Title: Time to say hi to you all!
Post by Yoshistar™ on 02/18/15 at 04:23:59

First post in the MKSC section :o

Some of you might know me from MK64, MKDS and/or MK7, but just in case:

Hi I'm Michael Arends and I got MKSC last week, I don't know how to reset data, but since I'm lazy to unlock cups (they're all unlocked), I don't mind much ;D

I have no clue about which character is the quickest in the entire game, I use Yoshi atm.

I'm playing on a blue SP, feels great and already hitting nice Advanced time on PC 3lap with 50.60 (set today), I'll try to get all times at Advanced level, probably a longshot, but worth trying hehe....

One question: ZZMTs, how do I those??

Looking forward how I will do in this game! :)

Character: Bowser in general, DK/Wario on a couple tracks

Zzmts: They occur when you turn both left & right to do an MT; requires a modded D-Pad so you can switch left/right w/o giving neutral input, which would cancel the MT.

If your PC was advanced you'll likely place around 90th if you expend similar effort on other tracks. All-advanced is ~70th iirc.

Good luck; it's always good to see new players on this game!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hey Yoshistar, great to see you playing MKSC!

For character selection, learn how to use Bowser as soon as possible. He's by far the best character overall, although there are a couple tracks where DK is better and/or easier.

As for ZZMT, forget about it until you're at least Top 20. There's no need to even consider it until you're a strong Non-ZZMT player.

Hey Yoshistar, good to see another player joining the game!

Like Lafungo says, don't worry about ZZMT yet. Enjoy getting used to the mechanics first.

Best of luck!  [smiley=beer.gif]

Yo Michael! Good to see you here :) in case you want to see how ZZMTs work (and you will probably not hit the TOP20 very soon I assume ;D) I can bring my both GBA SPs to the meet in Solingen, of course if you are there aswell! It's always nice to see what it feels like. I had big problems to get ZZMTs (well NBTs as my first encounter with this kind of MTs was in SMK) because I was not used to it and barely did them right. So better keep playing without them until you get the hang of Non-ZZMT driving. Most Retro flaps don't even need ZZMT anyway, so there's a few tracks where you can already get some high ranks if you put the effort in 8-)

Have fun!

Always good to see another MKSC player!

Not bad for a first time, you've got potential. As it has been stated, start learning how to use Bowser as soon as possible. He feels weird at first. Something that helps with Bowser is to counter-steer after a drift to avoid sliding.

Best of luck.

Welcome. :)

As others have said, switch to Bowser immediately, and don't worry about ZZMT. Get used to the game's mechanics, watch videos, and ask for advice.

In this game there are a variety of strats to learn that allow longer times spent at higher speeds (water/snow drifting, primarily), and in this game tightness and well-executed shrooms are vital. Also, there will be courses where you probably won't have the skill yet to do the WR strat (CCI, RR, etc.) Be a little creative first with your own ideas before checking videos, and check a variety of times to see the different strats/styles!

Hi there! :)

Btw Michael, in case you want to know how MTs work in this game, you need to drift for a specific amount of frames to get an MT loaded. The time is around 1 second that you need to drift and steer (R + D-Pad either left or right). You need to drift continously or else the MT loading will reset to 0. However, ZZMT, as Leone already mentioned, makes it possible to steer to the other direction within a drift, as you file down the d-pads middle point (or you are lucky and got a natural ZZMT d-pad like me :D), so that the game doesn't register a change of the original direction you chose to start the drift.

As an example: Let's say you start a right faced drift  = R+RIGHT

In case of Non-ZZMT:

You keep the drift for enough frames: Sucessful MT
You do not keep the drift long enough or change the direction before it's fully loaded: No MT

In case of ZZMT:

You keep the drift long enough: Successful MT
You steer to the other direction and drift long enough (let's say R+RIGHT>LEFT>RIGHT: Successful MT
You steer to the other direction but do not hold the drift long enough (same example as above, but in a shorter timespan): No MT
You load the MT with a R+RIGHT>LEFT>RIGHT>LEFT movement, but hit the sand/grass inbetween: No MT (unless: a grass/sand hit can kill the MT, in rare cases, for example retro Mario Circuit 4 at the 2nd last U-Turn of the lap you can drive through the sand without killing the MT, just getting a pretty hard slowdown)

The most efficent way is to not hit grass/sand at all of course, but especially this corner is a killer and for not so advanced players I'd recommend using the slowdown-way. How much you need to not get the MT after a sand hit I can't say exactly, but only a short hit can be enough, so beware the offroad! :D

Hope this explains a bit and makes you understand the whole thing a bit better in the later phases ;) ofc you can always ask if you are curious about anything you don't understand^^

Chris, there are 6 frames per .1 second (classified explanation used to be here). You also need to be drifting for 61 frames to get an MT, so if you do the math this means you have to drift for longer than a second, not .7-.8.

Thanks for the insight, fixed it ;)

Ah okay, thanks guys!

Yeah I figured the MT thingy, my best 1 shroomer is 16.68, so I have room for improvement :)
