I wonder why emulators are not allowed in top 100? I know the player page says because of hardware limitation, but I may I get specifications if possible please? Thanks -An Emulator user

It’s a lot easier to cheat using an emulator.

Also, if you truly have the dedication to grind all the way to top 100, you should have the dedication to obtain official hardware

There's a lot of reasons to ban emulator, ranging from all kinds of sides.

The short answer is that it's not accurate to playing on GameCube or Wii in every sense of it.

No matter how accurate it is, there's always going to be very small inconsistencies, whether positive or negative. But that's not the only part -- You can for example also use any controller you want for emulator, which would be inaccessible and unfair to people who play on original hardware.

Further more, flanders also already mentioned two:

It's ridiculously easy in Dolphin to cheat as there are many ways to do so. Especially the higher you get, the more times should be verified and trusted.

But even when emulator times are verified to be with a normal nintendo controller + fully recorded, there's another reason: To put everyone on the same level playing field. If you're that committed to the game to play to top 100, you should be able to actually play on the original hardware.

Yeah, if you want to have fun and improve yourself then use emulator -- it's good for practice anyway -- but if you want to compete against top-100 players (who put in the effort without all the benefits of an emulator) then it's a bit disrespectful to compare lots-of-benefits emulator times to no-benefits vanilla times. It's like saying "I'm so important that I'm allowed to use benefits that you don't have".

I have never heard a good reason for emulators to be disallowed. Nobody has ever come up with a good technical reason that it would be advantageous. Emulator would make mkdd more accessible, easier to stream/record, easier to integrate helpful mods, and easier to setup/play. It is still an absolute mystery to me that top players are so stubborn about it. We obviously still get cheaters either way and the benefits massively outweigh the 'cons' to me.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse or start something -- I'm not particularly active right now (partly because of the activation energy of having a full console setup) -- but just wanted to voice my opinion and let D2G2 know that there are people who do support it.

No disrespect to goober as well, we are close friends and have talked about this before :D
