Title: Capture card Post by TonyD on 01/17/17 at 02:02:04 I'm not seeing any recent topic about this so I thought I'd start a new one. Maybe other people are also interested in this. Also, don't forget I'm a total newb in the world of computers and technology ;) So for a while know I've been searching for a way to record videos and even maybe stream. I'm not looking for anything expensive cause I'm not a fulltime gamer, I only trip on MKDD [smiley=smokin.gif] I just like to get some videos up there to get advice from better players, maybe help filling the video list as I saw there are many Hero flaps missing. So I found some stuff online and I wandered if I could get some advice about this: http://www.ebay.com/p/Hot-Easycap-2-0-USB-Capture-Card-Audio-Video-VHS-to-DVD-Converter-Adapter/1986540898 Is this what I wanna buy in my case? As long as it's watchable it's good for me. I does seem cheap though and are there differences between al those cables in the list below? Thanks guys! |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by IsThatAGoodTime on 01/25/17 at 13:27:58 I haven't looked at the specifics of the exact product you linked, but it appears to be very similar to the devices others use to capture their gameplay. Keep in mind that you will not generally want to play while watching the game on your computer through the capture device. You can use a splitter to send the signal to both your capture device and TV, or play while recording on a VCR or similar device, then capture later. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Degausser on 01/25/17 at 18:13:43 Yeah it's better to record with a DVD Recorder, then hook that up to your usb device and record what you need onto your computer with a USB device. If you play and record at the same time, then the quality will be slightly degraded. This is what i do when recording, and the tv screen appears a little darker than normal. It doesn't effect my game play. To record at the same time (if you have no DVD/VHS recorder), you need something like this: https://www.amazon.de/DIGIFLEX-Cinch-Switch-Input-Anschl%C3%BCssen-DVD-Player/dp/B003R7ZSZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485396060&sr=8-1&keywords=digiflex+av You would hook your gamecube to the side with 1 set of ports, and connect it through to both your tv and usb connection. There is a switch that let's you select which set of AV connections you want to send the signal too. You can still receive a signal from more than one set of AV ports at the same time, it's just quality will be lost when the switch isn't pointing to additional outputs you're using. |

So instead of getting some splitters I should use this to preserve the quality? |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Gav on 01/26/17 at 14:31:33 I don't see how that device is going to help at all, that is for switching between different game consoles into one TV. You just need a normal capture card that has video pass through, so you have AV input with AV output & USB output. Something like an Elgato Game Capture HD. I use an Avermedia LGP which does PC free recording too, I think you must have component cables for that though. These devices do cost a bit more money but are a much better investment than trying to do it on the cheap. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Degausser on 01/26/17 at 14:50:21 These are basic choices: http://i.imgur.com/ElIm9Ki.jpg For the first choice: 2 wires. Your DVD Recorder would need an AV output. You can also go from GCN to tv to DVD Recorder, and in this case your tv would need an av output. For the second choice: 3 wires. Quality not as good, but works fine Edit because the item i posted maybe isn't good. I didn't realise there were 3 inputs and 1 output, and i'm not sure if it can be reversed. I use something similar to this, but it has 1 input and 2 outputs. It also has a switch, to select output 1 or 2. Although there is a bit of interference in quality, it's not enough to notice when playing or care when recording through the USB connection. Maybe 3 of these will do the job you want: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RCA-Phono-Y-Splitter-Converter-2-to-1-Female-Audio-Video-AV-Adaptor-GOLD-Adapter-/271407653986 |

Sure, if you ignore the choice that most people choose of opting to use a proper capture card which passes the video signal through to the TV as well as USB output. 527371776365657364160 wrote:
Sure, if you don't mind recording and playing with a very dark grainy picture. If you really want to use a cheap ass capture card with no video pass through you're going to have to buy a powered scart/composite switch to maintain your picture quality and they're not cheap. It's really not worth the hassle of trying to cut corners when you can simply buy a decent capture card that does everything you need. |

That was what I was going for... The video quality I get on OBS is not that bad, still would need those though to connect also with my TV as there is to much delay to play on PC. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Tazz on 01/27/17 at 01:18:45 I use a Dazzle + splitters for MKDD. 60hz output in Dazzle is black and white for me so I use Elgato +splitters for all other games I play. The splitters are different to dazzle splitters because they don’t have the same connection. If the game is HDMI then no splitters required. You need the double headed wires to split the image (red, yellow, white wire). Dazzle is much cheaper than a Elgato though but it still results in good quality video. |

Yes probably, I've used ones this shape (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2m-TRIPLE-3-Phono-STACKABLE-SPLITTER-Cable-Lead-Audio-Composite-Video-RCA-AV-OFC-/400746660302?hash=item5d4e5cc1ce:g:NRIAAOSwGvhT0TUK) before but it will probably do the same job. As I said earlier you will get degradation on both outputs because only half the strength of the signal will be reaching the capture card and only half will be reaching the TV so it will be a much darker image. To avoid degradation you'll need a powered splitter such as this sort of thing (https://www.amazon.com/RadioShack-1500320-Component-Distribution-Amplifier/dp/B010EIK6K6/ref=pd_cp_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B010EIK6K6&pd_rd_r=D6TEPECR9DSE2BJSZEQE&pd_rd_w=ta4Hb&pd_rd_wg=H75Rp&psc=1&refRID=D6TEPECR9DSE2BJSZEQE). Obviously this is more expensive. Probably go for the non-powered versions first and see how it looks. Adjusting the brightness settings on your TV may compensate enough. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by TonyD on 01/28/17 at 03:46:11 Okay thanks for all this info guys! Appreciate it! I'll try with the basic splitters and maybe later if i wanna keep making videos or stream I'll consider more expensive stuff. Next year i'll be working so it will be easier to buy some of this stuff ;) |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Colvin76 on 02/17/17 at 13:42:15 My Television screen brightness deteriorates by ~50% when my capture card is set up to my Wii (This problem is nonexistent on my Wii U, btw). This makes dark tracks like MuC and BC MUCH more difficult to play. I'd still want a vid so I just set up my capture card after the run and recorded the replay. I tried experimenting with the settings on my capture but nothing seems to prevent my TV form being darker. Should I buy another recording device or just record replays for MuC and BC? I currently use Elgato Game Capture HD which costed approximately $150. I'd want something else that's under $30. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by TonyD on 02/17/17 at 16:25:49 I'll be able to answer you monday if an easycap device is worth the shot ;) that's really cheap. I don't think replays are really worth recording though |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Colvin76 on 02/17/17 at 16:50:09 Thanks, Tony! I googled easycap and it's very cheap. under $10! I might be able to convince my dad to order me one. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by TonyD on 02/18/17 at 00:58:06 just know that it's probably not that good a quality :) no probs man! |

There are many settings for the elgato which can change brightness. In fact, I feel like if the TV automatically turns darker you might just want to turn off the contrast a little bit and just mess around in the graphic settings of the TV itself. |

Title: Re: Capture card Post by Colvin76 on 02/18/17 at 09:02:56 My remote for my CRT Television doesn't make any sense to me. I tried all the buttons although, nothing allows me to change the display, contrast, etc. I'll have to try the settings on my Elgato later. |
