I have * rankings on all regular cups on all difficulties, but on the Extra cups, I have a few * rankings, a few ** rankings and one * ranking on the 150cc Extra Lightning Cup. I'm still having a hard time getting three stars in extra Lighting Cup 100 cc and 150 cc and extra Special Cup 50 cc, 100 cc, and 150 cc. I've completed many challenging games 100% but getting three star ranks on these cups seems like the most difficult thing I've ever come across in a game. Isn't there anyone that can give specific requirements on what's needed to get three stars? I need to know what's are the most important factors. Is it not bumping into other vehichles or not bumping into walls or getting a lot of coins or do coins not matter? Or is it getting really fast times? Does driving on the water in Koopa Beach really matter if you get a faster time out of it? Do retries make a difference? Does using items make a differnce? Is lap consistency really important? Does making a minor mistake like driving on the dirt really matter if you still manage to get a good time in the end? Which of these contribute to it the most and what else does if anything? How many people here actually got three star ranks in these cups? Is KartSeven the only one?

As I knew Extra-Lightning 150cc was the hardest, I only played it after this achievement... Since 2004, I think I did almost 100 * on this Cup !

The highest I get is always two stars=(. And that's on 50cc=(. I know that I mus go through pretty fast (I skid every turn that I can skid which should be 90% of turns, not including small turns that skidding would slow me down on). As for coins I average about 25 coins per race... now as for off track I don't think I go off too often... but I'm pretty sure unless I stay on the road at full speed for 4 laps straight then I won't ger ***=(... Cup with KB1 is very hard though! Because of what staying on track is... I''ve only ever achieved an A in that cup.

I've completed the Lightning Cup 100cc about 35 times the past few days. These are a couple of my best times that were still only 2 stars:

135 2 stars
BC2 1'42'98 36
MC3 1'34'55 36
KB1 0'54'86 38
CI2 1'12'45 25

145 2 stars
BC2 1'43'95 42
MC3 1'34'86 36
KB1 0'56'41 31
CI2 1'11'11 36

Where do I need to improve? I use items as much as I can including stars and mushrooms. Is it necessary to not bump any walls or other drivers? I have a hard time with that (the drivers more than the walls) in BC2 especially. I don't do sand boosts in MC3; instead I jump over the sand at the following corner. In KB1 I sometimes jump over the deep water. Is it better to follow the track exactly and not even cut over the shallow water? I do slides over the shallow water as much as I can. In MC3, KB1, and CI2, I let off the gas on some turns to take them tighter and that helps me get faster times. I never use the brake. And do you get penalized for driving offroad even if you still get a fast time in the end?

But I think you can do better at BC2, and try to do more slides at KB1.

If it does not work, just create an account to youtube (free), and upload it. Youtube will do the conversion for you.

One try at Extra-Lightning 100cc yesterday (without any option used, and without offroad boosts) :

BC2 : 1'43"76 - 46 coins
(23"xx (stopped by a wall) - 20"xx - 19"89 - 20"xx - 19"6x), I avoided about 70-75% of the bumpers
MC3 : 1'34"58 - 36 coins
(18"9x - 18"3x - 18"9x - 20"xx (ghost on my face...) - 18"3x)
KB1 : 0'54"25 - 42 coins
(11"xx - 10"xx - 11"3x - 10"xx - 10"3x), always with slides around water
CI2 : 1'06"91 - 36 coins
(13"xx - 13"xx - 13"xx - 13"0x - 12"91), used the mudboost once or twice)

Total : 160 coins, *** !

So, I think your problem is CI2 !

What kind of strategy do you use for CI2? Do you ever let off the gas? I usually get 15'xx on my first lap then 14'xx and never under 13'5x on the rest. I keep jumping when going through the mud and I try to jump over the bumps but I still run over a lot of them. I usually get a mini turbo on the turn before the turn leading into the mud and sometimes get one on the mud.

After a lot more practice I finally got three stars in Lightning Cup 100cc!

These were my times:

BC2 1'43'58 42
MC3 1'35'83 27
KB1 0'55'68 41
CI2 1'13'45 24
134 coins and 3 stars

I couldn't believe it when I saw the three stars especially with the mistakes I made. A ghost got me in both MC3 and CI2. In MC3 I messed up by driving over the sand after failing to get a mini turbo on the final lap (I watched KartSeven's video again and learned how to sandboost with a lot of practice) and I drove offroad for about a second in CI2. I didn't use any items except a green shell to protect against a red in MC3 and a triple green shell in CI2. Hope I will have the same luck in 150cc.

I mean : cartridge counts when you're shooted by a ghost, so counts you got to lose 2 seconds and 5 coins. Congrats btw ! Post your first results in 150cc to see where you can improve !
