Did this last sunday: 0"02 off. But damn, I wish I would have finished that very 5-lap attempt: 13"26-13"06!-13"12?-13"04!!-crash!  Undecided Was probably my only chance to beat my 1'05"63 5-lap. Anyway, that was getting a bit repetitive and boring, so Im done playing it for some time.

To Pierre,

The PAL GV2 5-lap WR (1'02"26) was done with no jump at all.

Today, I finally got the chance to play SMK once again.  It turns that the 1'06"79 for GV1 was actually based on an older PR from 1 1/2 years ago.  However, I did have a faster non-jump 5-Lap time on GV1, but I just couldn't remember what it was a while ago.  Anyways, it's now 1'06"51.

1. 1'05"63 - Simon Laflamme
2. 1'05"75 - Martin Morissette
3. 1'06"05 - Juan Arévalo
4. 1'06"51 - Hue Le

I never used the boosts in the times I had above either.  But, it is possible to achieve sub-1'02"00 times on this track without boosts at all.   Basically, you have to make your turns very tight, especially at the first turn.  To do this, you should get ready for the first turn before you even cross the finish line, like 1-3 starting starting positions before that point.  That way, it's easier to stay close and line up with the sides.  I hope this helps.

just to clarify, i didn't doubt the driving ability of you guys Wink

have you guys ever tried a 5lap time while doing a boost after the first turn without doing the platform jump?

thanks for the tips Elves. my cornering is far from perfect, as you can see in my time. i've been working on making the 1st turn tighter (and Not crashing). i'm down to 1'02"23, 12"22, but i choked on the last lap due to the excitement of beating my ghost  Undecided

Hey, 1'02"03 and 12"22 are definitely some nice times! I remember about 3-4 weeks after I entered the site, I had done 1'02"26 and 12"30 I think there without jumps, and I considered those times as some of my best back then.

Personally, I don't use a boost at the 1st turn, no matter if it is with or without jump, for a 5-lap or F-lap attempt. Some players like Stanley Jeram used a boost there, while some did not, and I wouldn't be sure which one is the fastest really. I felt a boost didn't fit into that turn very well and that just taking it very tight was faster, but really both must be about the same, or maybe taking the turn tight become more advantageous once you feel comfortable enough to take the turn tight as hell every time, but I don't know for sure.  Smiley

By the way Chris, could you post your new times to yahoogroups (supermariokart@yahoogroups.com) instead of posting them (I think) to Sami's personal adress? In the next weeks/few months to come, I will be updating the time's database excel file that Sami will soon be using to update the site (if you're not familiar, more details about that can be found on end of July's site's updates, August 24th site's update and on the e-mails that were posted to yahoogroups around August 18th to August 23th), and posting the times to yahoogroups will make my job easier to update the times through the database as they get posted, instead of going through your site's profile each update to make sure which ones are new and which are not. (just right now I'm having some trouble because Sami made a mistake at copying your BC2 times into your profile, because they cannot be 1'31 / 17"  Tongue)

-Thanks.

thanks! i played GV2 for like 2 hours and was only able to make about 3 or 4 5lap runs without crashing. i still can't make the platform jump though.

i didn't realize i beat the BC2 WR by about 8 seconds Wink but seriously, you're right and that 1'31 was my new time for DP2.

from now on i'll post my new times to yahoogroups, no problem. and i'll specify whether or not the times were NBT or Non-NBT. (though, just let me make sure i'm under the right impression as to what they mean. does a Non-NBT time require you to not do any sand/dirt/grass boosts? but you're allowed to do a regular boost on the track itself? and is an NBT time accomplished by doing at least one sand/dirt/grass boost?)

Hey, for the difference between Non-NBT and NBT, you can go to this page: www.geocities.com/sim07laflamme/nonnbtrules. Hopefully it will answer your question. If not, let me know and if needed, I can do the necessary changes to the rule's page to make it clearer to understand.

Quote:
and i'll specify whether or not the times were NBT or Non-NBT.

Ok, does that mean that you are willing to be on the Non-NBT site? If so, I'd just need that you let me know. You can post a message either here, by personnal e-mail adress, or better yet, by yahoogroups. If your 40 PRs are already done by the Non-NBT rules, all I will need from you is a confirmation that you want to be on the site. Otherwise, I will note your name on my sheet (that's what I've got to deal with while the Non-NBT excel file is still in works  Smiley) and specify that you don't have a complete set of 40/40 Non-NBT PRs yet. In that case, you will just have to send those missing Non-NBT times eventually as you try and get them, and then we can add you to the site if it has started running by then. (It should not be launched before 2004, more likely during the end of Christmas break)

Thanks,
-Simon
