Title: MK PP Issues
Post by Brett on 06/25/11 at 21:09:54

Hey guys I am having trouble accessing the PP on my normal computer. Basically anything that starts with the URL mariokart64.com will not load for me but every other website loads fine. I also am able to access it on either my blackberry or using some proxy to hide my IP address, which leads me to believe that I am banned for some reason.

Can someone please come up with any ideas on how to solve this? I tried speaking with a few people but I haven't been able to solve anything.

Also before anyone asks I typed this on my phone so please excuse any possible typos.

Try replacing mariokart64.com with mariokartplayers.com in the URL (you can do this for any page).

It's definitely a client issue as no one else seems to be having the problem.

Brett, if you could check your ip from your normal computer, I can check to see if it's on the banned list.
The easiest way to check it would be to go to http://www.whatismyip.com/

Ok Lacey I will pm you my IP address and see if this gets us anywhere.

Another possibility is a DNS problem: the control computers associated with your ISP may be having trouble translating 'mariokart64.com' into a numerical address. If this is the case, it's probably temporary.

Penev, not to be a thorn in your side but can you give me some estimate on temporary? Its been like 2 - 3 days and still nothing. I don't know what it could possibly be but if you have any other ideas I would love to hear them.

Try a different DNS provider to see if that's the issue, here are a couple choices:

Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Open DNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

You say the siteS "will not load"...what screen do you see when it doesn't?

Brett, do you see anything when you access the site http://75.126.69.34 ?

If you can see a webpage (fairly minimal, but not an error) then you have a DNS problem.
If you can't load the numbers either, it's something else. Perhaps the domain has been blocked by your ISP  ;D

Well unfortunately that didn't work either, I still get an error screen. I can't actually post a picture on my BlackBerry so here's NMeade with my pic.

Brett, what's your other computer's IP address? You can PM me privately if you wish.

Wait, what kind of error screen did you get? It's going to look like an error with that link anyway (a page with the IdleServ logo). Try http://75.126.69.34/test and see if you get a green 404 screen or the same "timed out" message.

I still get the same timed out message.

I'll pm you Penev.

Brett, we do have some IP ranges banned but none of them cover the IP you sent me in your message.

Try the following: Start -> Run -> "cmd" -> "tracert 75.126.69.34"
Give it a few dozen seconds to run. I assume it will freeze somewhere and time-out. Paste me what you get.

Sorry but I can't find out how to get there. I clicked start but couldn't find run. I figured you meant all programs but still couldn't find command so idk what to do.

I'm practically computer illiterate.

it's not in all programs… at least in XP it's in the right table, the bottom icon

If you're not in XP (vista/7), it's just a matter of typing "cmd" into that little box right above Start.

Can you access things now?

Holy shit it worked!

Thanks Penev!

BTW what exactly did you do to fix it/what was my problem? I just want to know in case of the off chance that I have the same issue in the future. Thanks again!

I didn't do anything special. Apart from our own blocked IPs, the server firewall subscribes to blacklist providers who monitor naughty IP ranges and you just happened to be in a bad one. The admins took a look and did something. Your IP range varies a lot, so it may not be a permanent fix. See how you go.

Hey Alex, Clark is now also having what seems to be this exact same issue:

His IP is: 188.222.245.226

That's not Clark's usual IP. Has he perhaps changed provider recently? I hope it's a static one.

I've asked support to check the firewall blacklist. Wait a couple of days for a response.

It seems to be working ok now. Cheers for looking into it though Penev. Havent changed provider in the last year or so, unless its something at their end.

Bumping this because someone else that uses the forum to submit times has a problem that is very similar to the one Brett is mentioning here (can't join mariokart64.com and only mariokart64.com from any browser or device through wifi). I assume this is another issue with an ISP provider, but a check with shadow tells us that he is not banned... Alex, can you check this out again please?

^ follow up to above: no idea what happened but the site seems to be working for me again.

I did send a ticket to my ISP, but they haven't responded so I don't know if it was them or what.
