Title: Lost momentum on Rainbow Road:(
Post by Stephen De Winter on 05/24/21 at 23:08:47

Hi,
I stopped playing MKDD!! for almost 4 weeks straight. I was waiting 2 receive a Game Capture device and some other equipment 2 use with it 4 'better' proof. Like displaying the timer and fixing the camera behind me, (whilst racing around Rainbow Road and other maps instead of the fairly useless 'Replay' mode which doesn't display In Game Time IGT or the game's camera behind the characters).

Previously, I was pointing a Camcorder at the TV and hitting record 4 the 'Replay' mode. The Camcorder sat on a Tripod thingy.

Since I was at a point where I could challenge the 'overall' Aussie records on Rainbow Road (Course and flap) I wanted 2 submit stronger proof if I beat either or both.

Unfortunately, after making huge PROGRESS at Rainbow Road and being semi ready 2 challenge Alex 4 the Aussie records, I lost serious MOMENTUM after almost 4 weeks of inactivity:(

Since then, I have played Rainbow Road between 10-20hours across multiple play sessions, about 4 play sessions, I only scored Titan D on the Rainbow Course ONCE in my last 10-20hours since returning 2 Rainbow.

B4 waiting 4 my Game Capture device and other proof equipment, I was scoring Titan D about 20 times, (I'm guessing) and all my top 5 Course PRs were less than a single Mini Turbo MT away from sub 3mins which were ALL achieved b4, I lost my momentum.

Since returning, my Rainbow flap got to 0'59"6xx compared 2 my much better b4 flap PR of 0'59"365 I think my PR is need 2 check. Not sure of the milliseconds but, reasonably confident they're correct? Need 2 check my PR on my profile.

I'll keep trying 4 the 'overall' Australian records on Rainbow as, those two records r the ONLY chances I have at 'overall' Australian records on ANY MKPP.

I have a tied Site Record in SC on MKSCPP 4 Cheese Land glitch flap:) Due 2 the glitch I exploited my PR 'might' b perfect. There r tens of competitors who have tied my Site Record/I've their Site Record 4 Cheese Land glitch flap MKSCPP:) Due 2 it's glitch making my flap possibly, 'Perfect' I'm not sure it's worthwhile calling it a tied Site Record eventhough that's, technically true/accurate:)

I also had 21 NTSC Aussie records on SMKPP but, lost them 2 David. In saying this, ALL 80 of my SMK PRs r weak in comparison 2 the PAL Aussie records and David's now NTSC Aussie records.

Why am I saying all this? I am disappointed, I lost so much MOMENTUM on MKDD!! Rainbow Road because it's the ONLY map and ONLY MKPP where I have a chance at, 'overall' Aussie records.

My nearly 4 weeks of inactivity has strongly SET ME BACK with challenging Alex's Rainbow records. I had SUCH STRONG momentum b4 I stopped. I didn't think, I'd lose so much MOMENTUM after almost 4 weeke of inactivity:(

I just wanted 2 share that, I'm still trying 4 Rainbow Road Aussie records in AnyHz + 50Hz mode competitions. My setback has really messed up my momentum but, I'm trying!

Also, I'm tempted 2 play other games because I can DESTROY my world rankings at other MKPPs I'm worse at. I have easily played MKDD!! the most out of the MK games.

Part of me wants 2 keep challenging Alex at Rainbow Course and flap, part of me wants 2 quickly and easily improve at other MK games that I haven't played as much of yet.

Interestingly enough, my understanding of Rainbow's physics has gr8ly improved since returning after 'nearly' 4 weeks of inactivity. I understand the physics racing around Rainbow Road MKDD!! so much BETTER:) with the exception of utilising my first shroom when going 4 each flap that's worse, being much less consistent than b4. In multiple parts of Rainbow my knowledge has vastly improved in terms of understanding racing physics better than b4 I stopped for almost 4 weeks:)

This forum topic, 'Lost momentum on Rainbow Road:(' I am going 2 provide some links of videos of my gameplay footage on MKDD!! Rainbow since returning captured on my Game Capture device. They aren't my best PRs but r fairly close 2 it. Since returning with my Game Capture device and other proof equipment, I haven't set any new PRs:(

It could b awhile until I add ANY links of my videos in this forum topic, (a few weeks), I need help from my Tech Savvy Friday Disability Support Worker. He is showing/teaching me, how 2 use my new proof equipment:)

4 the past eleven years I just utilised Camcorders, mobiles, SD cards and computers. I am learning 2 use different proof equipment I've never used until now:)

Thanks 4 reading and goodluck with your PRs:)

I've been gaming for about 25 years and something that rings true is that it's usually good to break off and do some other track or challenge for a while to reset, and come back later. I wouldn't want to be doing the exact same thing over and over. When you come back to it later, your skills should still be there.

Makes sense.

In my last 10-20hours of play since returning, I got 3'00"450 from memory which I have on my Capture Game device so am getting closish 2 getting my full skill back:)

Somethings which I won't elaborate on which have impacted my play negatively 4 now until I recover r, when I first returned with my Game Capture device I played whilst my Disability Support Worker watched me race around Rainbow.

He watched me 4 the first maybe 30mins of my last 10-20hours because I wanted him 2 watch even though I don't fully concentrate properly when being watched or without being watched but whilst being watched I play a fair bit worse.

So, why did I want 2 b watched? 2 challenge myself but, I still couldn't handle the extra pressure I put on myself and got less and less confident seeing how I played because I didn't play in almost 4 weeks whilst being watched for the first half hour or so after returning.

Again, I don't want 2 elaborate, but I have felt some distress in life which may have impacted my play negatively.

I have my 3'00"450 I raced on Capture Game device 2 share when my Disability Support Worker helps me edit and upload the footage:)

I will probably continue 2 get stronger at Rainbow once I look after my mental health plus practice more but am getting semi close 2 where I was on Rainbow Road b4 I left with almost 4 weeks of inactivity.

I am learning that gamers and competitors don't lose their skills so it must b a wrong psychological approach I have taken and/or lack of practice 4 a few weeks, not playing at all until returning.

B4 I waited 4 my proof equipment I gained serious CONFIDENCE racing around Rainbow Road after messing up lots of Titan D runs. But started racing many successful Titan Ds b4 I stopped. It was all due 2 my psychological approach I took towards it. After awhile I learnt I can easily get Titan D and my goal is 2 get Titan B on the course and Titan D or C on the flap which if I take care of myself properly, (mental health) and practice enough it could happen in the future:) Now I have the Game Capture 2 properly prove any new future 50Hz PRs.

I don't know if there's a successful set up 2 get around it but, my proof equipment plays up when I set MKDD!! to 60Hz. It appears 4 now, I can ONLY prove 50Hz PRs set in the future:(

I haven't mentioned yet, my Game Capture device is HD equipment and I got another device 2 plug my AV colour cords into it and trick it into thinking GameCube and GameCube compatible Wiis r High Definition or whatever HD means when really they're AV cords. So I might not b able 2 video proof 60Hz PRs but that's better than not being able 2 prove 50Hz since 50Hz I play more of now 4 my slight advantage on MKDD!!PP competition.

I can prove, future 50Hz PRs in video and need 2 look into if 60Hz PR videos can b made with my equipment.

So, I will keep aiming 4 Rainbow Aussie records, 'overall' Aussie records but also will b playing more of the other MKPP competitions too. Not sure how much I will keep playing MKDD!! Rainbow but really want the Aussie records and should b able 2 eventually or semi quickly score them if I get my mind set right and keep trying.

As a competitor, I have noticed my psychological state either helps or makes things impossible until I get it right. It's crucial 2 get my mindset right when competing.

I agree, competitors don't lose their skills. It's my psychological approach that needs more consistency.

We've seen some cases of players returning after long breaks -- even years -- and doing the new bests. But not always. I'm sure I would be quite bad if I played now with my old bones etc.

While people r individual, we have some similarities as humans.

When it comes 2 competition, we all have different skill sets, levels of interest, levels of talent, levels of motivation and some have more opportunity than others.

Psychology will gr8ly work with or against competitors depending on our state's of mind.

Physical health is also very important in some competitions.

It's interesting 2 me that, some persons have extraordinary potential with no motivation and some have motivation 2 achieve gr8ness but lack extraordinary skill. Some persons have both motivation and extraordinary ability while some have neither. Multiple combinations.

People r complex. I believe people r good at different things dependent on the individual.

But extraordinary and even more successful, 'legendary' competitors STILL need 2 work SUPER, SUPER, SUPER hard at their natural talent/s.

Alex,

I was showing my Disability Support Worker our conversation in this topic and he saw your Linux joke/meme at the end of each of your posts and he found it very funny.

My Disability Support Worker explained the joke/meme which went over my head, 2 me.

New proof video with new proof equipment:) Very proud of this!!

Thanks 2 my Disability Support Worker 4 helping me set up, use and edit my video:)

This is NOT a new PR. I have 2 check my profile but am pretty confident my current 50Hz RR PRs r, 3'00"167 / 0'59"368

Very proud:) Thanks 4 reading and watching:)

Good quality capture. Looks like your best splits must be under 3 minutes, and you are very close to it.

Thanks:)

Yeah, my best splits r easily under 3mins:)

The problem is my lack of consistency.

It's such a big deal 2 me, wanting 2 get the Aussie records that I need 2 relax and play well. I am very close, just need 2 relax and calm down. It's my psychological approach that holds me back. Plus I need 2 play my very best because your PRs r SUPER STRONG Alex, well done!

Also, I played in the last two days and ONLY got Titan D again on Rainbow course once more. I am playing badly at the moment:(

I think I am putting 2 much pressure on myself 2 just score both or either Aussie record quickly from now and don't know how 2 adjust my psychological approach while I play. I am having a lot of difficulty with competition psychology while I compete mid race.

Thanks 4 your feedback:)

Whatever new PRs I manage 2 race or not race in future, congrats on your awesome PRs, good race on Rainbow either way:)
