Title: Yoshi Circuit shroomless (yolo) with every kart
Post by Jonathan Karn on 06/02/21 at 16:00:53

I've managed to do yolo with 13 out of the 21 karts in MKDD as shown in my video here:

https://youtu.be/hmkX_XdH7pQ

The only karts I couldn't get it with were:
Bullet Blaster
Heart Coach
Bloom Coach
DK Jumbo
Wario Car
Koopa King
Piranha Pipes
Parade Kart

I think Parade Kart is definitely possible with more practice. Somehow I managed to do it with Boo Pipes after attempting for 30min or so. I'm interested in seeing if any of y'all have managed to do yolo with any of the karts above, or want to try it yourselves!  ;D

Keep trying! I bet you can get more of them.

You were right!

I just got it with Heart Coach, Bloom Coach, and Piranha pipes

So now all I have left are:
Bullet Blaster
Koopa King
DK Jumbo
Wario Car
Parade Kart

The list shortens :D

It seems odd that Bullet Blaster is giving me so much trouble. Every other small kart was easy and I got it within 5 or 10 tries each. The fact that I can do it with every medium kart and even 2 heavies makes it even weirder. I assumed BB would be one of the easiest to do yolo with due to it being very light, but it seems doing yolo only depends on the mechanics of each kart's MT alone.

The general trend has been this: The bigger the kart, the closer I need to be to the grass before releasing my MT.

The Bullet Blaster has the worst "Medium Off-Road" Stats in the games tied with Koopa King, which also can't make it.

I did some random calculations. I figure that we get the mini turbo frames at the top speed value then the rest at the Medium Off Road value. I chose 200 frames as the time to cross the grass as the values it gave were mostly right.

So the Formula I came up with was (200-MiniTurboframes)*MediumOffroad+MiniTurboFrames*TopSpeed
Probably not the most accurate, but it seems like an okay start.  [smiley=smokin.gif]

Kart       TopSpeed MediumOffRoad MiniTurbo Score
Koopa King144681014360
DK Jumbo143711014920
Wario Car142741015480
Bullet Blaster143683015850
Red Fire140742016120
Bloom Coach141772016680
Turbo Birdo141772016680
Green Fire142772016700
Parade Kart142743016840
Turbo Yoshi 139802017180
Heart Coach139832017720
Piranha Pipes143861017770
Boo Pipes137921018850
Barrel Train 143863018910
Para-Wing136893019210
Koopa Dasher 137893019240
Waluigi Racer140922019360
Goo-Goo Buggy136923019720
Toadette Kart136923019720
Rattle Buggy137923019750
Toad Kart138923019780

So this gives us a rough estimate of how hard it should be to jump the well with each kart. Scores of less then 18000 are challenging, and scores less than 16000 may not be able to do it at all, and for the most part it seems to line up with your experience.

The only question is why the Parade Kart is so difficult with such a high score. It seems like it should make the jump better than Red Fire at the very least. It has Better Top Speed, Better Light Offroad, the same Medium Offroad, better MiniTurbo, the same acceleration, and higher weight. If the weight was a big factor you'd think the Pipe Karts would struggle more, and the bullet blaster would be one of the easiest. Oh well, maybe a true MKDD scientist can tell me where I'm wrong.
