Title: Best AV to HDMI converter ?
Post by Vusur™ on 05/04/22 at 02:08:37

Hey guys, i was planning on streaming attempts, but it turned out that i have a few specific problems with recording my Gamecube gameplay. I already checked the Capture card thread and i didn't find answers.

So let me explain : i have an elgato HD60S, which only accept HDMI signal in. So i was thinking about using my cheap AV2HDMI converter, but it causes me 2 problems when playing MKDD :

1- It only works in 50Hz (i am on PAL), when playing on 60Hz, the screen gets all dizzy. Moreover i am a 60Hz player, so i don't plan on switching to 50Hz, since it feels off to me.
2- Regardless of the Hertz mode, i have an input lag, which basically turns the game unplayable... :(

I did some research for a better converter and found two interesting solutions : the Carby V2 and GCplug, they are both plug and play and use the same opensource software (GC Video), as far as i know, they work on 60Hz PAL MKDD, but i don't know about the input lag.

So do you guys know about it ? Or have a better solution i didn't found ? I don't care about video quality if the converter works, what makes me afraid though is the input lag, i'd like to keep a low latency.

Additional infos :
- I also have a Wii, maybe simpler or cheaper solutions exists for it, idk
- My GC is DOL-001 PAL, so i have the digital output
- Rn i use a composite cable (yellow red white)
- Price is no important to me, as long as it works, but cheaper is better :D

I'm using a GV-USB2 (Japanese Import), haven't tried alternatives.

Mine works like a charm but it does require some setup with some arcane software. There are English instructions online if you do a search, the device software is all in Japanese  :P

I find it has essentially no input lag? Funny enough I used a RCA splitter to split game output to both monitor (play) and capture (on PC), and it seemed to be worse with it split...I just play off my PC now.

I can't say I know much about the two devices you named, maybe someone else here may?

Thanks dude, i didn't know this kind of stuff existed, so your response could turn out to be very helpful !

Seems a bit tricky but i'll definitely investigate it.

If someone else wants to share his streaming experience or setup, i'll take your words ;D
