Title: Did Mike Bachiller cheat? Post by xytheon on 10/18/16 at 13:19:43 Race to the 2nd coin on WP: The first number represents the last frame where the player only has one coin, and the second number represents the first frame where the player has two coins, meaning that the player got the coin somewhere in between these two numbers (60 fps footage): 0:02.256 - 0:02.277 - Mike 0:02.271 - 0:02.289 - K4I (.923 run) 0:02.275 - 0:02.294 – Danny 0:02.276 - 0:02.293 - Mastermind (.816 run) 0:02.278 - 0:02.292 - Domy (.770 run) 0:02.279 - 0:02.286 - J 0:02.279 - 0:02.295 - Diogo 0:02.298 - 0:02.301 - Domy (.831 run) - misses a slide, so kinda irrelevant imo 0:02.299 - 0:02.304 - Kamek (.424 run) The duration of the frame itself varies, but this paints a picture for me. He hasn’t gained .015 on K4I already though. He is ahead, but the frame stops Mike just a tiny bit further back than K4I, which makes it seem like a bigger difference than it actually is. Let’s say he gains like .005-.010 per two seconds or something. That’s a 0.5 % - 1 % increase in speed (WR on WP is roughly 100 seconds, which makes the math easier). Hard to notice unless you’re driving straight for a while, right? A 0.5 % - 1 % speed increase saves .250-.500 on a full run on WP. He already had 1:39 potential, which means that the increase needed would be within that scale. Even though Mike is great at Water Park, how is it that he manages to outdrive all these players who has a combined total of 529 WRs between them so clearly in that short of a time? We’re talking about 2 seconds of very basic Mario Kart here (which all of these other players in theory should be just as good or better at than him) and he’s already ahead of all of them by a clear amount while the rest are almost inseparable. Here’s some gameplay of Danny racing Mike and Mastermind on WP, make of it as you will (spoiler alert: Mike gains every time, but keep in mind, we’re talking about marginal gains here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1B-y3XNvDA Inconsistencies regarding Miiverse posts: Scroll through Mike’s Miiverse timeline and look for time trial posts without a screenshot attached. You’ll find three straight away, one being his Water Park WR, one being his 4th worldwide run on DS and the third being a Water Park PR a week prior to WR’ing. However, if you continue scrolling down his profile you’ll struggle to find any other instances. In fact, I had to scroll through about 450 posts (all the way to 11th of November 2015) to find another instance of it happening, and that was on a re-post of a PR that had already been posted with a screenshot attached to it, so that one doesn’t even really count since I’m looking for a connection error. Finally, after scrolling through a total of 1000 posts I found three time trial posts right after one another without a screenshot attached, dated 8th of April 2015. That is 18 months ago. Not a single instance of it happening since then until he improved on WP, then WR’d on the same track shortly after and lastly got tops on DS. The latter two are by far his strongest times to date. That’s one hell of a coincidence right there. Adding to that, he actually streamed both of his top 10 runs on Dolphin Shoals (1:57.706 and 1:57.505) on Twitch. His explanation on how he could stream consistently without any buffering or lag while at the same time not being able to upload screenshots until the day after, was (according to him) due to him having a hotspot set up on his PC. Apparently his router was having issues, but the thing I don’t get is why his Wii U wouldn’t be able to connect to that hotspot. When WR’ing on Water Park he said he had to run to the neighbour and borrow their internet to upload the Miiverse post, which is weird, but possible, I guess. Sure, that’s not an impossible scenario, but what struck me as weird was not only how short the two streams were (30 minutes and 15 minutes), but he never pressed A to take him past the screen that shows his splits after finishing a run. Instead he reacted in chat for a few minutes and then turned off the stream. I’ve watched a lot of people PR on stream before, but I’ve never seen anyone shut off the stream before uploading a Miiverse post. Now I’ve seen it twice in one day. You can probably see where I’m going with this. There’s this hacking tool that freezes your Wii U when going past that screen – and Mike shut off the stream before that could happen in both cases. That’s another coincidence noted down. To raise even further suspicion, his MKU scores have been really strong lately and there’s a lot of doubt in the online community regarding the validity of him achieving that without cheating. Also keep in mind that Mike has a history of cheating in MK8. He has manipulated top 10 leaderboards by getting other players to create alternate accounts in his name and set times for him as well as physically having a friend set a top 10 time at his house. Now, his past doesn’t make him guilty of anything regarding the case at hand, but it’s worth to keep it in mind when you're judging his character in this context. Mike shutting off stream 1:57.505 DS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RT-38ODRcs Mike shutting off stream 1:57.706 DS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnMzwRLQtCI Although his streams were consistent and not laggy, they were of very poor quality. A quality so bad that it was hard to locate the ghost he was racing (Naoto’s 1:57.721 run) on Dolphin Shoals a lot of the time, but I did find one interesting part in his 1:57.706 run that I decided to make a slow motion GIF out of: https://gyazo.com/9db8608e0100cd97ee2a5073426a75bb His lines are comparable to Naoto’s there as far as I can tell, but it’s almost as he has more coins than him. It’s not hard evidence in itself, but it’s a little piece of the puzzle nonetheless. Supplementing that, here’s some footage of Danny racing Dolphin Shoals WR holder Darren and then Mike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d4Z8j-OOqU Pay attention to how Danny manages to keep up with Darren consistently up until the first ramp while Mike always breaks away. To illustrate what I mean, take a look at these screenshots: Danny vs. Darren: https://gyazo.com/a1adb177718df3d054e9e6f25468e96c https://gyazo.com/2804dd04d40f211cde8b158e002916aa https://gyazo.com/385acb3f0673d4e8d1b42dc2270716fd Notice that they’re so evenly matched that it’s hard to even spot Darren’s ghost. Danny vs. Mike: https://gyazo.com/b3b6383388d411868e83ccb10279fb3a https://gyazo.com/3e89ee53ad8c3a9a92bf44e35a9f4c7a https://gyazo.com/c09b36a9aaaff593e27f03d338bcaa16 Mike is a little bit further ahead on the last screenshot due to Danny messing up the entry hop into the underwater section, but look at Mike’s lead on the other two screenshots. I was about to wrap up this post when I stumbled upon the most crucial piece of evidence so far. Mike claims to have had internet issues at the time of uploading PRs from WP and DS, right? And he hasn’t been able to upload a Miiverse post with a screenshot attached to it because of these issues, but he has been able to stream his attempts on DS due to him having a Wi-Fi hotspot set up on his PC. His Wii U, however, did not have internet access. Or so he claimed… It suddenly hit me that if he was lying about that, he might have made a mistake in one of his streams. I was originally looking for a place where he had pressed the home button and a pop-up notification letting him know that one of his friends had come online or something like that, but what I found instead was just as good, and it only took a minute of the stream until I had what I was looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vHMsaIKDls He was able to download Miiverse posts from the DS top 10 while claiming to have no internet access! Ask yourself this: Why would someone lie about having internet access on his Wii U, end stream before progressing to the screen that would freeze your Wii U if a hack was installed and make up an excuse for not having screenshots tied to your Miiverse posts? Now, there’s circumstantial evidence and there’s hard evidence. I feel I’ve presented a bit of both here, but the thing that matters is how the community judge it. So to sum it up shortly: 1. He beats every other elite time trialer comfortably to the 2nd coin for no apparent reason on Water Park. 2. Former Water Park WR holder Danny can keep up with Mastermind to the stairs every time, but Mike not even once. 3. He hasn’t had a connection error in 18 months, but has coincidentally gotten it on all of his suspicious runs. 4. While streaming his two top 10 runs on Dolphin Shoals, he ended the stream on both occasions without progressing past the screen that shows your splits. If a hack was used, the Wii U would freeze by doing that. 5. Even though he claimed he had no internet access on his Wii U, he somehow managed to download Miiverse posts from the Dolphin Shoals top 10 leaderboard while streaming his 1:57.505 run. 6. Very high MKU scores lately. 7. His history of having other players get top 10s for him. 8. He gains on Naoto in the GIF linked above. 9. Danny keeps up with Darren to the first ramp of DS consistently, but could never touch Mike’s pace. It’s a no-brainer for me, which is why I put a lot of effort into this, but ultimately it’s not up to me to decide what will happen from here. Thanks to Danny and Simon for helping me.
