Title: SMK SpeedGaming Tournament Season 2
Post by Lafungo on 05/15/20 at 04:20:48

KVD and I are happy to announce that signups for the second SMK SpeedGaming tournament are now open! After the success of the first one in NTSC GP150cc, we're now switching things up a bit with a PAL TT one-try tournament.

Signups will be open until the end of May.

As per last time, you can find the bracket (and rules) at https://challonge.com/smkspeedgamingseason2
All participants must join the SMK Community Discord: https://discord.gg/7MEeKaN
Upcoming matches can be found here: http://speedgaming.org/smk
Other relevant links will be added when available.

Here's a copy of the full rules (which you can also find in the Challonge tournament description).

Welcome to the second SMK tournament hosted by SpeedGaming! After the success of the first one in NTSC GP150cc, we're now switching things up a bit with a PAL TT one-try tournament.

Anyone is welcome to join! All you need to do is join the SMK Community Discord and contact either of the tournament admins, Lafungo and KVD, with the following information before the deadline of May 31 at 23:59 CEST:
- your username.
- your Twitch channel (streaming is required).
- your name on the Players' Page, if applicable.
- your country, if you're not ranked on the Players' Page.

Unlike the previous tournament, all participants are required to be present in the SMK Community Discord. Discord will be used for announcements throughout the tournament, and players will need to have Discord open during their matches for communication with their opponent.

If you will not be using direct game capture for your stream, you must inform a tournament admin when signing up. You will be asked to demonstrate your setup. If your stream quality is deemed to be too low, you will not be allowed to participate.

Game rules:
- Any official (PAL) release of the game is permitted (European/Australian SNES or Wii VC only), as well as SNES emulators that are generally accepted for speedruns (such as SNES9x v1.51+ and BSNES). Please note that if you're playing on emulator, you will need a PAL ROM, which is typically labelled [E].
- Participants must play in the Time Trial mode.
- Any character is allowed.
- NBT is allowed.
- Lapskips (manipulating the finish line trigger) are banned.
- The use of a CPU ghost (via the 2nd controller port) is banned.
- The use of a player ghost (indicated by a yellow track name) is banned.

Tournament rules:
- The tournament structure will be decided based on the number and composition of signups. The format will contain a possible round robin group stage and a guaranteed elimination bracket (either single or double) knockout stage.
- Players will be seeded based on their TT (http://www.mariokartplayers.com/smk/) rankings (with PAL rankings taking precedence over NTSC). If a player is not ranked, they will be unseeded and thus placed beneath all seeded players in the seeding list.
- Once a match pairing has been established, players will generally have until the end of the following week (Sunday night) to play their match. This deadline will be enforced more strictly for matches that represent a bottleneck for the tournament's progression.

Match rules (group stage):
- Every match will be played on all 20 tracks.
- Each point is decided based on the fastest completion of a single track using the in-game timer.
- A random order of tracks is generated by a third-party (typically one of the tournament admins).
- Players compete over all 20 tracks in the order provided by the third-party (with tracks being revealed one by one).

Match rules (knockout stage):
- Every match will be played as a first-to-9 (best-of-17).
- Each point is decided based on the fastest completion of a single track using the in-game timer.
- At the start of a match, the higher-seeded player bans one track. The lower-seeded player then bans one of the remaining tracks and picks another for the first round.
- The loser of the previous round picks one of the remaining tracks for the next round.
- The previous step is repeated until a player reaches 9 points.
