My first goal of the year is to get all of my times (PAL and NTSC) ranked in the top 20 but my end goal for the year is to be dual time trial champion of the US  [smiley=smokin.gif].  Also I'm going to train my balls off for CDM.  It'd be nice to make it at least in the top 16 in all four modes  :D

My goal is not to have to play and still be US champ.

Title: Re: 2017 goals

^not gonna happen

My goal is to do a good AGDQ showcase, win a gold medal at a CDM tournament (statistically it's going to happen 1 year) and get some specific WRs that I want beaten.

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Chrissy on 01/03/17 at 00:50:57

^Is there a schedule already? Need to get some days off to watch it!

My goal is to find my motivation somewhere and finally get my arse up to get the german PAL crown. My motivation for NTSC is completely gone, though I still have 2 WRs I would like to achieve...

Finishing my SMK job with that goddamn 80th M+ would be enough as far as I'm concerned.

SMK will be at ungodly hours for the European public, but it'll be worth it.  ;)

Can you really take another quarter of a second off the PAL RR 5lap WR? Do we even know if it's possible? Has Sami set for us a Myth+ standard that actually cannot be reached?

You'll have to average less than 17"28 a lap, meaning that laps 2-5 will have to average, at the very least, Top 10 flap level (might as well say you'll be trying to get four Myth-level flaps in a row).

Possible? Most likely. Humanly possible? I guess the answer is "maybe" until the day that it becomes "yes". Somebody might have even driven a 1'25"xx with TAS, but we're talking about human reflexes acting in real time.

I believe there still remains some unreached God standards in a few other Mario Kart games as well.

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Antistar on 01/03/17 at 02:36:30

Yes, it's possible, I know that I can get a high 1'26"4x at the moment, so if I do it I'll obviously have the ghost to go after the M+. That's the way WRs are pushed further away. ;)

GP:
No particular goal
Remain #1 on PAL OPEN and NBT
Remain #1 on NTSC OPEN and NBT

TT:
NTSC: reach #3 overall while Chris is not motivated  ::)
PAL: reach #4 before Aron comes back

CDM:
Keeping my title would be very hard but really cool.
On a softer approach, a medal in BM (gold this time, tired of losing against geo on the last balloon two years in a row.)
Adding to that a medal in a 2P racing mode would be perfect.

For those who want specific WRs (Karel, Chris): please specify :)

Antistar, good to see you still have the last Myth+ time in your mind. It will be a mythical (pun intended) achievement. How long since the last "first" Myth+? In any case, will it have been the hardest WR or it's just the way the standard was set up?

For me, the goal will be to reach the top 100 in NTSC (#106 right now), and make some progress on PAL, perhaps under 120 (#129 now).

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Jet Stevens on 01/03/17 at 13:39:17

First off I agree Anti can accomplish the final myth plus as difficult as it seems, he is the man for the job.   My goals for the year are getting all my times in the top 20-25, and get a myth + time, while finding a way to spend more time with my son, between work, and SMK. Hopeful to get an honorable mention next year too,   ::).

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Lafungo on 01/03/17 at 14:04:24

Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll be able to play much SMK this year (if at all), but assuming I do get the opportunity to play, my (NTSC) goals are to stay in the USA Top 3 and have at least 5 CRs at the end of the year.

I'm the one who set the last "first" M+, it was VL2 f-lap in October, 2014. I had also hit the BC2 5-lap one just before. If I'm correct I've also hit all the ones that had not been hit when I became #1 in PAL (GV1, GV2, BC2, BC3 5-laps), which helped to get a much lower AF and keep my title much longer than expected.

EDIT: I know it's always good to see that I still have it in my mind, but to be honest, it would be so ridiculous to stop at 79/80 M+ times. Even if I'm kinda retired from SMK I just cannot stop thinking about it.

Thanks for the answers.

Good. As much as people love that race, there aren't many of us in position to reach that milestone.

At the same time, having this unreached goal is positive for the excitation in SMK in general.

Title: Re: 2017 goals

By the way, since I'm too lazy to check this: has any MK player reached all GODs on a specific Players Page, or could SMK be the first one where someone achieves this?

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by KVD on 01/04/17 at 12:12:06

Some MKs have really poor and outdated standards, I believe there are like 25 MK64 overall GODs for example.  [smiley=lolk.gif]

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Lafungo on 01/04/17 at 12:26:38

MK64 has 23 Non-SC and 6 SC Gods, of which 5 are both (aka Universal Gods).

MKSC has 1 Non-SC God.

MKDD has 8 Gods in terms of ARR, but only 6 of those have 32/32 Gods (this is possible due to the God+X system, which gives negative ARR).

MKDS has 7 Non-PRB Gods.

None of the others have overall Gods (MK8 doesn't even have standards yet).

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Chrissy on 01/04/17 at 14:39:26

^Everyone in MK8 is a GOD!

On the other side, reaching all Myth+ in SMK would make me the only person with an overall GOD status in 2 MKs... but then, there's stuff like BC2 [smiley=chairshot.gif]

Good point. I have always been a TT player, so those real improvements were not relevant to me.
I'm sure that MK64 and the later versions are more fun than SMK for casual play with friends. And it was probably Nintendo's goal too.

My first contact (2001) was pretty cool and I kinda enjoyed it, but switched back to SMK rather quickly in the summer of 2002, after I had felt I had done everything I wanted on that episode, and also because I was expecting MKDD – which I bought day one. After a few weeks (months?) I just wanted to come back to MK64, lol.

No, me too!! I loved MKDD and after that returning to SMK was even more loveable.. Then at some point I wanted the classic MK title and gave MK64 another shot.. I have to say, besides the fact I puked a lot it wasn't that bad when seriously trying.. then i realized I was just a noob and gave it up.. Now it makes me puke again when I see that dusty shitty console in my room  ;)

Title: Re: 2017 goals
Post by Humanoidgale on 01/05/17 at 15:33:04

Well unfortunately I never had a N64 so I missed out on a lot of good classics (Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario Kart 64, Golden Eye, etc.).  With that being said, I definitely had friends who had N64s but I just never got into Mario Kart 64 as much as they did.  As Aaron said, probably because I was such a noob so I always got my ass kicked.  That aside, even back when the game came out I thought that it looked like shit and I still think so today.  But I'm with Fabrice, the game does seem to have the biggest fan following so I'm sure that I could find joy playing it if I ever gave it a chance which won't be happening anytime soon if ever.

You first played MK64 in 1996 the Japanese version?
The game was never released before June 24, 1997 in Europe and I brough this game day 1, I passed my French high-school diploma during the same week between June 23-26, and all I did these nights was playing MK64 instead of revising ;D

I don't have much love for that game either, especially the controls.  I  would like to congratulate Fabrice on making the top 100, with superb non- NBT driving! My goal for 2017 is more than likely not going to happen as far as reaching the top 20, as I'm about to start training on PAL for the upcoming CDM. Hey hey, thanks to the 3 'mericans for your congratulations, it means a lot. It's funny because when I improved my BC1 I checked the potential ranking just for fun, and I saw I was exactly tied with "Josh Stevens" (hey Eric, stop spoofing people's names  ;D ;D ;D) I didn't expect it to hold because Richard Lefint is pushing hard on NTSC as well, and should overtake me soon. Btw, we should ban people from Europe from the NTSC rankings, I lost so many ranks in the past months (Jarmou, Jerome JDR, Christopher Smith, etc.) .

In any case, I'm happy with that milestone, and look forward to having a rank in the double digits :)

Of course, 'grats to Matt for the top 20, but he's already #16 in PAL, so no surprise here.

Congrats also to Jordan who, like me, progresses slowly but "Shirley". Soon he will reach the top 200:D

2017 TT targets achieved and surpassed (as far as PAL is concerned) :P

I'll add a target on MC2 NTSC WRs for the period post-CDM
- try to beat the flap WR from Marisa (11"20 if I recall correctly)
- try to get closer to the 59"xx barrier (1'00"xx at least) on the 5laps

Yeah I didn't experiment MC2 NTSC the way I did it on PAL yet.
I know I have at least a sub 1'00"5x potential and 11"2x.

But I reckon 59"x and 11"1x might be hard, but who knows  :P I actually didn't think 12"0x would be reachable so quickly on PAL !
