Help!  Can't go any faster!
03/19/03 at 11:01:03

Hi, I've been playing SMK for a few weeks now and I seem to have hit a wall, specifically on MC 1.  I can't seem to get below 1:03 (NTSC).  I feel like I'm taking the turns very tightly, so what am I missing?

I've heard boosting mentioned once or twice, what is it and how do you do it?  Are there any sites other than the proof of time pages that are good for finding strategies and good lines?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe!
For more information on the boosts, you can visit this website:
http://www.geocities.com/sim07laflamme/boost

It has been well done by Simon Laflamme and it gives a lot of information on the history and technics of the boosts.

Personnaly, to learn strats and technics for particular tracks, I watched a lot of videos of other smk players. It really helped me to improve some of my times.

Bye!,
Martin

To Joe:

I recommend working on normal hop jumping strategies and jump slides to cut corners more. If you say you have 1'03" on NTSC for MC1, there is still room left. Just imagine the shortest possible racing line on the track, and try to make your kart stick dead on that line using rapid hop jumping.

Sadly, my video files page is not working for some reason.. (French players please help!)

But if you look at http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/smk_proof.htm

I think thats the correct link. Undecided It is on the SMK main page anyway, im sure youll find it. There are videos of many karters PRs. Some things youll see the 'boosts' that karters have used to cut bits of grass. But these are really advanced techniques and wont help much until you have the course really perfectly driven the normal methods.

Best Regards,

Sami
