Power Players Challenge

I was just wondering if anyone has ever entered the Power Players Challenge (Arena) for Super Mario Kart in Nintendo Power magazine.  I know it was years ago......back in 1992 if I'm not mistaken.  It's been years since I've played the game and it brings back a lot of memories to see people still talking about it today.  It's definitely my fave. game of all time.

Rick,
I never entered the Power Players' Arena myself.  However, I did remember having to compare my times to that of those in Nintendo Power back then.  Now, do you still have those magazines by any chance?  I used to have most of them, I've lost most of the important ones showing the better records of those in Nintendo Power.  I did recall a guy named Ricky Innocent from Pennsylvania who did a 1'00"88 on Mario Circuit 1 in SMK for the July '93 issue!  Does that ring a bell to anyone?  Also, to anyone who still has all their issues from '93 to '96, do you still remember or can you find out what were the best times given for MC1, GV1, BC1, DP1, KB1, RR, and others particular?  I'm asking for this because I'd like to know what were the best times back then and I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'd imagine a special database for those.  Thanks for bringing this up Rick!

Later.

Whoa!   Cheesy  I'm flattered anyone remembers me.   I happen to be Ricky Innocent from New Castle, Pa.   I actually got a letter published in Nintendo Power also.  I got lucky with that though since it was the only letter I ever wrote to them.   It's been forever since I've played SMK but I still love it.  I think I can get all or at least most of the times you're looking for........I just have to get over my mothers house to get the mags.  lol  I probably have a couple hundred old video game mags over there.  Do you have an e-mail addy or do you want me to post them on here?  If you want to you can drop me a line also.  Buff10825@yahoo.com  Thanks for the reply.  Have a good one.

It was a real surprise that I'd ever stumbled upon anyone from Nintendo Power.  It was certainly nice talking to you.  Hopefully, it would be interesting to see you playing SMK once again.  Anyway, as for the times it would be better to send the Power Players' Arena lists to my email address at elves21692@netscape.net, especially since they can be quite long.  However, once you really have your "personal records" ready, send them to the yahoogroups at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/supermariokart.  Make sure you follow the directions on the given link before doing so:  http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/newplaye.htm

C ya!

To those who don't know Rick:  This is Ricky Innocent from New Castle, PA (USA) who had some of the best records in the issues of Nintendo Power back in the '93-'95 era.  The thing was that I remember guy with that guy for years from Nintendo Power and I hoped to get some lists of the best times that was were given Nintendo Power back then.  In fact, this is the actual person who was behind the story about the 1'00"88 on MC1.  This was exactly what Patrick Burke was talking about back in July 2002.  See link:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/supermariokart/message/1776  Yet, it is really him, Ricky Innocent, though people call him Rick now.  As I remembered, he did get a 1'00"88 and his name was listed in Nintendo Power in July '93 as one of the players with the best times for the course.  Yet, I even remembered that he had a record like 1'18"xx or something on DP1 back in '94.  Considering the era, his times were very impressive.  Soon, he'll be playing SMK and we'll see what happens.

c ya!
