Title: Newbie Questions Post by CAUP on 05/29/18 at 14:44:45 Hey I just joined the forum. I have some questions. 1) Someone told me you can influence what items you get by observing where the roulette wheel is and starting to mash A accordingly. Is this true? Where can I read about this if so? 2) What determines the RNG of what items you get besides your place in the race? Does character matter? I mean besides special items of course. Does stage matter? Where can I read about RNG in this game? 3) When racing with four solo human racers on recommended items, I'm pretty sure you can only get lightning in fourth, right? Where could I confirm this? Also, can there only be one lightning and one blue shell out at a time? 4) How does the game keep track of laps, specifically backwards laps? For instance at the start of a race on baby park, you can go backwards at the beginning one lap and to get back to "zero" laps, you would need to do one lap forward. But how does the game store the value of laps you went backward? Could you get some stack overflow or something by going an absurd number of laps backwards? I mean the game can only use a finite amount of memory to tell how far backwards you have gone. Is there a cap or something? 5) On bowser's castle, to get the skip, you don't need to blow yourself up with a blue shell right? Technically anyone could send the shell? Thanks for the help and clarification! |

Have you ever considered the RNG could be time based? So it takes whatever the current time is and then a calculation is made from that to see how much RNG it gives you? Therefore if you started it at the right time you could manipulate the RNG. |

Title: Re: Newbie Questions Post by CAUP on 06/13/18 at 18:04:02 RNG is basically impossible to manipulate in real time in modern video games unless there is a mechanic specifically designed to manipulate it, like what this person was telling me existed. I assume someone has to have gone into the RNG of this game before. I'm just looking for information which should already be out there. |

What Gav posted is an infamous copy pasta in the MKDD community, so don't take it too serious. What you're assuming is wrong however. Nobody has bothered to really go in depth about this game in that aspect. To answer your questions: Quote:
no, you can only get them faster Quote:
Stage doesn't matter. Depends on game mode. Placement when you *get* the item is deciding factor. RNG rates are unknown. Quote:
Pretty sure I've seen lightning in 2nd place. Yes, only 1 person can hold that item. Quote:
Probably. As a kid I've gone backwards a bunch of times and you'd need to go the same amount of laps forward in order for them to "start counting" again. Has someone tested this cap yet? Nope. Quote:
It's about getting the air, not you throwing the blue shell. You could blow yourself up with a bob-omb. If you check out the Special Cup WR you can see a double Bowser Skip, one shell thrown by me, one by CPUs. |

Title: Re: Newbie Questions Post by CAUP on 06/13/18 at 21:34:11 Thank you for the responses and by the god of double dash no less : 0 Thank you for deconfirming RNG manipulation because I was beating someone in a money match and he won a game by a blue shell and claimed he used RNG manipulation lol. Glad that isn't real. I come from Super Smash Bros. Melee where the vast majority of technical aspects of the game have been studied to a stupid extent so I'm kind of just use to that I guess lol. Has anyone gone in and really examined the game's code? Thank you for answering my questions! |

Sadly, no. There's been a few people examining the MKDD game files (see: DouBOL Dash editor) but nothing much has come from it yet apart from showing where checkpoints are and other paths. :( |
