Title: Elite/Kart WW/Mafia game - GAME OVER Post by Goose on 11/13/10 at 15:01:23 EPIC BATTLE TIME After the first elite game was so successful, we are running a 2nd game at the elite. HOWEVER, since Yuku sucks as a board, we will probably run the game on Scott's board in which the Donkey Kong game was run. The board is located here: http://scott.thengamer.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl rshepherd is modding the game. He plays a lot on 2+2 which is about as high caliber as WW games get on the internet. He's experienced and sure to run a good game. If we play on Scott's board we will want; -you to register with your current username, or something close to it -avatars to be used I think it would be really cool if we got 10+ eliters and 10+ karters. I know you guys haven't played in a really long time and you'd all like to so sign up here. If we get over 20 players, shep is going to run a Vanilla+ game (so like town gets a seer and an angel, mafia gets a roleblocker, or something like this.) The large part of the fun is making friends/enemies through these games and learning to read people based off their personalities. When you have an anonymous game, it takes all the fun out of it. Scott's board is meh, but it's a perfect neutral setting for elite/kart. It's actually a very well formatted board for the game and in these interesting circumstances, why not? Are you in Cooper? :) |

Still, the mafia shouldn't just be sitting on their ass during the day so even if they can't all get online during a 12 hour window they should still be able to work out their night actions. |

The mafia need to discuss shit, if you have twelve hours its quite conceivable that you might get one person in the EU giving their feelings/input then the US guys who come in after having to make a decision of one post rather than any reply. The elite guys spend most of their lives online, there were 8 pages of waffle when I first signed in to the game (within about 8 hours?). I think its reasonable to read the forum twice a day and still play mafia. I expect 12 hour nights from the noobs. |

Another game I am co-modding on 2p2 (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/59/puzzles-other-games/) where I usually play is being paused on the 25th as well since it seems a lot of people are spending time with family etc that day. To comment on a couple of other things: The wolf team will have 24 hour communication with each other during the Day cycle of the game therefore everyone will have plenty of time to discuss strategy, even if it is not always done during the night hours. And really 12 hours is more than sufficient with basic coordination to find a window when everyone can discuss together during night. I'm well aware that number of kills per night needs to increase as the player base does to prevent an infinite game. With the current numbers this game will have a neutral serial killer. Thats 3 deaths per day so long as he is alive and unblocked. If we get several more signed by the end of tomorrow then I will add further killing roles. However I don't want to overload it because it increases variance and the game can consequently become unenjoyable for the team on the receiving end of bad luck. |

At the same time though part of being a good player is to understand how the other players in the game are likely to receive your posts. That game had many players playing for the first time who were easily confused by things that more experienced players know to ignore. It is particularly important early on in games to give the other players a reason to want to keep you around. Or at the very least don't give them a reason to want to get rid of you. Also had you been able to return to the thread and post before EOD (as you indicated you would in one of the two posts you made) you may have avoided being lynched. |
