I got a "There was an error" message twice this week when I played DD. Both times, it worked when I cleaned the disk. Should I get a new copy of DD?

Not very helpful when the game doesn't tell you the error. Does it crash completely? I've been getting some crashes recently in a Switch game -- it just goes back to the switch menu and all progress lost. In my case it's not a dirty cartridge, simply bad programming, but in your case it sounds like a physical issue. Physical issues are the easiest to fix with a little bit of money.

Are you playing on GameCube or on Wii? If you're playing on a Wii and the error screen is black with white text, your disc drive may be damaged. (This is what happened to my original white Wii years ago)

Or, if you're playing on the Cube, does this happen with any other games you may have? Or is this something that's specific to Double Dash? I'm sorry, but saying "I got a 'There was an error' message" really isn't all that specific...
