Back again into this, and this time I intent to complete this goal.

Still stuck on the Extra Lightning cup 50cc. Got a good bunch of 2* runs today while I could hardly get 1* earlier, but I keep hitting those damn computers that are on my way, who kill my RCI2 runs...

Average times :

RBC2 : 1'56"xx + 4x coins
RMC3 : 1'45"xx + 4x coins
RKB2 : 1'02"xx + 4x coins
RCI2 : 1'17"xx + 2x coins x(

Edit : just got the following run

1'56"18 - 47 coins (no CPU hit)
1'45"51 - 41 coins (1 CPU hit, no offroad)
1'01"25 - 37 coins (1 CPU hit)
1'17"90 - 34 coins (no CPU hit, no offroad !)

2 stars... I don't think I can do a better run than that. This is the first ever I get a clean run on RCI2 and I got almost lucky while dodging the CPU, so I will have a very hard time replicating that.

I don't know what to do now Smiley

Would people be interested in me streaming GP's ? I'm not going to do more TT's until I get all 3* I think.

First finished run : 1'55"35 - 45 coins 1'48"73 - 44 coins 1'05"23 - 40 coins 1'18"85 - 32 coins Lightning strike + offroad on RMC3. Lot of offroad on KB1 + hit CPU's + bad race overall Bumped CPU's + some offroad on RCI2 3 stars

I think I have might have solved the 3* problem. Gas button is one of the important keys. Just did Extra Star Cup 50cc following the same restriction as previous cup.
I played horribly, bumped a lot into characters, hit 10 walls on RBC3, spent about 5-6 secs on the RDP3 grass... etc.
Nonetheless I still got 3* on my first try LOOOOOL Cool

Gonna do the others asap !

NO MORE 50cc !!! Edit : cleared 100cc mode already ! Only needed 1 or 2 tries for each cup. I even got 3* on the last cup despite two fall off. It isn't even hard actually once you know what to do

After getting enough coins most likely...

KB2 55"16 - 46 coins
GV3 1'15"46 - 30 coins
VL2 52"46 - 24 coins
RR 1'21"90 - 29 coins

Remembered to write the times down before exiting out. The run I had for 100cc was pretty much flawless, no falling off etc. This time I bumped into some blocks on GV3, did some scuba diving on VL2, and fell off once or twice on RR.

Two more left. ;p

VL1 52"66 - Coins 31

Except for the first lap on VL1, I managed to avoid hitting any blocks. I hit a bunch of walls though and nearly came to a dead stop at one part on BC3. Only time I used the brake was for the hairpin on MC4. Lastly, I did drive in the grass a bit for DP3 but kept my speed up for the most part.

I've been thinking about this for ages.
I got all the three stars for all cup, except the legendary Lightning Extra (150 cc only).
I'm not that good in the game, but it's pretty weird I completed all the cups for the first time real trying them and not being able to finish Lightning Cup.

I tried it again with Bowser today and got, as always, ** and not ***
BC2: 1:36:53 (36)
MC3: 1:26:18 (35)
KB1: 0:55:66 (27)
CI2: 1:09:58 (31)

In 3/4 tracks I got a ghost in the last round.

I don't know which ones to improve, I think all of them must be better, but especially CI2 en KB1. I even think the other times are enough.
I think there's a relation with the number of coins and the track. It could be possible that when you drive faster, you don't need many coins.
Of course, ending first is very important. I did the extra Mushroom Cup, didn't collect any coins and waited 10/20 seconds when I was just before the finish, waiting for Peach to come (with Toad). When I still ended first (with 0.05 difference), I got the ***, but not when Peach is first in that race. It's weird that I can wait so long and still get the three stars.

Lightning is difference. The more times + number of coins posted (with ***), the bigger the chance we can at least discover something about this algoritm. Did all of you guys who passed this do it with Bowser, or with other drivers as well?

Also: does jumping over lava / jumps at the end in CI2 instead of just taking the jumps matter much?

First welcome on the forums !

I think your times and number of coins are good enough for ***
However offroad and driving style also important factor. You may release the gas the less possible and avoid braking. These details I believe where the ones forbidding me to get the *** on certain cups at first, and it was much easier after I applied those "simple" tips, even with worse driving.

By the way item hits are not revelant, I already got it by 5 shocks during a cup and still got the ***
Hitting the bumpers at BC2 / CI2 doesn't matter neither, it just slows you down (which isn't a bad thing in some cases Roll Eyes

)

Finally, I did all the retro cups with DK instead of Bowser (better handling to avoid mistakes) and I believe 3 stars is possible with any character. Pick the one you're best with.

Only CI2 slower, but less coins at all stages except Mario. Do coins matter....
I know plan to equalize the times with the number of coins.

For sure: time + coins are not the only factors:
BC2: 1:35:66 (43)
MC3: 1:22:46 (38)
KB1: 0:53:60 (44)
CI2: 1:02:98 (31)

I didn't left off the A button. I received three mushrooms and even a star (with ghost). I stop trying it now, I did this run with save states and I don't know how to improve and because someone got the *** with worser times and worser coins in all races, I don't know what to do.

If someone uses save states and gets the ***, perhaps he should use the state to discover (like trying things with CI2). Perhaps posting such a file (like a state in the 4th round of CI2) can help.
