An old player needs new ideas!

Hi everyone! I've had my eye on this site for a week or so now and it's opened my eyes for sure. I started playing SMK when it came out all those years ago, and over the years become pretty good...or so I thought.
Now I find that hopping round corners greatly improves your times, upon discovering this I started to implement this technique only to discover the kart a lot harder to control and my times dropping by a couple of seconds over 5 laps.
I'd love to know how long the transition from sliding corners to hopping them took for those of you who couldn't master it overnight, or am I the only one?
My times for MC1 are 1'02"64 and 12"36 (PAL), the other courses aren't as good. I'd like to master this technique before moving on to all the other courses.

Yeah, I don't think I entirely control it either...
I don't have one strat for each corner, usually I hop a lot, but sometimes I just slide as well.
Depends on the racingline you're driving.

So basically it takes a long time to perfect it, if at all possible.
If you entirely perfect it you can drive times like Sami (1'00"99 without boost), and no-one of us ever did that.
You're times should improve till your below 1'02"20 though in a not too long timespan, just keep trying and experimenting a bit.

Thanks for the response guys :s, maybe this site isn't as popular as it seems. Still I'm trying my best to takes those corners on the hop. It seems the original driving line you take with sliding is slightly altered (seems tighter) if you do the same thing and just tap jump. When I try and let it slide out a bit mid-slide I just sometimes just miss the bend totally.
At least it seems it's hard to master (i hope it is), trouble is I'm much better on NTSC although I come from UK: on MC1 i get 1'00'87 NTSC and 1'02'65 PAL, which doesn't seem sensible, is it me or are the PAL karts harder to control?

Couldn't it just be you're more used to NSTC though?
On what format you learned playing SMK, and where did you spend most time on?
