1"41 like match race. So in fact it wouldn't exactly be a matter of which mode you choose, but how many players are playing

1-player=1"49
2-players=1"41

Awesome, thanks a lot Simon  Smiley  That definately answered my question.

Have you tried pressing start while using the computer to race against in time trial mode?  Cheesy  I guess that would fall under the category of "2 players" eh?

Hmm... I really hadn't thought about it. I just tried though, and this falls under the 1"49 category. I guess you need 2 human players to fall into the 1"41 category, because then GP would fall under a "8-players  category" whatever amount of human players you selected.  Smiley

PS: Great new times in CI1!! It looks like I'll have to defend my ranks there soon?...  Smiley

Cool, thanks  Smiley  I don't know what I was thinking heh. I guess I thought that since you'd press start on the second controller that that would make it "two player". But yea, that was obviously wrong!

Thanks for the comments on the times! Though, I don't think you'll have to defend your ranks just yet  Smiley  Hopefully you will, though! But, I think I need more time to pull off a time faster than yours.

On that note, I think I'm going to play some smk.  Grin
