Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by Ruin on 01/08/15 at 23:08:10 The player's response to the hate and things of such (Drogbass, more commonly known as Wrath) http://mkboards.com/forums/threads/le-chokerino.11292/ note: these aren't my words, I'm just quoting his post "Just found out about the thread here, reddit, etc. when I got home last night so I figured I’d type up a little response. Would’ve come sooner but I haven’t logged into this site since the summer and didn’t know how many Rainbow Roads there are in MK8 so it took a while to reset my password. Not going to take the time to respond to everything but I’ll try and hit some key points: “Shito Ryu” said: You don't go for SCs if you're not 90% sure to get them. His skills are average-good, but his strategy choices are being terrible. My goal was to showcase as many tricks as possible while staying within reason. I was more than willing to throw minutes away from the run time in order to add some style. I understand that it’s a Games Done Quick marathon, however Mario Kart Wii is not a speed running game and it wouldn’t have been too exciting for the typical audience member had I sat in a chair and drove each individual track the way it’s intended to be played for 35 minutes. The main point of the event is to entertain, create interaction, and get donations for charity. It was successful in doing so even with the technical problems they had with the tracker during the run. “Silver” said: Should've practiced more before this whole thing, it is honest to God embarrassing for the MKW community, especially the Time Trial community... I don't hate Wrath at all as a person but this is the truth. With regard to my practice— I brought my Wii to college intending to give a little bit of time to practicing every now and then, however doing well in school, socializing, and pledging during the first semester barely allowed for eating or sleeping let alone practicing a children’s racing game. I came home after finals the week before Xmas and was able to get back in relative form in about a week. I also put in a ton of practice at the venue before my run and was playing fine by my standards (I was hitting high 34’s to high 37’s and getting all the glitches pretty consistently). I didn’t get the vibe that I embarrassed the community nor myself when talking to some TTers of other MK games who I hung out with for a good amount of time when I was there—I think you might be making a bit of an exaggeration. It’s evident that I didn’t do as well as I would’ve liked but you’re grasping at straws if you really believe that this had anything more than a microscopic effect on a dying community. Anyway, if I did, and for some reason someone ever says “hey remember when that guy was bad at mario kart at agdq! mkwii is such a shit game haha!” then I’m sorry for embarrassing a community most noted for immaturity, cheaters, and kids pretending to have mental disorders. “Agosta” said: Of course nerves had something to do with it…A lot of it was very amateur hour-ish. Using this as an example to get the community "known" is not a positive. I was nervous when on the drive down and when I got there but it sort of went away after getting settled into the hotel and spending some time in the practice room. As the DKR run started to end the nerves started to come back and they hit me pretty hard, which I’m sure was obvious. After I rushed the MG glitch and botched it I really shit the bed, I’m aware of that but there’s nothing I can do about it—it’s hit or miss and unfortunately I missed. As for what I put in bold, at no point was my reason for doing this ever remotely close to getting the community “known.” For me, this was an opportunity to have one last gaming experience and do something unique. If you’re still concerned with getting this community “known” at this point you’re wasting your time. This is a small niche community that consists of a majority of toxic individuals who create a poor environment. TL;DR Did I prepare? Yes Could I have prepared more? Yes Did I do as well as I would’ve liked? No If this were a few years back I would’ve taken the feedback here and been really hurt by it but instead it’s a bit comical. It makes me sad to think that I had nothing better to do than be a part of this community for so many years but I suppose you live and learn. I did this because it seemed like a cool thing to do and I had an amazing time. If anyone has anything they’d like to know feel free to ask here and I’ll get back to you before I disappear again." |

Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by KVD on 01/11/15 at 10:23:31 I will back up Alak here, the post is written as if he is replying himself and I initially interpreted it as such myself as well. Also I felt the MKWii run was pretty painful, not a good reflection of the sick skill lvls present within our MK-community at all. Sorry fo being harsh, but that's the plain truth. |

Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by リオン on 01/11/15 at 20:07:55 Don't worry about it, Alaktorn has a notorious habit of reading skype messages then completely forgetting what was said no more than 4 lines earlier in the convo. Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by ImPerfect_Clark on 01/14/15 at 06:38:50 I empathize a bit with the MKW runner, though I do think he spent too much time retrying tricks/glitches. Jonesy was smart about his MK64 run last year, defining attempt limits in advance, balancing the appeal of skill showcase vs. simply registering a fast time. I fell behind early in my Pilotwings race because a 90% risk went the wrong way. I spent the race working on catching up (which I did, for the most part), but because I was in last, Twitch chat was thrashing me -- was really disheartening to read after so much hard work and contending well in a race I never really had a chance to win (#1 Pilotwings player Graviton has a few years head start and lots of skill -- his run at AGDQ was the worst I've ever seen from him which is the reason it seemed close). The fact I created or improved tons route elements is something that the audience didn't know. I really had to swallow my pride when I agreed to this race. Lucky for me you don't see or hear that crap while you're racing. Overall it was a very cool experience :) |

Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by Jonesy on 01/14/15 at 09:17:17 Twitch chat is harsh on even the best runners, and must always be taken with a grain of salt. ZFG, arguably the best OoT runner in the world, was constantly being "hammered" by chat during his 100% run with "RESET"s and "CHOKE"s and other inane bullshit while simultaneously receiving admiration and praise from the other runners in the room (like Cosmo, RunnerGuy and the rest of the audience). Twitch chat is dominated by a combination of those using sarcastic attempts to be funny through disparagement and banal meme spew and the "I'm going to demean you to make myself seem cool" crowd who are often the same basement dwellers that can be found hurling racial epithets while playing the newest CoD and chugging 12 packs of Mountain Dew. The thing about racing other people during a marathon is that if you are last you become an easy target for the above people and must be prepared to either ignore or give no fucks about what is said in twitch chat. This is obviously easier said than done. |

Title: Re: AGDQ 2015 Thread Post by ImPerfect_Clark on 01/17/15 at 03:26:31 I suppose they weren't thrashing me too bad. I was rewatching the video to record all of our times and couldn't help but notice the twitch chat as I was doing it. I understand how the Internet works and truly don't take the comments personal... it's just annoying to be reminded of that part of human nature. Dude, wheat -- glad you're aware of some of Grav's exploits outside of Pilotwings. He has like 5 different full-game WRs for N64 games. I knew I was going to be eating humble pie when I agreed to race him. |
