I'd be up for it. I think it would have to be short though in terms of length I'm guessing, maybe get 8 active players to do it for two teams of four. MKSC has a lot of glitchy stuff though so it shouldn't be hard to think of challenges.

I'm #96, Int E if you want to know for seeding the teams.

They don't have to be 8 weeks. I just did 8 weeks because I wanted to do one per course, but most run 4 weeks (MK64 did, MKDD did, MKDS not really sure). Idk if MKW will even last for 8 weeks, but do whatever you feel like you can pull off. I'm excited for this since I'm inspired to play MKSC again.

Possible Team Combo 1 (AF based):

Team 1 is Mick, Christophe and Web = 154
Team 2 is flo233, robman60, and Chris = 134 and with a ZZMT player
Team 3 is NStride, V|K, and humpy = 126 with no ZZMTers.

Possible Team Combo 2 (Seed based):

Team 1 is (1, 6, 7): Mick, Christophe and humpy
Team 2 is (2, 5, 8): flo233, V|K, and Web
Team 3 is (3, 4, 9): NStride, robman60, Chris

Which Team Combo seems fairest to you guys?

Also, how does a 6 week competition sound?

I've also decided what I think would be a good way to pick challenges. Each player gets to think up and send via PM to me whatever challenge he wants. I toss the numbers 1-9 in a hat, and the three numbers I pick are the challenges for the week. Sound good?

Finally, when do you all want to start?

But i guess that ban ZZMT is more fair.
I have a non-ZZMT GBA so it's not a problem.

On the 23rd, the player's final rankings and seeds are set in stone. From that day till the 26th, the thread will be open for voting on what the fairest team combination will be, and the competitors should each send me a PM for what they want the first three challenges to be. The 27th and 28th are days for team organization, i.e. getting skype contacts for strat discussion/tips, and maybe even team names.

On the 1st, all hell breaks loo... I mean, the competition officially starts.  [smiley=ninja.gif]

Sound good to everyone, or am I overkilling on the planning? ;D

@Andy: Well, I had some sessions the last time and that's it for now. I will buy a new GBA maybe next month... I don't really HAVE to play MKSC, it's fun as soon as you find out how to control and stuff (the feeling for it) but it's not the same as SMK :( (crashed my timeset: 80/80 new PRs)

Okay, the options are up.

The first option is strictly seed based.

The second option is AF based. The teams would be:

Mick, NStride, Web. = 123 AF total. (115.4 = group AF average/ 354 points overall), (Will likely do well in 2 events of the week, kind of a wild card team depending on how much Web plays.)

vs. Flo, V|K, humpy. = 104 AF total (Above the average, however, Flo will not be allowed to ZZMT, so it might not be unbalanced at all.)

vs. Robman, Zwiebel, Christophe. = 119 (AKA the mighty average team. Nothing special here; not likely to pull off 2 first places a week, not likely to get less than 1 first place finish a week. And even if they do, they won't have a weak link in the chain.)

This poll will be up until the end of February 28th (EST). Votes after that will be considered final, and the teams will be official.

Please send in your challenges now. You ARE allowed to skype/xat/AIM/YouTube/whatever with anyone in this competition.

I choose "Seed based" because "AF based" looks unbalanced to me. Having 2 of the 3 best players in my team makes it strong, even more when you say Andy is better than what his current rank suggests, and has the advantage of being the host of the comp (and thus making the challenges to his taste and knowing in advance many of them)

Mario Circuit 1 Sami's style

Character : DK
Drive 5 laps on RMC1 like you would do on Super Mario Kart non-NBT. Mini-turbos or shrooms are not allowed, but you may still use jumps and drifts. Pipe jumps are optional ::)

2:

Sunset Wilds Zipper Fever

Character : Any

Do a fast lap in which you hit EVERY zipper on Sunset Wilds. All techniques/shrooms/whatever is allowed.

3:

Ghostbusters

Character: Any

Drive three laps on Broken Pier, but clear all the ghosts except one. (IGNORE the ghost in the middle by the plank island; he's a bit hard to reach.) No lap skips/etc.

I guess he meant "plank bridge" as there aren't any ghost near the little island where you go on the flap, so I think it's indeed the very first ghost. Though I think all ghosts should be cleared, as none of them is stupidly hard...

Yes, there is one by the little island. If you don't believe me, go past it and turn around to look, or shroom and fall off the course just to the left of it. There is one there, lol.

Great week 1 guys! Lots of activity, and some good times turned in. The competition was tight on MC1, but in the end, Brett's 1'59"45 owned all efforts. He is way out in front of the competition at the moment.

On SW, the competition was more spaced out. Not much else to say here, except the winner claims his run was all skill lucky.

Finally, we come to the BP competition. Mick submitted his time once, and in the end completely dominated. This competition in the end was what gave what I'm calling Team Mick for now the lead, congratulations!

800 is the minimal number of points you can get with a time submission (an incentive for people to a least post a PR even if it's bad). Without this rule the other number would have been your score following the math formula.

I was trying to think how this could possibly work, but what do you guys think of this idea?

Lap 1, you must comply with the conditions of the challenge, but the lap must be as close to 1'59"94 as possible. Every hundredth of a second off that lap 1 total is a triple penalty added on to the total time at the end. (i.e., do a run in 180 seconds, lap 1 was 1'57"94. Your score equals 180 seconds + (3 * 2 seconds off) = 186 seconds).

Week two challenges:

1) Egg Hatcher

Track : Lakeside Park
Character : Yoshi

Goal : Clear a fast lap hitting on the way all the 3 eggs that lay on the track.

Requirements:
- The challenge must be done on lap 1.
- You cannot use the jump button (R) at all during the run.
- In addition, you cannot take the SC near the end involving the bumper bording the water. You must go straight instead and use the intented road. (No jumping over walls whatsoever.)

2) KB1 CPU Route

Track: RKB1
Character: Any

Goal: Clear 5 laps around Retro Koopa Beach 1.

Requirements:
- You are not allowed to so much as touch the deep (dark blue) water. Any skip or bump whatsoever in a completed time will result in disqualification.

3) Hop Road

Track: Rainbow Road
Character: Toad

Goal: Clear 3 laps around Rainbow Road

Requirements:
- Bounce on the white launchers that surrounds the road at least 100 times by the end of the 3 laps.
- You are not allowed to hit a launcher while shrooming. (Sorry Hirano-strat wannabes)
- Jumping off the normal ramps counts as a "hit"

PS: Clarifications. Abide by site non-SC rules in the competition. No lap skips, no ticking, and no other non-SC routes are allowed.

Your submissions for these challenges will be due on a week from now, Thursday March 17th, at 11:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.
