Title: MKDS (not MK3DS) on the 3DS
Post by Snivy on 01/22/11 at 20:20:23

Do you think that this could be a good idea? I will probably avoid playing the DS game on the 3DS in case of the R button and D-pad. I'll try it out once or twice though. Unlikely that I'll continue to play MKDS on this system though. DS Lite for that game specifically.  [smiley=smokin.gif]

I would be interested to try mt'ing with the analog stick to see how much it could work well... but yeah I would sick to my good old DS to play that game (and likely all my DS games for that matter) if I don't get nice results.

oh my god you brought up something really bad there… I certainly hope DS games won't have compatibility with the analogue stick

I don't see why it wouldn't. You can play GBC/GBA games on the GameCube (with the Game Boy Player) and the stick works. Same for (all ?) VC games on the Wii. I play with the analog stick on SMK for instance. ;D
As for the analog stick improving the gameplay... I doubt it would help faster mt'ing or better handling. You don't need precise steering unlike sometimes in MKWii.

seriously? that sucks

Analog or dpad doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't facilitate performing techniques such as ZZMT in MKSC.

I think mting could be slightly easier with analog...we'll see 8-)

I'm thinking Super Mario 64 DS would be a completely different game with analog… which is just wrong

I would actually start playing that game if it's possible with the analog. The d-pad just sucks for games like those.

I agree, but I don't like the fact that in any game which is improvable by analogue stick, all the players who've competed on the original version are disadvantaged

from a simple playing point of view it's good, but I'm more on the competition side

SM64 for N64 works with analog.

Is the DS version wrong, not the opposite

If MKDS works with the Analogue, then people will be finding ways to claw the analogue for wtf MTs :-/

It works with the analog stick.

I can't imagine it being easier though, but I could be wrong.

I just tried it, it works really well. Probably the best Dpad I've seen. Doesn't feel as sturdy as the DS phat, but since it's smaller it might be faster to press left and right. It's not all mushy like the DSlite so it shouldn't break as easy.

The analoge stick felt like I was going to snap it off... It was a pretty slow race because I was scared of killing it the day I bought it, but if you weren't worried about wrecking it I'd say it's a pretty good system to play MKDS on.

I tried with the analog stick, and snaking was really difficult since DS games can't recognize the 360 degree movement. The d-pad is in a really awkward place so I didn't try it, but it feels a lot like the DS phat's d-pad.

Oh ok then... That's great. That will probably make me buy it sooner than what was planned. :D

The R button doesn't feel as robust though, i can imagine you'll break those regularly.

I find the dpad to low for mt'ing comfortably.

Flo, I wouldn't recommend playing MKDS on the 3DS, not only for the awkward controls, but also because the 3DS doesn't seem as robust as a Phat. I don't recommend breaking stuff worth €259.

3DS is not really worth 259 €, it sells for ~ 220.

Yeah I know, I thought it was the same in Europe though... it costs €259 here, greedy italian shops. [smiley=dead.gif]

Nobody else get a reduced preorder price? I got mine for roughly £187 due to preordering at amazon  :-X

Yeah I see, I guess you're right.
