Title: The next set of DLC tracks...
Post by Saint Nicholas de la USA on 02/04/15 at 18:10:27

Those of you who have purchased the first set of DLC tracks, the Egg and Triforce Cups released last November, may know that a second set, containing two new cups, Crossing and Bell, will be released this coming May.

I checked Mario Kart 8's Wikipedia article (which seriously needs to be trimmed) as well as Mario Wiki, and it appears that we still don't know the identities of the eight upcoming tracks. In fact there's a thread on the game's GameFAQs message board in which users are trying to guess what the tracks will be.

I do have a few ideas of what we could see, though. These are just guesses on my part, and I'd like to hear yours as well. We know there's probably going to be an Animal Crossing course, but how about...

-SNES Mario Circuit 4: The only one of SMK's four Mario Circuits that has not appeared as a Retro track in the games from MKDS onward. It'd look great in 3D for sure. It's a twisty track but still fairly simple, so it might be the first track in the cup it appears in. Donut Plains 2 or one of the Bowser Castles could work as well, if they could be overhauled to accommodate MK8's new mechanics.

-N64 Wario Stadium: This is now the only MK64 track that hasn't reappeared in any later game. All those ramps would be great for doing tricks. The big jump near the end could become a hang-glide. This is a long track, the second longest in MK64, so I don't know whether it would be 3 laps (with the track being possibly scaled down), or one long lap (as in N64 RR). And, of course, all the walls would need to be made taller so that they cannot be jumped (or just put invisible walls above all of them...)

-GCN Wario Colosseum: This would be perfect for MK8! With the way it twists all over the place, MK8's anti-gravity gimmick could be put to good use. Mushroom City is another MKDD track that might work if a few new gimmicks are introduced, while that game's Rainbow Road might be a good final track for Bell Cup.

-Death Mountain: From the Legend of Zelda series. Drivers would dodge rolling boulders (and maybe even Gorons) while driving up steep hills. Maybe we could have an occasional volcano eruption dropping flaming rocks on the track, which drivers would have to avoid. We could then complete the lap with a hang-gliding segment back to the bottom of the mountain. This could be a challenging course and I think the Ocarina of Time version could convert well into a Mario Kart track (with a little redesigning).

Other Zelda locales could have some decent MK8 tracks made out of them, including Kakariko Village, where the track would meander between buildings, or Lake Hylia, a new water track (one of the hazards could be those nut-spitting Octorocks!).

Also I think at least one MKSC track should be redone MK8-style. It could be one like Riverside Park, Boo Lake, or Sunset Wilds. Ribbon Road could also be nice because of its zipper gimmick, and the jump near the start of the lap could be replaced with a hang glide.

Let's use our imaginations, everybody, and try to think of good ideas for new MK8 tracks, which may be the same ideas that Nintendo has thought of.  :D

I think we will see at least one Animal Crossing themed track, rather at least two, since both cups will be Animal Crossing-themed. I did not play any AC game, so I don't know which locations might be used... GCN Wario Colosseum is very likely to happen. Nintendo fails from time to time, but everyone must see how well this tracks fits to the MK8 anti-gravity system. Don't mess this up, Big N ;D

I hope for a track like GBA Bowser Castle 3 from the Wii. It was by far the most played track (online) in MKW and I miss a most-popular track like that in MK8. Maybe GBA Bowser Castle 4? ::)

I think that gcn BP and 3ds NBC were found in game files. For another retro I wouldn't mind seeing DS DS (again) or wii DDR

What I would love to have in the 2nd DLC :

From MK64 : Koopa Troopa Beach
from MKSC : Cheese Land, Ribbon Road
from MKDD : Bowser's Castle, Rainbow Road, Dino Dino Jungle, Wario Colloseum, Daisy Cruiser, Waluigi Stadium
From MKDS : Waluigi Pinball, Airship Fortress, DK Pass
From MKW : Bowser's Castle, Toad's Factory ( even if I don't really like the course on MKW,I think it could become good seeing how much funnier WGM is on MK8 compared to MKW to me. )
From MK7 : Neo Bowser City, Bowser's Castle

From The Legend of Zelda : Temple of Time ( Twilight Princess ) , Lake Hylia ( Twilight Princess ) , Lanayru Desert ( Skyward Sword ) , Temple of Shadow ( Ocarina of Time ) , Palace of Twilight ( Twilight Princess )

Most are chosen because of the music or just because I really enjoyed seeing those tracks ( or temples ) in game.

About Lanayru Desert,if it ever comes in the game, it should be a section track aswell. People that played Skyward Sword can understand why I'm saying this right now I think :P

This is an unsourced (so most likely fake) information that was posted on GameFAQs' Mario Kart 8 board; the fact that it says “NeoBowserCity” instead of the actual Japanese name (Neo Koopa City (http://www.mariowiki.com/Neo_Bowser_City)) pretty much discredits it.

2 retro tracks confirmed for the second DLC Pack *MAJOR spoilers* (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/700050-mario-kart-8/70566489)

as much as i love WC (fav track) I'm a doubter because we have 3 Wario tracks already.

Bowser track would make sense.

As for Death Mountain I don't see a track with the word Death making a MK game lol.

I can see 3DS BC coming back. It would work well with this game.

What do you guys think of 3DS Rock Rock Mountain? (:
I would looooove to see it in the DLC pack!

Anti Graphity could work well in this track!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

all the gliders would kill the track since you can't do anything cool with them in this game

I was about to say hell yes!  But Darren is right, MK8 gliding is so slow, boring and dumbed down.  :(

I'd like to see WC from MKDD or maybe 3ds RR/BC.

sunset wilds, also maybe MCT from mkdd
mk8 also lacks a flat BC, so one from smk would be cool i guess

I'm hoping for Moonview Highway from mkw. Mk8 so far has only one car track (rTT  :( ) and it being the most hated track in the game, I feel like there might be a second car track in pack 2. Moonview Highway would be awesome with all the boost pads and fire hopping on them, as well as dodging the cars. It's also a wide track so bumps might not be so cancerous lol...

i want to see a Metroid themed track. they already did one Zelda and one F-Zero track.

There are rumours about a direct... on the 1st April. I think it is fake...

'MK8 DLC Pack 2 will launch on May 7th 2015. Trailer shown, Software-Update will launch on the same day with the following new features: Time laps on tv, seperate screens for local 2 player games: One on the GamePad, one on the TV, new amiibo costumes.'

Maybe...

Direct on April 1st is confirmed now. Though I doubt some of those rumored features. Only one that seems possible is new Amiibo costumes. Definitely expect to see a Villager costume.

Don't worry, it was confirmed fake by the leaker himself earlier (before the official announcement lol). The original source was a Google+ post so it was extremely fishy to begin with, to say the least, but I wanted to make things clear : we cannot tell for sure what will be in the direct, or even if there will be MK8 info (really doubtful, but eh).

Anyway... now that retro tracks can come back more than one time (not counting MKSC), most tracks can actually get in the pack at this point, even if some are more likely that others.
For example, I doubt we'll get another Wario or RR track since there are already 3 in the game counting the released DLC. However a Bowser track seems quite reasonable to guess as we still haven't gotten a retro Bowser track yet (and there are many candidates).
To note as well, the retro tracks from the first DLC are all from console games, so the other DLC could easily have at least 1 or 2 tracks from handheld games. There are many good tracks from those games, also there's only 1 GBA track so far!
Other factors that could play in track choice include popularity and ease to (re)make. SNES Rainbow Road fits the bill for both really well which is most likely why we got it a 4th time.

About the new tracks, we could get other franchise-themed tracks besides Animal Crossing, if the first DLC is anything to go by. It's important to note though that all said franchises were created by the Nintendo EAD teams, so we should expect a similar trend (e.g. Metroid is a good guess, Kirby or Pokémon not so). We could also get none, as well, which I wouldn't mind, since the OC tracks from the first DLC were really nice and much more fun than Excitebike Arena.

This is all assuming they go with the 5 new/3 retro scheme, which I think works out well for a paid track pack (I'd rather have many new tracks for my buck).

Wishing personally for a decent GBA track (Ribbon Road, Yoshi Desert, Cheese Land) but I'm not holding my breath. I'll also happily take something like GCN BC, DS MC, or Rosalina's Ice World, or even Waluigi Pinball again.

I'm assuming time trials and online play will still be in 150cc though, right? It would be weird if they switched it around after the game came out.

You can Streetle and City Tripper throughout the video. There also appears to be new wheels on Streetle, like at 0:11, a new glider at 0:25, and are those also a new set of tires at 1:00-1:01?

TTs should still be 150cc, but I believe 200cc will be available online.

If TTs are 200cc then goodbye to this game.

If it's an option we will have 96 tracks to TT ( if PP allows to add all of them but still,personally,I WILL play every course ) but if it's not,leaderboards will be screwed up completely for at least a week lmao.

200CC is by far the most unexpected thing that i saw from the direct. Can't wait April 23rd now,more than never...

I can confirm that dRiR is indeed the identity of that track. The path is warped and almost unrecognizable, but it's RiR all right.

dWW = Wild Woods (known as Nature Road but Wild Woods is the EU name)
dSBS = Super Bell Subway (known as Ling/Ring Metro, Super/Bell Subway is the EU name)
Source for these: http://nintendoeverything.com/mario-kart-8-second-dlc-pack-details-baby-park-is-7-laps/
And also Ninty UK's channel that uploaded all the other DLC footage.

dAC= Animal Crossing
dBB = Big Blue
dCL = Cheese Land
dNBC = Neo Bowser City
dRiR = Ribbon Road
dBP = Baby Park, with 7 laps as the article above states.

This pack feels kind of "meh" to me. Apart from Neo Bowser City I'm disappointed by the selection of the retro tracks. I mean there are so many great tracks from the old MKs which could be in MK8 (**cough** WC **cough**), but Nintendo decides to use Baby Park yet again -__- This track is going to be more broken than Excitebike Arena in terms of hopping.

But oh well, the four new courses look overall solid, so it's not that bad I guess...

Another thing which I think hasn't been posted here yet: There will be no possibility to TT the 200ccm mode (and thus practice strats). I'm not sure if I like this or not. It's nice for people who play online only anyway as they can fully concentrate on that, but I would prefer to build up some skill before going online...

I completely agree! Why not bring back Wario's Colloseum...? That would work sooooooo well with the anti-gravity :( Instead they bring back Baby Park yet again with little to no extra things added to the track expect for the visuals... :(
I'm guessing Baby Park was a fan favorite, so that's why they went with that track.

The other tracks I'm completely fine with!
Especially the GBA tracks! Duuuuude, those are looking sooo good! :D Finally some mksc love  [smiley=beer.gif]
Neo Bowser City, I was kind of hoping that they weren't going to use that track.. Why not us for example RRM or SGB for mk7 s: Or just a track from another game!
But ohwell, it looks great so I'm fine with it.
Neo Bowser City on wifi will probably be the same as in mk7; start first + survive the first 1/4 part of the track = auto win :/

The new nitro tracks look reeaallyy good! The Metro track is sooo origional imo. :)
I was suprised to see a new F-Zero track at first, but that is realy a good idea of Nintendo o:
The wood track kind of reminds me of Rayman 3. Am I the only one? haha

I'm not that hyped about 200cc.
Though what I'm wondering is how crazy fast would you go if you fire hop!  ;D  ;D
I mean, in the videos of 200cc, if you see them using a SMT of Shroom, they already go realy fast, so imagin how fast you would go if you fire hop :p
I'm glad to hear that there is no option to TT 200cc :)
If it had a seperate server, then I would be fine with it.
The way how I see 200cc is as a extra crazy funny thing to do on wifi. But I don"t see myself playing that the whole day ;)

Just like Diogo, I can't wait till the 23rd of April!!!!
That is going to be one hell of a fun evening!!!! :D

Well, I agree with Markus, but hey, I think if it'd be available as TT mode there would probably be new options to lie about times (if it isn't marked as 200cc, that is). Overall this looks better than the other DLC tbh, but let's wait and see... I am not that hyped, but that may be because I do not expect too much of it. It'd be awesome if Nintendo would finally prove me wrong...
