Post your PR's/Best Splits here

I'll start off: Music Park 2:00.447 (idk why taking the glider is slower for me but it is)

Best Splits: 40.928, 39.178, 39.178 = 1:59.284

I take a different route in the pipe zone because I always end up offroad when I try the WR route, it's certainly costing me some time...

Do you think Slicks have potential in this track ? It looks like most of the turns at the beginning are hard to negotiate properly with them. I definitely couldn't do shit when I tried them out.

The stat change from Bowser + Slicks -> Bowser + Slim is pretty much the same as Bowser + Slim -> Rosa + Slicks. But I'm pretty sure Bowser + Slim is probably the fastest choice unless Slick can gain enough in sections 2 and 3.

I only use Rosa cause that's what I did in MKW.

rMC is only track I've time trialed much so far
Just played it again for a few hours, my best is 1:27:5xx, my best splits are 30.103/28.507/28.482 = 1:27:0xx

It's weird, I can very often get within .5-.6 of WR pace lap 1, but always drop about a second on laps 2 and 3.  I make more mistakes lap 2 but I'm surprised I've not put together a better split at least once...  There are probably loads of intricacies I'm missing, I don't know

I'm torn between playing all the tracks so I can upload to the PP or keep trying on this track where I have my best chance of a top 10.  Although I'm still not that near top 10, and it's a moving target  [smiley=cry.gif]

Exactly the same on rMMM for me, I'm being close of the WR on lap 1 (like 0.3) but I totally get outrunned on lap 2/3, for about a second each lap. Well, this game physics are a mystery to me.

Horrible, horrible run. Rammed the wall at section 1 sc. Section 2 was decent. Hit a slalom wall section 3. PR'd by managing to do the new hop strat in section 3...making this 4th WW at the time.

Do people really hate Dry Dry Desert that much? It's probably my least favorite course and so I was glad when I beat my old PR (from the June 16th... I've improved a lot since then) by about 11 seconds, getting 2:09.203. I still felt it was really slow though, because I was stuck in the sand a bit each time in the shroom spot at the end. I checked the records for it from this site and somehow my time is 24th? That's my highest ranked time so far... lol

I was not using motion controls, because I am too lazy to try to figure it out currently.

DP3 1[ch8242]16[ch8243]542 [ch8243]1xx – [ch8243]17x – [ch8243]2xx

fucking terrible, I think I hit a wall last lap or something

1[ch8242]16[ch8243]367 [ch8243]111 – [ch8243]054 – [ch8243]202 7-1-0

I was ahead of WR starting lap 3, but I forget where I had a giant fail and it turned into crap

1[ch8242]16[ch8243]323 [ch8243]1xx – [ch8243]1xx – [ch8243]05x

consistent run, but lap 2 was bad… and I think I got 0/3 mystery boosts after underwater turn, no luck

1[ch8242]16[ch8243]230 [ch8243]149 – [ch8243]968 – [ch8243]113

lap 3… I already started losing time at the hop tech after finish line, and then I lost a fuckload after the underwater turn, not sure if it was terrible or Jay’s ghost simply gets a fantastic mystery boost there

Do you have any tips for that course? Obviously I need to work on successfully doing the soft drifting thing but just in general? Might be hard without seeing a video of my best time, but eh. Anything that's really crucial to have a good time.

I went from 1:33.xxx to 1:29.1xx after buckling down a bit but still having trouble improving besides that. I think my best lap 1 is 30.5xx and then good lap2 is barely below 29 seconds, and then lap 3 maybe near 28.5.

I think I figured out one small thing to improve my time, at least. I knew that I had seen the WR do it but I didn't really think about it until I tried it out and noticed a big difference.

On the shroom spot, you need to hop and begin the drift wherever the grassy area lifts up so that you can some air time and can delay the shroom, so that you get more use out of it. Is that correct? I only did it on the 3rd lap of a run I just did and it seemed a good bit faster.

Edit: nevermind, I don't see the WR doing this >.<

Got the hang of the blue MT right before the ramp, after the shroomspot, which helps a lot.

Just got a pretty decent run based on my best times, but still not 100%. Plus I still need to somehow work in the orange MT at the end of the first two laps, but I'm terrible at it.

rMMM: 1:28.356 - 30.518 - 29.211 - 28.627

Would be #22 on the site, which is my highest so far :P Glad if I decide to focus on a track that I can at least do decently well.

Edit: I was having a really hard time getting close to my PR again, but then I got this...

1:28.412 - 30.450 - 29.292 - 28.670

I did manage to get a 30.2xx first lap one time, so I guess there's that.

Title: Re: Best Splits and PRs Thread
Post by Moocowalex on 06/27/14 at 12:06:02

I'll need to try the Pipe Frame on MKS :P

And finally! after trying for another hour or two I managed to get 1:28.2xx, and then just now 1:27.827 after I started working on improving my fire hopping, as it was a bit sloppy at times and I figured that was the source of at least a bit of slowness

1:27.827 - 30.322 / 28.946 / 28.559

Done for now :P Those are all very near my best times for each lap so I'm happy.

If anyone had any tips for rMMM I would really appreciate it, I really want to try to max out this course as much as possible.

Here's a video of me with my current PR (1:27.827): http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2nhqm9z&s=8#.U69f9PldV20

Sorry for the terrible quality, and the site... I'm currently waiting for an email to finish sending, and then I'll try uploading it to youtube and replace the link.

Whenever I try to incorporate the last orange MT at the end of laps 2 and 3, I can only sometimes get it, and even then it doesn't seem to save any time, so that's my reason for not doing it yet.

Try drifting right, before the final turn and then drift left sharp then hold it out.

I've been trying that, and it definitely helps a bit, still working on optimizing it though. Thanks anyways.

I wasn't sure if there was any spot where my line wasn't very optimal, or if the main reason for slowness is mostly just making everything more tight, and fire hopping more efficiently.

Edit: after staying up way too late, I managed to get 1:27.470, but using all my best splits I can get 1:26.9xx at least, but my lap 1 split is very hard for me to get, and I just tend to mess up a lot now that I'm being so strict with my turning. It is nice knowing a course extremely well though, after you figure out how to do stuff very consistently.

Edit 2:................................ lol I just got 1:27.469. .001 improvement [smiley=flush.gif]

rSL 01:53.865 (#21 WW)

39.364 (BS)
37.074 (BS)
37.427 (I was so nervous since I was .568 ahead. Result: playing too safely, I saw my ghost coming back mid lap 3 (so I lost nearly 6 tenths at the beginning of lap 3? o: ) so I really had to push then)

I would've normally stopped with a 1:53, but I'll continue now.

BS (basically this lap 2 = lap 3) gives 01:53.512 now.

EDIT:

Lap 2: 36.995 (BS and first sub), it was in a 01:53.896 (39.679/36.995/37.222). I was ahead my ghost but I failed the final hops...

EDIT 2:

New BS: Lap 1: 39.341

EDIT 3:

39.254 lap 1, but such terrible fire hopping that it completely screwed up my 2nd lap...

BS: 39.254 / 36.995 / 36.995 = 01:53.244

EDIT 4:

01:53.758 (#20 WW)

39.392 / 36.999 / 37.367

Lap 3 was terrible, because I almost lost the A-button (accel button with wiichuk) resulting in bad shroom and bad underwater part.

I'm brand new to this game-- as in, I probably just started playing it 10 minutes ago-- I just jumped right into Time Trial and drove a 1'47"540 on MKS. (At least it's not last place!) Donkey Kong, Mach 8, Standard tires, Super Glider. Couldn't figure out how to make the bikes wheelie. Still trying to figure out the fastest combos in this game (which I probably need to unlock) as well as the best startboost timing (I believe it's immediately after the "2"?)

I don't expect to do very well in this game, since a lot of the MK7 mechanics seem to be back.

I also need to go back and finish Super Mario 3D World-- I was just dying to give this one track a quick try. I'll probably do better if I could play it on a Game Cube controller, but there are no ports for it on the Wii U-- guess it needs a separately-sold adaptor.

EDIT: Okay, just got a 1'55"021 on WP. Wood tires here, but same Kart parts otherwise. Hey, I beat Flo  [smiley=evil.gif]

Pretty sloppy run as well. I'm still familiarizing myself with the Wii U pad.

I'm still familiarizing myself with the Wii U pad.

depending on the course

super heavy mach8/slicks/glider doesn't matter rn
super heavy pipe frame/slicks/glider
super heavy pipe frame/slims/glider
super heavy bluefalcon/slicks/glider
lots of combos but always use supr heavy except on sherbet land

1'45"350 on MKS with Bowser, Mach 8, and Slick Tires (just unlocked those). I assume Wood tires are still faster underwater, like on MK7?

Shroomspot is at the second turn-- difficult to do with a heavyweight without understeering, but should get easier with practice. I try to finish the first lap with at least 8 coins (easier said than done).

I guess the rest comes down to improving the driving technique.

EDIT: 1'44"861

Broke the 1'45" barrier but scraped against a wall during the second shroomslide. I'm still working on this. I'm also still trying to get the hang of the startboost timing. Note that this is still Day One for me... a complete timeset is still up to a month away, since I'm juggling other Wii U games.

EDIT: 1'44"619
I see I beat a couple of legendary MK64 players here.  [smiley=lolk.gif]

best combo for that track is super heavy/mach8/slicks
the only track that you change combo for underwater is dolphin shoals, the combo is super heavy badwagon offroad tires

I don't have a character called Super Heavy, never heard of him, I presume you might be simply referring to the heaviest weight class? In that case Bowser ought to be as heavy as they come.  :D

Now I just need to study all of the basic time-saving techniques and fastest routes through courses, coin collecting strats, etc.

It's great that this game already starts you off with the best stuff (except maybe that "Badwagon" you mentioned). No having to collect thousands of coins to get that B Dasher like in MK7. I still have to unlock all of the tracks for time trialing, but that should be cake (just win all the cups in GP?)

super heavy as in the weight class, bowser, wario, morton, and heavy mii are considered super heavy, they have the highest speed stat

It looks like nobody reports PRs in this thread now, since most people, I would assume, use the submission thread to go ahead and submit them. But I'm still in the process of building my timeset. I started the game again for the first time in 2015 (see three posts above) and spent tonight beating all the GPs (non-DLC cups) to unlock the courses for TT. I just did it in 50cc for now, I still want to do 100cc and 150cc (and I'll assume there's a Mirror/Extra class too) so I can say I've "completed" this game.

Then I dabbled in TT and got these times on the first two Retro tracks:

RMMM 1'35"889
RMC 1'34"807

Pretty sure there are some simple timesavers I don't know about in this game much like MK7, but I have not watched any videos yet. I want to get the basics of the course layouts and Kart handling first. I was going to see if I could get an adapter so I could use the GCN controller, but I do just fine with the Wii U pad.

dBB - 1:27.550
I think I'm 20th in the world atm. Probably won't get any better than that.
