Title: Mini-turbos Post by Connor on 02/26/15 at 21:12:56 Can someone please explain to me how to do mini-turbos in this game? I've tried doing them the way you do them in Mario Kart Wii. That works sometimes and it's completely random when it does. I've tried doing them the way you do them in Mario Kart 64, and that didn't go well at all. Can someone please help me? |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Shock on 02/26/15 at 21:17:40 You have to maintain the direction of your drift for >60 frames (about 1.5 seconds), then when you straighten out the MT will release. If you hop soon after it releases, you will lose a significant portion of the speed boost. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by .Hahaae on 02/26/15 at 21:18:06 Jump, hold R in the direction you're drifting for about 1.5 seconds, then release R. Easiest way to get the MT out is to countersteer or neutral hop. Blue boost should appear. It's weird at first but then it gets really easy. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Connor on 02/26/15 at 21:41:50 So it is like Mario Kart Wii? |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by .Hahaae on 02/27/15 at 06:21:38 Sorta, not really. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Lafungo on 02/27/15 at 06:29:24 The main difference with MKW is that you have to hold the same direction the entire time you're charging the MT, if you start charging a MT with a drift in one direction, switching to the other direction will restart the MT charge. |

According to one of my old forum posts, you have to slide for about 1.03 seconds to get an MT (but you can't repeatedly MT every 1.03 seconds because it charges up slower when you're in the middle of an MT). |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Lafungo on 02/28/15 at 05:34:25 Can you link to the post, Fried? This is the first I hear of MTs charging slower under certain circumstances. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Etch on 02/28/15 at 06:18:02 It be great if you guys stopped giving new people wrong information! http://i.imgur.com/wfsCNZu.png (http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1165198569/0) |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Chris on 02/28/15 at 06:21:59 But tbh, it makes sense, sometimes I felt my MTs need more time to load... Never heard it before though. And Andy... Well over a second to charge eh..? Guess My guess was closer to what Fried posted.. |

Yeah, the 1.03 seconds thing is why I said ">60 frames", but then I followed up with "about 1.5 seconds" to give a ballpark amount of time you should drift to get an MT. I thought it'd be better to give a guestimate that pretty much guarantees MT success to the OP than to clutter with details, because there's no need for them for such a beginner player who doesn't even know how the style differs compared to the other games. I don't think we gave the OP "wrong" information. :-? Also, if people want more information, click Etch's image because the link is "hidden" there, easy to miss. Chris, I think it takes about 1.5 seconds or so to load a ZZMT lap 1 after the starting boost. That's one of the ones where it takes longer due to boosting circumstances. Normally, it definitely is closer to 1 second, like you can see in some of the MTs in this run (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc1dm9Cdiig). |

Yep, same, I've always found the difference noticeable. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Connor on 03/09/15 at 14:39:01 So it's like Mario Kart Wii without changing directions while drifting? There is nothing you can do to charge it faster? You just have to hold a drift for a certain amount of time? Also, how do you do mini turbos on straightaways? They are done in a lot of the world record videos? |

It's not possible to charge it under 1 second, yes. You can change direction while you drift and technically do mts in straight, but you need a modded handheld for that. Don't bother with this anytime soon. |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by tmp7031 on 09/08/17 at 12:37:47 So all records are done on modded handhelds? |

Title: Re: Mini-turbos Post by Mr.Nosey on 09/09/17 at 04:59:02 Yes - wherever MTs are found in a WR. So for example, rKB1 and RR WRs don't have MTs in them, so having a modded console has no influence on the WR. I always felt it was silly that the charts were not separated, which is why I finally made nonzzmt.com to track unmodded times (it's not 100% accurate atm). Also now that mkwrs.com has non-prb times for mkds, if we ask nicely maybe we can get nonzzmt wrs on the site too. |
